They are not needed, but if you are having problems you can use them. They may help.

the snow cover really varied in Minnesota. We got just under 12 inches where we live, just shy of a record.

You should have a one of the HJT experts look at your log. This link will tell you the correct way to post a log in the following section of this forum BestTechie Forums > Malware Removal and HijackThis Logs > Malware Removal - HijackThis Logs

a little :-) I tell myself here in Minnesota we appreciate the few moderate days we get each year. If eveyday was good I would not even notice.

After reading this post, I decided to try the program aspicheck. It said it is not installed. I am able to burn and do everything I need to do with my dvd burner. Is this even necessary ?

I am here in Rochester, southern Minnesota, and winter has shown its self today. I am not sure on official amounts, my eyeball says we have over 6 inches going on 8 of snow. Yuck. edit added later// I think predictions are 4-6 inches, but it sure seems like more

did you double click on the entry? If you do it may give you more specific information.

does it give any specific information?

You could check the Event Viewer. That can be found by right-clicking "My Computer" and selecting Manage. Then click Event Viewer, go through each log there should be three: Application, Security, and System. Look through and see if there are any red x (error) reports that occurred around the same time as IE closing. (part of this info above borrowed from Besttechie)

your welcome. I read bootlogger as bootloader(the first time). Is bootlogger an all purpose bootloader?
-
if you have a windows cd, it would be easiest to use that. run the recovery console and use the command fixmbr. If you do not have a windows cd, you will have to reinstall linux and get its bootloader to work.

Graphics Card Disappeared?
shanenin replied to modernrocko's topic in Windows 10, 8, 7, Vista, and XP
maybe it is just software. Can you get as far as the bios when using the card? -
Graphics Card Disappeared?

One way to determine if windows is the problem would be to boot your system with a live verison of linux(runs from a cd). If your system runs fine while using linux, you could then determine that the problem is software related. My hunch is the card is fried. -

Ok----need Advice On Setting Up New Computer
shanenin replied to tman70's topic in Windows 10, 8, 7, Vista, and XP
What makes you think it needs to be activated? More then likely it has already been activated. If it was not activated it would be warning you by balloons that would be poping up from the system tray. -
since unchecking "automatic restart", has your computer rebooted? as to the minidump directory, i think you need to enable viewing of hidden files and folders

if you have lots of data, it would be easiest to slave the win98 hardrive to the new xp machine -
Thanks for your help :-) This could come in very handy. So long as I am able to google the stop code, which is 0x+bugcheckcode, I can at least make some more accurate guesses when working on peoples computers. If nothing else it looks to my customers like I know something :-) by the way, my laptop dumped once about 4 months ago. I now have an idea why http://support.microsoft.com/kb/293078

You may already have a dumpfile with significant information to why your computer crashed. Check to see if you have this directory(folder) c:\windows\minidump if you do, you have a dump file located in it. This can be analyzed with the dumpchk utility.
-
Does the stop code always equal (0x + BugCheckCode) <------concatenate ? From what I remember about this laptop, it was running XP with an ntfs file system. edit added later// --->or an ntfs problem

thanks for the link. I skimmed it the first time(earier today), but now I actually read it(skimmed it better). These seem to de the most significant areas BugCheckCode 00000023 BugCheckParameter1 000e0100 BugCheckParameter2 f898395c BugCheckParameter3 f898365c BugCheckParameter4 eb8fb45d by the way, this dump file is from a laptop that I worked on several months ago edit added later// when I google those codes above I am not getting any results.

I would like to be able to be able to google the stop code when a system blue screens. It may point me in the correct direction to diagnosing a computer problem. I have output from using the dumpchk command on a mini dump file. I am pretty lost. what part of this output conains the stop code that is displayed during a blue screen. Any help would be appreciated C:\Program Files\Support Tools>dumpchk.exe "c:\Documents and Settings\shane\Desk top\Mini082404-01.dmp" Loading dump file c:\Documents and Settings\shane\Desktop\Mini082404-01.dmp ----- 32 bit Kernel Mini Dump Analysis DUMP_HEADER32
