Hey Liz: I do the same thing. (keep my speakers off) I have very little luck with internet radio. It won't stay on, keeps buffering. I guess it's my lousey dialup. Have no other choice. Grrrrrrrrrr!! Barb What? You mean there's sound available on computers? What will they think of next? (Said very tongue in cheek of course!) I'm another one with speakers turned off, didn't see much need for them in first place what with all the annoying Windows sounds! Then when my next door neighbor's boarder's cell phone started coming in on the speakers I turned them off (waaaay to much information ab

As someone said earlier, you probably would get better savings account rates at a credit union. They are like a bank but for limited sections of the community, such as for union workers, technology company workers, teachers etc. But lately some of them are opening up to a more diverse population, say those living in a county or city, etc. So grab the yellow pages and do some searches and call a few banks, credit unions etc for information. Visit the local branches too to see how they treat you. Some places can be awfully stuck up to ordinary folks. Here is a really nice educational money/ban

Favorite smell anytime of year...the Pacific Ocean!!! Just had a week's vacation at the coast in our motorhome down at Long Beach Wa (SW corner of Wa). Didn't get to stay at our favorite state park campground at Cape Disappointment at Ilwaco a few miles south of Long Beach, because of their construction redoing all the best full hookup sites that are the only ones real close to the beach, but did find a private campground further north on the peninsula right next to the sand dunes and the beach. Unfortunately it was lots more expensive, very small, and in very close proximity to next RV site.

Here is the newest (April 30th) Oregonian update on this young man's story, about his recent visit to Portland to meet some of those who helped him reach for the future. Rescue Ronald carried us all aboard his boat Pat God bless everyone.

Well folks I guess I'd better tell you all what's been going on last couple of days here. The good news is I survived it all and doing so much better than I expected to be feeling today...still sore and black and blue but not as hurting to bad considering....! So to save typing with sore hand, I will copy part of a PM I sent to someone yesterday, so this is what happened yesterday. Seems like stuff just comes along and throws a monkey wrench into the best laid plans every so often just to see if you are paying attention. Written yesterday; Ten minutes or so after I checked out the new thread p

Welcome to our beloved BestTechie boards to you, and to all that have joined in recent months. I think I have missed saying welcome to many folks, sorry about that. I am glad to see new members, hope you all like it here as much as we do. We consider everyone here as part of our family. Stop by the cafe for a bit of coffee, coke and whatever food someone has offered. By the way I made a huge potato salad so plenty for everyone as soon as I get it carried over to the cafe in a little while. Check out the various sections of the board, and jump into whatever ones that interest you. The more the

The aquarium is my favorite. Yeah I suppose they have all been photoshopped but even so it's well done for most part and whoever did it had a very good imagination. Would be funny to be alongside some of those if real, especially the hot sauce one that was so hot it burned the place down, or the fish tank one, they would sure demand some rubber-necking from bystanders, or some people might even try to grab a beer or a Pepsi. Ha! Pat God bless everyone

Well no wonder he is depressed and lonely!!! That place isn't the friendliest looking room in town, it looks like one of those no visitors allowed type places!!! And no wonder he's tired out all the time with no place to sit, so lets all chip in and get him a nice comfy chair so he doesn't have to stand up to work. And remember Mac, all work and no play makes for an unhappy life. So take time off to enjoy life!!! Pat God bless everyone.

Have you tried Googling for Spades and Tonk Games? Might be able to find what you want that way... but be careful of the sites you check out to be sure they aren't loaded with nasty garbage along with games. Pat God bless everyone

Nice avatar Marty, but don't have sigs turned on to see your sig Liz! Maybe some day I ought to figure out one for me too, and ask handplane for help if I can't find one on web that I like. Old(er) lady in a rocking chair holding a Siamese cat for instance. Or Siamese cat next to computer, supervising me of course. Like I said...one of these days. Maybe after we get back from vacation next week, and I get this computer straightened out or reformatted or whatever it will take to get it working right soon, I'll get around to it...or not...seeing as how I have procrastinated this long already!!!

Hello Mac, sure has been lonesome around here without your good sense of humor surfacing every now and then. Remember you are an important part of this family, in fact each member is important because they are only ones who can contribute their own special take on things. So when you don't show up, we are losing out on your special contributions of humor and help and Macness! We do miss you my friend. When you said in your post that you were accepting things now, I immediately thought of the "Serenity Prayer". I checked the AA history site out for it as they have used it for many years as hav

I agree with their reasons for doing this, but do wonder too if it will give off false positives? And how will it treat non-XP older Windows systems? And what will our various antivirus/firewalls/antispyware programs have to say about this invader update? Seems like they had better have it right the first go-around with no patches needed, or else they will really deserve bad press and consumer anger over it. By the way will they also devise nagware to get those of us with older systems to upgrade? If they do, they had better be ready to lower their XP prices to make that feasible. Pat God ble

I think this might be a possible answer to those of us who don't want to (or can't) bike, or use public transportation to commute to work or even for just running around town. Beats motorcycles too by being enclosed. Though to get it easily refueled here, they should convert it to propane rather than using natural gas. Looks very promising! Cute efficient car for the future Pat God bless everyone

Thanks for the link JD. I checked out parts of it, and it seems to be mostly common sense stuff for family or individuals to do. The usual advice to have a complete stockpile of emergency supplies and be prepared to take care of yourself without outsider help. Be prepared for all outside services to be disrupted and businesses to be closed or out of needed supplies. Be prepared for caring for yourself and others, especially elderly/infirm. In other words the same as any other severe emergency, you are your own best help. One word of advice is to not panic over this or any other thing that migh

I know what you are thinking, boy has she got an odd sense of humor....yep you're right!!! It all started innocently enough, I was just Googling for dryer reviews, no we still haven't decided what brand to get yet. Eventually landed on the laundry section of this website. So as long as I was there I figured I might as well check the rest of the place out....right? So a half hour later, I found this thread and laughed so hard my ribs hurt and tears poured down my face....yep my funny bone was definitely tickled due to my having had several 'pukers' over the years including our current Siamese
