  2. Hi jassuji, I'm sorry but we do not help people who have illegal software on their machines. It's in our Terms of Service which every member agrees to when they join the forums. Here's the excerpt from the ToS: I'm going to close this thread - if you have any questions feel free to contact me. B
  3. Hey Everyone, I don't think I made this a public announcement (though some of you know about it), but I figured I'd let you all know... For the past few weeks I've been campaigning - I've been running for school president. On Wednesday, the speeches were made I went last (how much better does that get, for once my last name pays off - it starts with W ) Anyway, they announced my name the place literally went crazy, everyone was screaming "Jeff!!!!" "Vote Jeff!!!!" so I felt pretty confident going up there. I started off a little shaky but towards the middle I got into my flow and I was
  4. Personally, I'd wait til next school year. Intel is going to be releasing quad-core stuff soon and pretty soon after that laptops will be running on it. You'll have all new mobile chipsets and everything will be newer and faster. When you get it, just slap on XP and get rid of Vista. That type of machine will definitely last you for a while. Enjoy the new laptop when you get it, Matt. B
  5. I don't know if I'm supposed to post to this buttttttt....I'ma do it anyway I'm going to give you guys a little background in the world of BestTechie Some of you may know some of this and some of you don't, so here goes. How do I feel about the site that I've built and have been developing since May of 2003 when I registered the domain. This site is probably my biggest accomplishment so far in my young life and I couldn't be happier than how it has progressed to this point. The site started off mainly as really nothing, actually. It was page with some of my writing and some links and a few
  6. Hey Everyone! Tonight I have some very very exciting news for all of you! Tonight - I am pleased to announce the grand opening of something called BT Blogs! So what are BT Blogs you might ask? 7. Nice set of tweaks: http://www.lifehacker.com/software/firefox...eaks-209941.php I have a tweak so when you minimize it - it reduces the amount of ram being used just as IE7 and Opera do. I've also set a few others on that page. B
  8. As stated we can not help bypass what filters your school has in place. However, maybe if you try talking to one of the people at your school who runs the computers and show them that the topic your researching keeps getting blocked by the filters maybe they'll let you passed the filter for that particular search. Annoying, yes, I know - but I've actually had some success with that approach, sometimes they'll lift the filter or put the password in for you. Just make sure you explain it to them in a nice manner. B
  9. Moved to the electronics forum - you'll probably recieve better help here. B
  10. I personally recommend Smoothwall for the OS side of things: http://smoothwall.org B
  11. Hi makepeace, We were able to delete those files with KillBox if you look at the HJT they are no longer there after we ran it. Also, in order to help with HJT logs on this forum you need to be on the HJT Team. We appreciate your help though. Feel free to post to other sections of the forums and help out. The malware forum is the only one off limits to regular members, unless you need help. Please don't take this the wrong way, it's just how we operate around here. B
  12. It's not in beta any more...so make sure you get a final version, but I agree with Dave, try reinstalling and see where you end up. B
  13. I'm not a huge fan of system restore. I personally don't feel it should be used unless absolutely necessary. However to answer your question, make sure you have system restore enabled first of all. Right click My Computer => Properties => System Restore tab => make sure it's not set to disable and that it's monitoring your hard drive If it is enabled, we're going to need some more details as shane pointed out. B
  14. Your log is mostly clean, please have HJT fix the following, reboot and post a new log. Also, let me know how the machine is running after that. 15. I was at school and I heard a ton of police, fire, and ambulance sirens... They must have all been going there. I didn't know until I got in the car to go home that something happened. B
  16. Hey iccaros, I like it. Good choice with wordpress as you may or may not know, blogs are very big on search engines now. So going with wordpress is a good idea. I like the layout and template. The only thing I would change is the permalinks. If you login to the admin panel, go to options --> permalinks and you can chose the type of links you want. I use the date and name based ones. I think they look nicer and they can always be used as keywords in search results. NOTE: you may need to edit your htaccess file when you change the permalinks stucture. PS: Maybe can a favicon made for

  18. Happy Birthday Honey!!! I posted this early, because I wanted to beat everyone else as I know how ontop of birthdays we are here! I feel like I've known you for 18 years... even though we've only dated for 1 year and 4 months and now 6 days! (Don't ask me about hours, minutes, and seconds because I don't know) Every day with you is something special and different and I look forward to many many more with you. You always bring something new to each day. Whether it be a picture that is amazing, your sense of humor, your optimism, your personality and I can go on and on - I enjoy all of it

  21. Dell's have gotten better in the laptop area - better than they used to be at least. They're using better parts and materials. (And yes, I know about the battery incident, even still) As for Sony Vaio's I personally feel they are over priced. I'd agree with the Toshiba suggestion though. I bought a toshiba laptop a few years ago and it's still rock solid. Highly recommend Toshiba. B
