Thanks all And I guess if anyone wondered if I dropped off the face of the planet...this kinda confirms that I may still lurk a little bit. Oh, and Happy Thanksgiving!!!

Glad to see I'm not the only one that's busy.....I do try to drop by daily to catch up though. So, what I've been up to in case anyone is interested....The usual.... Work, spending time with the little boy and occasionally trying to make time for other things I enjoy doing. Oh, and my big news... I've quit smoking (smoke-free since 4/8/07) and started working out again.... that's another 8-9 hours a week that I can hardly spare but I enjoy feeling stronger and looking a helluva lot better. anyway, for all the times I was gonna post and didn't....Happy Birthday, Congrats, Get Well Soon and so

I've always kept my life pretty simple and it doesn't take much to remember the important things on the "to-do" list of a simple life but lately I've been doing a bit of pc repair work on top of my 42+ hours a week "real job". I've attributed having a good memory all my life due to being a musician (read that in a study somewhere, don't know the validity) and it seems I still remember how to play things that I learned decades ago but sometimes can't remember what services I may or may not have done on someone's PC....and since I'm a little too prideful, I don't keep notes. If it's not importan

Wonky Mouse/keyboard Issue In Latest Firefox
tictoc5150 replied to bobbynichols's topic in Windows 10, 8, 7, Vista, and XP
No lag on the latest FF for me but did have an issue earlier with scrolling...I guess the word would be "wonky". I thought it was something to do with my mouse but I changed nothing and it seemed to correct itself. -
Better wait for Pierce's permission...lol I think it's funny how Americans with Irish in their heritage live up to the stereotypes more than most Irish do these days anyway....And even funnier, the pride that they show for said heritage and they've never been there.

I've never owed the government taxes and have always gotten at least something back from both fed and state but going from filing zero on my W-4 and claiming myself at the end of the year to being able to claim my son...all I can say is cha' ching....I won't say how much but my little 27lbs deduction gets me quite a bit extra in my refund.....Not like I needed one more reason to love him but Daddy likes a fat check. How it's spent....get a little ahead on some bills....buy another TV and DVD player...maybe another HDD or 2....Share some with my son's mom to spoil him....and lastly, live above

Hey Shanenin, I have no experience with this program (or shell extension), so I can't vouch for it but it seems to be what you're looking for. Hope it helps

When making minor changes or small uploads to my site, I use the FireFTP extension for firefox....I've used most of the apps everyone else mentioned and they're all good but it's pretty convenient having the function built in to my browser to see the changes with just switching and reloading the tab. I also use *gasp* Windows explorer and IE to ftp from time to time.

I noticed the upgrade to their map a short while ago...Kinda neat. Like BD I used to use weatherpulse which was pretty cool but these days I like to keep my running processes under 30 and I'm satisfied with using the forecastfox extension for firefox (almost always have a browser window open anyway) and also prefer accuweather.com to weather.com as the former is built-in to the extension and seems a little quicker to load.....who needs fancy maps as long as I don't have to clean off my car...lol

Good tip about the backup, indeed. Even people technologically "in-the-know" wouldn't assume it would wreak that kind of havoc. Here's a nice little "for instance" that popped into my head as I read your post. Someone has a dual boot system and decides to upgrade, install or reinstall Vista and assumes they'll only need to reinstall grub after the install. I've done this numerous times with XP and never once physically disconnected the linux drive(s) - Would be a real eye opener and quite the enraging moment to find it formatted and wrote to one of those drives. So, I guess I pose these questi

I'm not too familiar with FC but this should work su (password when prompted) gedit /boot/grub/grub.conf change default to the number of the operating system you want. start counting from zero and count each "title" entry. (you can also change the default time if you choose) save and close that should do it

Uhhhh.......good question:-) I think scsi means scuzzy.......not sure if scsi also means SATA. Maybe iccaros, jcl, or t0c knows this one. It gives me a headache to think about it. SATA is SATA and SCSI is SCSI. SATA is descended from an IBM PC/AT device interface (ATA = AT Attachment) and SCSI is descended from an older peripheral interface invented at one of Xerox's subsidiaries. So, they're different. However, SATA devices can emulate SCSI devices via SCSI-ATA Translation (SAT), Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) controllers can be used with SATA drives (by tunneling the SATA protocol through S

Heya Marty, A reinstall of windows was unnecessary but for the next time you encounter the issue... I usually go about deleting the partitions the same way you mentioned - Reboot with Windows CD (CD drive set as first boot device in BIOS, of course), enter the recovery console (press R when it asks you whether you want to install windows {if memory serves me}), When you're at the console, type: fixmbr This will remove the grub bootloader and let windows boot normally.

I had intended to take that advice and test it out today (and wait for my next errors) but looked at the event viewer to see if anything misbehaved while I was at work last night and found this wonderful bit: Event Type: Warning Event Source: Ftdisk Event Category: Disk Event ID: 57 Date: 1/22/2007 Time: 4:09:57 PM User: N/A Computer: TAYLOR1 Description: The system failed to flush data to the transaction log. Since I pride myself on not having to ask questions this is rather irritating but I seem to be stumped on this... No recent configuration changes (software or hardware) Noticed some choppy video playback and some slight hanging of cursor (maybe 2 sec.) Rebooted to see if that would fix it Hung at Windows screen (the progress bar boot splash) for about 3 minutes then booted fine. Went to play a video to check it and found my slave drive missing in "my computer" and in disk management Checked the event log and found a ton of these entries: The file system structure on the disk is corrupt and unu

Amplify Audio In Videos
tictoc5150 replied to LegolasX21E's topic in Windows 10, 8, 7, Vista, and XP
Virtualdub (freeware) can do what you need to do, depending on the video format...Due to copyright restrictions, Virtualdub can't process videos that use certain kinds of compression (mostly microsoft "owned" codecs, I believe) but alot of avi's such as Divx and Xvid are fine as well as many others. If I'm not mistaken it can handle mpeg too. If you choose this, the process would be relatively simple... open the file with Vdub>click video- select "direct stream copy">click audio- select "full processing mode">click audio again- click volume>tick "adjust volume of audio channels", a -
I found this wading through some of the comments on slashdot and thought this was a great idea. I recently upgrading the hard drive on my Toshiba Satellite and had to go through the process of getting rid of all the unwanted crap that comes preinstalled and hence, reinstalled when using the restore CD. This can be quite time consuming as well as just plain bothersome. I have no experience with the tool I'm linking to but think it merits a mention. It seems it would automate most of the tasks of getting rid a bit of the bloat of the major PC manufacturers. The "Currently uninstalls List" *

Kickback from Canon for the shameless plug?
-
I'm pretty sure it's the old one (Adblock 0.5.3.043)...I've thought about trying the plus version and have it auto update (as I believe it does) but I'm the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" kind of guy. Thanks, I wish I could say I coded it all but most of the thanks goes to the folks at Wordpress ( and whoever created the Dark Blix theme) and Coppermine for the photo gallery. Nonetheless, It's always nice to have new traffic to the site and a compliment at that...thanks again EDIT: and it's funny what someone commenting on the site does to traffic too....ya' spiked my statcounter log yeste
