  1. Nope, can't get anywhere with it. It acts as if the system is in standby mode, with the power light the dim yellowish-orange color. The screen is black, though, and it doesn't say "NO SIGNAL" so maybe that's promising. Is there some sort of system hardware diagnostic tool I could use to scan and see what's wrong? Or is it not that simple? EDIT: It's my old computer, so I've had it too long for the warranty to still apply. Sadface.
  2. I'm almost hoping that's all it is. I mean, it would suck to have to pay ~$200 for a new card, but that would be much better than finding out something more serious is wrong. :\
  3. So I'm not exactly sure what happened. I have a GeForce 6600 graphics card (AGP) and recently it just stopped working. There wasn't an actual error message or anything that appeared, so I'm confused. Here's what happened: I had to do a hard reset on my system because it had frozen and wouldn't respond to anything (this has happened a few times in the past, and normally a hard reset would fix it-- it's been happening on and off since about two months after I purchased my tower), and after the reboot, my tower was booting as normal, but my monitor was acting like it was in stand-by. I tried
  4. so, I'm planning on purchasing a laptop within the next few months, but before doing so I wanted to "shop around," so to speak, to see if anyone happened to know what systems to avoid, and what to look for. I know a fair bit about desktops, but as far as laptops go, I know practically nothing useful at all. I would like to use the system for some gaming as well as regular CPU use for college (taking notes, standard stuff any ol' laptop could do). so I suppose one of the main things I'm worried about is whether or not what I purchase will be able to play games at a decent quality and with lit
  5. ahh, there we go. thanks a lot for the help, and for the quick reply. I really appreciate it
  6. Internet Explorer 6.0, if you need the entire version number, it's 6.0.2900.2180.xpsp_sp2_gdr.050301-1519
  7. wow, thanks for the speedy reply! if it's best that I leave it disabled, is there any way I can enable it for certain sites that I trust?
  8. I'm awful at explaining things, but here goes. you know how when you're browsing a site, if there are images, generally you can hover your mouse over the image and it will (occasionally) show you a little description of the image in a little pop-up balloon? well, that doesn't work for me, and I have no idea why. it hasn't worked for a long time, but I can't remember if it worked at any time that I've had my computer or not. I've gone through the standard options and advanced options in IE and can't seem to find anything, though I might just be completely blind, as I assume this is a fairly
