I just bought a new seagate 7200.10 sata drive. It uses perpendicular technology, and is supposed to benchmark as fast as the 10000 rpm raptors. None the less I am reinstalling windows. After that is finished, I can try what you suggested.

I left out one important piece of information. I use an identical line with a different windows share and it works just fine as regular user here are both lines from my fstab. one works and one does not. That is why this seems so odd //marsala/n1 /home/shane/samba smbfs noauto,credentials=/etc/credentials,users 0 0 //marsala/itunes /home/shane/podcasts smbfs noauto,credentials=/etc/credentials,users 0 0

one of my windows shares can only be mounted if I am the root user. I am pretty sure my fstab is correct. If you notice below, I am able to unmount it as regular user. shane@mainbox ~ $ mount podcasts cannot mount on /home/shane/podcasts: Operation not permitted smbmnt failed: 1 shane@mainbox ~ $ su Password: mainbox shane # mount podcasts mainbox shane # exit exit shane@mainbox ~ $ umount podcasts shane@mainbox ~ $ here is my line from my fstab //marsala/itunes /home/shane/podcasts smbfs noauto,credentials=/etc/credentials,users,defaults 0 0 I also tried to do it with out the defualt

That looks like the best(only) free one out there. Everything windows based seemd to cost about $30. after I get it installed, I will let you know how it works.

do you guys have any suggestions for a free iso image editer. I need to be able to edit a full 600mb(one file) bootable cd. I have been googling for a while with no good results. I would prefer something with a gui(not in a thinking mood today), either windows or linux based

Trying To Fix Someone's Pc But Hit A Snag
shanenin replied to Honda_Boy's topic in Windows 10, 8, 7, Vista, and XP
did you check in the bios to see if it something does not look right? You could try and put the cddrive on the slave with the harddrive. I think it will slow down the throughput of the harddrive, but it may let you get it installed. -
Keeping things cool :-) I agree, we should not have polluted this thread with our views. sorry fubz :-)

I feel this is a little to political, but I think I will say it anyways. Nobody starves in America. Even the poorest people eat well. Our poor live like kings in comparison to lots of people in Africa. edit added later// Assumbing children are to young to leave the house on their own, sure some kids starve, do to neglectful parents who for get to feed them.

That was my thought also, but I think you need 80 wire ide cables to support that featue.

cool :-)

to be honest, I have never seen that syntax. Is that java?
-
it appears to be a counter. it will keep looping until the value of x is less then 0 I think these are equivailant(forgot my syntax, I don't know any java) x += sTwoPI x = x + sTwoPI I will use python for an example. Lets say you want somthing to loop 5 times, each time it will print the value of "x". Once the value of x hits 5 it will stop x = 0 while x < 5: x = x + 1 print x this is the same thing using the other syntax x = 0 while x < 5: x += 1 print x My programming skills are so forgotten, I had to look up the syntax to do this.

W98se Freezes On Splash Screen On Startup
shanenin replied to tman70's topic in Windows 10, 8, 7, Vista, and XP
there is no correct way. Your solution seemed to work great :-), it took more brain power then just reinstalling I would have probably just reinstalled(its the easy way), but that is just me. By reinstalling you fix the main problem, plus have the added benefit of a brand new clean install. That route is not for everyone. -
You mean malware companys can pay to make sure defender does not remove them? If that is what you mean, that seems really unlikely.
-
some computers support "wake up on lan" . This allows your network card to power up your system. You could check in the bios if that feature is enabled. That option will probably be under something like "power settings". Assumbing you have that option(you can disable it) enabled, a guess could be a faulty ethernet card(as you mentioned) would be causeing it to start.

I agree, it just seems better to reinstall. Until recently I never useed system restore, but for some things it is great. If I install something that borks up my system, sometimes system restore is a good easy way to goback a few minutes(assumbing I remembered to set a point). When I do sevice calls, it is a good way to diagnose/fix simple problems that my customers caused.
-
you are correct, virues can be saved in restore points. With that said, it seemed crazy to just say "don't use it". It can be a great tool.
-
Could you explain in more detail what you mean? Is it giving you an error? Do you mean the restore point is not there?

I know cds can also harbor viruses, maybe those should not be used either. I am just making a point, the statemet you said is kind of irresponsible.

Vista Rc2 Available For Download
shanenin replied to shanenin's topic in Windows 10, 8, 7, Vista, and XP
media center seems to be a little more stable with this version. I am still getting random crashes(less then with rc1) when playing avi files from my samba server(windows file sharing) -
after a little research, it just seems to be a bug with mcafee.
-
I was getting ready to reload a computer. I decided to see what hjt would find, more just to learn a little. mcafee detected and deleted hijackthis.exe. It said it was the worm w32.generic.worm!p2p . I download a fresh copy of hjt to see if it would happen again. Mcafee was quick to delete it. Have any of you heard of this before? edit added later// I am sure this is probably old news, I thought it was funny

I agree. When I listen to the Stones, it has an effect on my soul(insides). I am sure this is because of their strong blues roots. As a kid growing up(in the mid 80s) I liked groups like: led zeppelin, stones, jimmy hendrix. In retrospect, this was because those groups all have strong blues roots. I love the blues :-) by the way I obtained some Robert Johnson, I like him. Those original recodings are so old, it was very crackely. That seemed to add something positive to it(clear would be nice also).

18 may be to young to drink, then it is also to young to die in war; that is the oldest argument around(but a good one). In all honesty I think the drinking age should be 18. I also think all illegal drugs should be legalized. That is just my opinion.
