  1. You can still do it. A second or third partition used as a backup in-case of melware or a virus, or just messing with something you shouldn't have. Can make your PC useless There can be allot of things that can mess with your current system, but not affect your hard drive. And most problems will effect just the main partition. Allot of people store backups, downloaded programs (so they don't have to find and redownload that favorite one). storing the latest drivers. Anything you would need to bring their system partition back to what they need.
  2. No, It's not that hard. Not to easy either. Vista makes this job real easy, But for XP, just read everything and take your time. Here is how to Create A Partition Or Logical Drive Using the Windows interface Creating a Partition Usually adding a second Hard drive is a better way to go. That way if your main Hard Drive dies completely. You have everything storied an a separate drive. You don't need a monster drive to use as a backup. Just one big enough to store what you'd need. Maybe a little bit more. I use a 120Gig drive to back everything up on. Including a Ghost Copy of my complete system.

    Rememberence

I remember those times. Nothing ever got tossed unless it was so far gone there wasn't nothing left. I think That those were in some ways, far better then now days. You knew what you had, it might not have been allot. But it was well cared for. How does the song go.... Those were the days my friend, we thought they'd never end. We'd sing and dance fore ever and a day.
  4. I would say sometime before June 30th. As what I have read. The Beta release of the SP will quit working. Well maybe not quit but somehow the will become redundant. So you will have to remove them. And in the past there have been a couple of months leeway from the final and beta to get this done.
  5. Sound like the melware is corrupting a path. How were you making the short cut? You say a desktop icon for IE works OK. Did you drag and drop the icon into the start menu. Or are you creating a path to it. using the "Shortcut" command in the desktop r-click menu.
  6. HAPPY BIRTHDAY SHANENIN!!
  7. Your right Marty... Let's swing this back to the our favorite subject. Getting e-mails that have been forwarded by 10.000 people, having to open 40 or so links just to see the "Hurry now and you can get in on this once and a life time offer" (PS. I use Pay Pal if you do want to send me $10.00)
  8. O MY GOD!!! THE SKY IS FALLING???
  9. Right now it's still a Beta release. It is the latest Windows XP Service Pack 3 Release Candidate. It's almost ready to be release to the public. (as soon as they figure out why it turns everyones Task Bar a god awful yellow-green) If you want to give it a try you can get it from M$ download. XP SP3 RC1 Just remember tho. You will have to uninstall this beta release, and reinstall the final product after it is released to everyone.
  10. Just a word to everyone. In the past, when downloading a service pack even from Windows Update (WU). You would download the complete package before installation would commence. For the newest service packs, you will notice that they will seem to take forever to download. No the servers are not being over run. Now when you download a service pack through WU. Part of the service packs will start to install itself while it is downloading. You will still get the message asking for permission to install when it's complete. But especially with Vista, the service pack is so large that it takes quite
  11. Or they'll just start calling you Calvin Liz LOL... Might be better then what some call me now... Especially when we get a bunch of snow, and I'm out with my snowblower and they have shovels.
  12. As "Blinky the Clown" would say..... (oooops, showing my age) Happy Birfh Day To You (toot toot) Happy Birfh Day To You (toot toot) Happy Birfh Day to Echobay Happy Birfh Day To You (toot toot)
  13. That gives me some ideas, I'll have to make a couple of them and see what the neighbors think. Maybe they'll keep their distance.
  14. Does the program you used have, and did you choose to make a bootable disk?
  15. How does a phone sound/act when connected to the same line that's run to the PC?
  16. Open up IE. On the top tool bar and click on "Tools". Choose "Manage Add-ons" > "Enable or Disable Add-ons". Choose "Add-ons currently Loaded in IE". Go through the list and disable one at a time, restart IE until the problem stops. (you can re-enable each one after each test). When you find the problem add-on, you might be able to reinstall the program associated with the said add-on. Seems the melware has messed with a registry file associated with a program that uses add-ons with IE.
  17. For those of you who have not heard. At first M$ was keeping "Refresh" to just us testers. But as of Friday they are letting the public try it. NOTE: You must un-install the previous SP before you download the newest one. It takes a good hour to remove the old one. And a real good hour to install the newest one. (does that for any of the betas) And any of the Betas will work only untill June 30th. After that they will default and you will have to remove them.
  18. In my non-SP1 copy of Vista Business, the 3D Business and Gaming Graphics Performance is already tested, so it isn't a new feature. I am looking forward to using SP1, although my laptop is running swimmingly with Vista freshly installed. Could it make a good thing better? Mmmm. Now I know it wasn't in Ultimate.... Was it... No.. I'm sure it wasn't.... No. I don't remember it. I'll have to check the next time I do the next Beta. No. I upgraded some drivers and did the refreash for my system score. before installing the latest Beta.... Hopefully it won't be to much longer. The latest releas
  19. I have been testing Vista "SP1 RC1 Refresh" now for a couple of days. (Newest release for us testers). SP1 is getting close to becoming ready. This install now configures M$ mail, IE and your desktop. (small window in upper right corner.... You 'll remember them). Has all the normal pre-install windows. (the "read this and do you agree type") I like this install of SP. I can't really say why... But things seem..... better, smoother.... But I have found a couple of new added things not on previous builds. This one is for Ultimate. "Secure Online Key Backup" Saves your activation key and passwo
  20. If your computer reads it OK. Then just use something like Nero, there are other products that may work. OR.... If you know somebody that has a Vista CD. Just make a copy of theirs. Vista loads the OS by the product key. If you have a CD Key for Premium, it will just load Premium. If it's for a 64bit. It will load the 64bit OS.
  21. To Be 6 Again.. A man was sitting on the edge of the bed, observing his wife, looking at herself in the mirror. Since her birthday was not far off he asked what she'd like to have for her Birthday. "I'd like to be six again", she replied, still looking in the mirror. On the morning of her Birthday, he arose early, made her a nice big bowl of Lucky Charms, and then took her to Six Flags theme park. What a day! He put her on every ride in the park; the Death Slide, the Wall of Fear, the Screaming Monster Roller Coaster, everything there was. Five hours later they staggered out of the theme
  22. Grrr. Not sure if I like the "solution" of printing one side of a booklet in one language, and if you flip the thing over it's done in another language. I guess it's the easiest to deal with considering the other options. Sure beats those map-like mega-folded things where you can't figure out if you've seen the entire manual or not because there's print EVERYWHERE. Another bother: TEENSY PRINT. OK, if you just bought a microscope , I guess it's ok. Don't remember what I bought but I tried to read the manual and I just gave up, "Yeah, RIGHT! Whatever!" On "hidden" features: I hate when this-
  23. ROFL... Now back to my "Nothing Box"
  24. Have you noticed you system clock loosing time. It may be a sign the battery on your motherboard is almost spent. It sounds like the BIOS is resetting itself and not holding the startup info it needs each time. Thus defaulting back each time you start up your computer.
