the 256meg of ram shouldn't be a problem for you to be online with a broadband hookup as long as you aren't running lots of other stuff in the background My SuSe box only has 256m ram and i get on the forums, irc, trillian and play music at the same time without problems

try removing any diectx files from your computer, there should be a directx folder in the system32 folder. Delete it then reinstall directx, make sure you have the latest version

This is a must for anyone using xp. To be able to boot from a cd with all the necessary files to repair, or delete files from your hard drive when it won't boot is a must have. I had forgotton that I already had this as I only use xp on my lappy. He also does a win2k version
