That may have been true a little while back but I hardly think it "requires" it nowadays. Especially using (K)Ubuntu and most other distros that provide a package manager. I did the same thing by jumping in and thought I was over my head a bit when I first started with linux....Some of the lacking hardware support 'forced' me into command line situations (which in hindsight was a good thing) but given the improved state of hardware support in linux, I think you could get by with very minimal command line knowledge and still make good use of the OS...Not to say that use couldn't get more effici

Well, problem solved....Not sure what filter in the Adblock extension was causing it but whitelisting the whole site fixed it. For anyone that might have the same issue using the same filterset, that's the quick fix. For anyone that has the time to look this list over and can find the cause, I'd be interested to know since these are pretty standard filters. *.ad-* *.ad.* */ad.* */ad/* */adbot.* */adc_* */adclient.* */adcouncil/* */adframe.* */adgifs/* */adgraph/* */adimages/* */adinfo* */adlog.* */adlog/* */adrotator.* *.ads-* *.ads.* */ads.* */ads/* */advert* */adview.* */housead/* */liveads/

Just noticed the upgrade yesterday and was doing a little exploring this morning and noticed; "my friends" link does nothing in FF...nothing shows up for content when viewing someones profile...can't add friends with link in their profile. Everything works fine in IE and Opera. Might be other things that I haven't noticed....Is it just me or does everyone have these issues?

Hate to state the obvious but try reinstalling the sound drivers....I had some driver issues with a soundblaster that made it do some kooky things that I wouldn't figure would be driver related but cleared up upon reinstalling And to Honda_Boy: You say that like it's a bad card....That card and about $130 speakers and my system could get me evicted.

Happy New Year, folks!!!! Was totally asleep when the clock struck 12....With work, my son and the holidays keeping me busy the last couple weeks, I've been feeling pretty drained. Not to mention, working third shift then staying up all day to ring in the new year would be pretty much impossible without an assist from modern pharmaceuticals. Hoping next new years eve will be different given that I should be getting a promotion and change of shift at work. Hope your new years eve was a little more exciting than mine....but just as safe...lol

Six fingers of Jack Daniels with more Jack on the side. You'd be surprised how much easier the shopping ordeal becomes after that too...lol About 5-10 years ago, I used to hit the bar right near the entrance of the mall and down a six pack and a few shots, head on in to a delightful shopping experience....and for some strange reason, people would keep their distance. Since I don't really drink anymore, I seem to find myself procrastinating the whole shopping thing...BTW, I started my shopping this morning.

Heh, I resemble that one, and I'm not sayin' I'm tall.

I'm only guessing here since I don't have the same model keyboard and I don't have logitech's software installed but the guess would be -->start>control panel>Printers and other hardware (in category view) or keyboard (in classic view). I'd also guess there is a field to re-input the 16 digit key to disable it....ya' still have the key, right?

funny Shanenin: I went and am still going through somewhat of the same "rut" you're experiencing but I don't really have the reasons you do (business related), I've kinda switched back to using windows primarily for the apps I use in my hobbies (e.g. Photoshop CS, Guitar Tracks Pro, Dreamweaver, etc. etc. etc.). I haven't booted my desktop to linux in what seems like months (quite the waste of 550GB of HD space) and have a laptop running ubuntu 24/7 only for watching movies in bed (basically requires no maintenance). I haven't really learned anything new about linux in quite a while and hav

Hey TT_75...your link returns an error...thought it might because I wasn't logged in at BC but happens even when logged in. Went looking for what you might be talking about and couldn't find it....lol re-link? -

Took me a minute to figure out that you were referring to the thumbnail...lol The image still contains the original thumbnail in the exif data Just re-saving it in PS seemed to strip the old thumbnail from the exif...should be ok now -
heh, I kinda like TT_75's more than mine but anyway.....

That's a matter of opinion and potentially misleading....I tried Gnome when I first switched over from windows and was not comfortable with it....KDE, in my opinion, is more "Windows-like" and most people switching over should feel a little more at home. and as pointed out, I'd go with a live cd to just check it out....imagine it running a lot faster, having access to considerably more applications and being far more customizable to your needs and that's what it'll be like actually installed to your HD

ticker tocker...getting off topic here. did you call your high schol sweetheart yet? <hi-jacking> Heh, bearskin asks me a off-topic question and if I reply I seem like the thread hi-jacker....hmmmm, what to do. OK, guess a minor jacking won't hurt.... The answer: No, I haven't and I don't know why....It's been bugging me quite a bit so thanks for bringing it up right when I thought I was done thinking about it! Seriously though, I'm having those "high school reunion" feelings of inadequacy about my life (you know, like single at 37, I don't make 6 figures, drive a benz, didn't beco

The forum banner...lol....ask someone who made it and you'll find out why. ...kidding of course. It's pretty much been said, the maturity level, no flaming, spamming, blah blah blah....Alot of us have "known" each other for a while now which gives it that friends/family environment.

Sure, why not...another blog I can fail to update on a regular basis. VirtuallyTom

Golf...I'm not a fan of the sport (translation: I suck at it) but it was the only other driver I could think of besides the obvious tech related.

Hiya Mac, As Shanenin said in a previous post, you can use fixmbr to get back rid of the bootloader and have windows boot normally. Once in windows, surprisingly you don't need a third party app to delete the partition....Windows can do that through disk management but if you're just going to try a different distro, it seems pointless since the next distro you try will be capable of deleting, resizing and repartitioning the drive.

Since it's been sixteen years, worst case, he pays for two more years. And without pointing any fingers or asking any questions, sixteen years ago high school sweethearts didn't necessarily mean potential fatherhood. Could, but not necessarily. I did that math a long time ago....lol I moved from the state 3/22/89, her child was born 5/5/90....Since I don't recall ever hearing of a gestation period of 13.5 months for a human, I think I'm in the clear on that one....lol I do remember being somewhat disappointed at the time that the boyfriend after me wasted no time in knocking her up tho
