  3. Me, I prefer Chinese buffets. Love the food and the spices. And with the Buffet, you get to try everything that looks good. Instead of trying things one at a time.
  4. Installing Vista SP1 Ok here is what you need to do. 1. Clean out your temp files in the temp folder. 2. Clean out your temporary internet files and cookies. 3. Defrag the hard drive. 4. Turn off your anti virus and firewall before downloading the service pack and installing it. 5. During the install you will be asked if you want to archive the files, do so. The archived file scan be deleted later if the service pack works. Having the archived files, will allow you to uninstall the service pack if you have any problems. 6. After the pc reboots, reboot a couple more times. This insures that wh

  8. Well now to SP1 for Vista. SP1 will be available through Microsoft Windows Update this spring. Windows Update automatic updates would normally automatically update your machine each night for several days with the prerequisites and then offer the Service Pack. It will be done in four steps. Prier to the SP1 download, everyone will get three required updates to prepare for SP1. you will have to install all pending “Important†updates and reboot. You may have to do this several times to get fully up to date. The first update will be KB935509, This is the first pre-requisite install and w
  9. Vista's System Recovery Console First, Boot from your Vista installation CD. Select your Vista Install from the list in Windows Boot Manager · Microsoft Vista Setup (x86) · Microsoft Vista Setup (x64) Press enter. You will then see Windows is Loading Files. Next, the Language Screen will come up. Since you have already selected this option when you installed Vista, just click on Next. Now you will see the Vista Installation Screen. DO NOT CHOOSE Install Now Instead, towards the bottom left of the window you will see. · What to know before installing Windows · R

  11. The nice thing is being able to save the SP3 update and applying it to later re-installs. When I'm doing tests. After installing XP with SP2. There are up to 100 downloads from M$ just for the recommended security updates. That's not counting the updates that are options. Everything is included in SP3. So you are ready to go without hours downloading the updates. (many hours on dial-up). And if your installing from an older XP disk with no SPs or SP1. That could take forever to get things up to par.
  12. Windows XP has the same setup. If you op to join the improvement program. M$ will monitor your usage using XP. Most people op not to join during setup on either OS when installing. This is showing others where to check and turn it off in Vista if they want to. It is not turned on by default, you have the option to set it during install. If you choose to join the improvment program, your usage and surfing habits will be sent. No vital information will ever be included.
  13. Tips for upgrading to SP3. I would suggest a few things for upgrading to SP3 would be to clean up your system good. Start by cleaning out your browsers history and cookies. Then run your "Disk Cleanup" utility program. Then finish off with disk defragment. Getting everything cleaned up and in order. I never had any problems with leaving my protections running (virus program, firewall) while doing this upgrade. But disabling them to guarantee a good problem free install might not be a bad idea. Just make sure to disconnect from the internet while the upgrade is in process. Reboot a couple of
  14. I have the pleasure of being chosen as a beta tester for both XP SP3 and Vista's SP1. In this post I will give my findings on the latest service pack for XP. To start with. There really are a few items added from Windows Vista, and contains a number of useful features for businesses and consumers. SP3 includes four new features among the 1,000-plus individual hot fixes and patches that have been issued since XP2's debut three years ago. The new stuff isn't particularly noteworthy, and the rest has been available already through Windows Update. SP3 functions mostly as a collection of past fix
  15. What an turn of events. I wonder how many post I have went through that might have the same problem. I'll keep this in mind for future issues. Thanks for letting us know your fix to this.

    Beautiful Outside

It's was gone by noon. But it sure was nice to see the first real one. Everything looking fresh and clean. Been into the mid 30s at night, into the 40s to 50s during the day. Nothing like a nice wood fire to take away the chill on a cold winter night.
  18. Hi Jared. MoNsTeReNeRgY22 asked me to add my services to your problem. From what I have seen so far and some of your replies. I would think you might have a faulty hardware driver. One that either became corrupt because of the spyware (trojan) problem, or a good old M$ update. Since your Device Manager showed no problems. I believe it's still working, but not like it's supposed to. And the error you received from Vista's System Service Checks and Hardware Device and Driver Checks both failed on what appears to be a "plug and play device". Now where to tell you to start....... I would suggest s
  19. Found this out. It's a complicated set of instructions. How Windows Starts Up Seems like the error could be coming from the boot loader. The following clipping is from the above link. It can be corrected, but one would have to read the instructions close and have some knowledge to what it pertains. So, now that we have an understanding of what is contained within the structures on the disk, let’s look at the sequence of events that occur. Remember, this is just after POST has successfully completed. 1. The motherboard ROM BIOS attempts to access the first boot device specified in the
  20. Try using your Vista CD and Do a "System Restore" to a time before you started having this problem. Can you boot into safe mode, or are you just getting past the BIOs screen. I have been running through the TechNet and MSDN site, along with the web looking for this problem. So far there are people having this problem. I'm running through all the different fixes I have come across. There are not many. And reinstalling is the last option. M$ really doesn't have much covering this. Seems a strange glitch. but mostly adding XP after Vista in a dual boot setup. But there are a couple with the same
  21. Did you first try to run the Repair option on the disk, letting it run automatically. Do you have Vista installed somewhere besides Drive C (dual boot).
  22. Looking out my window... The reds, orange's and browns of Fall. Slowly getting covered with a fresh falling of pure white SNOW. Had about an inch last week, but it was gone early before the sun warmed things up. But this looks like it could linger. Supposed to keep snowing all night. But the only thing I have left to do for the winter is have the snow tires put on my outfits. Have more then enough wood to last the winter, have all the storm windows up. 95% of the summer toys put away. Snowblower ready to go, shovels all waxed up......Coats, boots, gloves.... All set. Been real busy here the l

  24. That's right. Microsoft might be monitoring your surfing habits. To see if you agreed to the "Customer Experience Improvement Option". Also, some programs and features can ask if you want to join this feature and you might have chosen OK. If you want to turn it off, or be sure it is off. Here's How. Go to your Start Menu>All Programs>Maintenance Folder>Problem Reports and Solutions. Under "See Also" go to "Customer Experience Improvement Settings". If you agreed not being sure what this was, You can turn it off from here.
  25. No, I don't think we are seeing the end of WGA. It has to do with the browser wars going on. I think I read about it on Digg. M$ wan't to up the anty because all other browsers are free and easy to get. Also with some of the new security features to help keep people safer. But the first part in more the reason. Making M$ products #1.
