  1. Hey everybody, I thought I'd share this little story with y'all because it still has me a little weirded out.... While at work on Oct. 28th I had more than a passing thought of my childhood/high school sweetheart....I've thought of her over the years off and on but not like this and it's been over 16 years since we spoke. I figured, what the hell, I'll at least run the standard stalker-style internet searches for her to see what I come up with....I found what seemed to be enough information on her to show up at her doorstep if I were a raving nut...lol But like most things in my life, I over-t

    Halloween

Hi folks...and happy belated Halloween. I slept through it also since I had to work 10pm-6am...I don't get trick-or-treaters here since it's a security building (yippeeee!!!!!) ...so no interuptions to my precious sleep. I did feel kind of bad for not taking my son out for his first trick-or-treating but his mom took care of that and got him more candy in about 90 minutes than I think he should have till next Halloween. Anyway, what kind of proud daddy would I be without showing a picture of my little dinosaur.
  3. Guess I'll chime in to let everyone see I'm still alive. what I've tried/used: Debian (sarge/etch/sid) Gentoo Iccaros Knoppix Mandrake/Mandriva Mepis Red Hat & Fedora Core 3 Slackware (slax) What I have/use currently: Ubuntu: Dapper (on three machines dual booting XP)
  4. Hi folks.... it's been a while. like most New England weather everything is subject to change at a moments notice but currently it's in the mid 60s and cloudy ...supposed to be a few days of this then back up into the 80s for a few days....as hot as it has been getting, it still cools off pretty good at night....seems like summer is over when it gets cool at night... the coolness is welcome, summer being over is not....don't even want to think about fall and winter creeping in. In case any of ya' been wondering where I've been....not that computers have lost all their appeal but I seem to
  5. Is the wireless built-in to the laptop or is it a card? I could be way off the mark but I've noticed a couple different manufacturers allow ascii or hex keys, this is a very small detail that can be overlooked (I speak from experience ), just a small tick box meant connect or not.
  6. I noticed I've missed a few birthdays around here lately so to see the opportunity to start this thread was a pleasure. So, happy birthday RV....best wishes for many more. And happy birthday to the people I've missed....even that punk@ss Jeff (aka besttechie)
  7. Bearskin, I tested the problem and can duplicate your results (sorta)....I see we're using different firewalls (you=ZA, me=kerio) but my guess is it's a common setting related to either...with firewall enabled, I get the same error -- disabled I can view just fine....I re-enable the firewall and I can still view....and I have no idea why...lol
  8. Thanks for the well wishes folks, I'll be sure to pass em' on to the little one. Heh, not quite yet...did give him a little keyboard to inspire some musical ability though. IMO, too much...Seemed like all he had to eat all day was junk food.
  9. Hiya folks, I know I haven't been around much as of late but have been pretty busy in the real world...My son and work, among other things, have been taking priority over my online time...Not to say that I don't still pop in daily though. Anyway, the purpose for this post as you may have gotten from the title. Jacob turned 1 year old yesterday!!!!! Hard to believe it's been a year already and that he's gone from this: to this: Of course he got spoiled rotten with scads of new toys....Especially his new power wheels quad that Daddy got him.
  10. Techno-rama-lama-ding-dong? I too have not had any coffee, or sleep for that matter. BTW, what's a show?....Is it one of those things that plays on that box with glass on the front...thought that was only for my kid to watch the backyardigans. Who has time?....lol
  11. Halle Berry (X-Men character = Storm)
  12. heya shanenin, Try adjusting your GTK fonts....not sure how to do that in gnome but if I do: kcontrol>appearance and themes>GTK styles and fonts> and adjust from 9 (default) to something higher, it does exactly what you want.
  13. The good wiper program I'd recommend is removing the drive....voila! private data secure. Yeah, I'm being serious....I don't think I'd ever sell any of my PCs including any hard drives.
  14. Just thought I'd throw this link up for new users ( Ubuntu Dapper Drake 6.06 Guide ) Was off to a rocky start with some show-stopper annoyances but things are improving...Who'd have thought I had to stop the bluetooth service from running at boot to get my mouse and keyboard to work?...lol
  15. BAH!!!! Not liking it so far! I prefer the text based installer, and as Shanenin pointed out, it makes you do certain things like assigning mount points.... and not prompting for where GRUB is going? WTF?!!! Those are just minor annoyances compared to the so-called improvements that make things not work that worked fine in hoary and breezy....does anyone here think a logitech MX900 wireless keyboard/mouse duo is exotic hardware? Ubuntu must since I'm having issues! This was a better distro when it wasn't so damn popular.
  16. You too huh?...Been waiting for Dapper to reinstall, myself. Almost ashamed that I've been using XP exclusively on my main system lately but I've been gaming quite a bit so that makes it OK, I guess.
  17. LOL What a fitting graduation gift....Welcome to the real world, here's your firearm...happy shooting! congrats BTW
  18. LOL I had to attend an evaluation class for work and you'd be surprised how many of those were on their "what not to write" list.
  19. Not much originality to this one...Modded the Jessica Alba "Into the Blue" promo pic...not too original but d@mn she's hot!
  20. Nice work I'd go a little bigger (not much) with the text...it's readable but kinda tough on older eyes.
  21. Happy Birthday, Neldy!!! oops, don'tcha just hate a typo in the topic that you can't fix
  22. Usually I'd agree but looking at all the features of Nero (when it's working as it should, that is) I'd be surprised if you could find one app that does it all. As for the problem, nothing wrong in device manager, nothing in the event viewer, other aspects of nero actually work without problems, such as burning discs of any kind as long as it doesn't involve transcoding...I'd be happy to install a replacement app for her at this point, as long as it can import divx/xvid .avis, create menus and burn a dvd. I'm losing more geek status everyday that it doesn't work.
