Trying To Install New Dvd Burner
TheTerrorist_75 replied to velda's topic in Windows 10, 8, 7, Vista, and XP
Do you normally boot to your LAN? If not disable third boot device. Recheck your IDE cables and make sure they are on correctly. Is this a home built PC or something such as a Dell? -
Trying To Install New Dvd Burner

Check to see if the hard drive is set as first boot device in the Bios. Also if the keyboard is now functioning try Last known good configuration. Make sure you placed the IDE cable the right side up and that the cable is good. -
Trying To Install New Dvd Burner

Try powering it down and setting the DVD burner as Master and CD burner as Slave. With the PC powered down unplug it and move the Cmos jumper to the clear position and remove the battery for awhile. After a few minutes wait put the battery back in and move the jumper back to it's original position. Plug the PC back in and start it up booting into the Bios. Check that all drives are set to be automatically recognized and that they are seen. Save and exit the Bios (usually F10). -
Any OS improperly setup and used is insecure. The normal users are the ones at risk. You can take someone new to Linux, Mac and Windows unknowingly run a system open to attacks. I am not a true expert on any OS, but I can state none of my Windows PCs have ever been crippled due to outside forces in the past 6 years. That's not bad for someone who has only used a computer since 1998. Of course I haven't surfed for cracks, warez, and other such programs since 2000. The only Linux OS besides Live CD versions I have tried were Mandrake 8.1. I gave up on that after being chased out of the Linux for

You should send his birthday wishes via his hotmail account. He was here for 2 days last June.

You should be able to just disable the onboard video so you can use the ATI card.

Are you saying some DFI motherboards do not require SATA drivers to be loaded to install XP to a SATA drive? That's what I have seen at one site. I don't know if this is if they are hooked to the Marxell or nForce ports though.
-
Yes you need to load drivers for a SATA hard drive even though you don't plan on using RAID. You need to know what SATA controller is used then find the correct SATA drivers and place them on a floppy. When you come to the point during XP install where it says to press F6 to install drivers place the floppy disk in. I just looked at a site which deals with DFI and they state you don't need to load the SATA drivers, but it is necessary on some Via chipset motherboards. I need to look further. Siddy Where did you install the SATA drives? 1&2 (Marxell chip) or 3&4 (nForce3 chip)? Also i

Did you install the RAID/SATA drivers during the install of XP?

XP "Corporate" DING, DING! The Colorado college was passing out a corporate version with the pirated key. All of the kiddies were then passing it around to their friends.
-
It'll work.
-
The only time I have had SP2 fail to install was due to a bad key. The customer installed WinXP that he got from an online college in Colorado so he could do his courses. Of course it had to be the number one key listed at Microsoft for pirated keys. In fact I have that PC still sitting on my workbench. I've had it since last September waiting for him to pick it up. All i could do is remove the malware and install the critical updates. At least he doesn't plan on using it online anymore.
-
After I installed SP2 I disabled Security Center. I don't allow Auotmatic Updates and use Panda anti-virus with it's firewall. I see no need for Security Center popping up and telling things that do not concern me. I won't even download or use Microsoft's anti-malware programs. For the normal user who doesn't understand how to protect their PCs then Security Center is fine.

Are you installing using FAT32 or NTFS? If NTFS try FAT32. You can switch over to NTFS later after the install. Also try a full format instead of quick. Another problem may be the memory. Have you tried memtest86+ or Windows Memory Diagnostic to check it? What brand and type memory? With the Barton you should use PC2700 at least. Some boards can be finicky with certain brands.

Haha, im not sure if that violates child labor laws, or slave laws Back in our day $5 for a partial day's work was a lot of money for us kids. I used to earn $35 a week working on a muck when I was 14 during the summer.

Did it install correctly with the fresh hard drive? I have seen remnants on a used hard drive cause many issues with a new install. Every empty hard drive I have on hand has been wiped with KillDisk then FDISKed and formatted FAT32 with the WnME bootdisk. I have seen problemic drives turn into usable drives again using this procedure. In fact I am using an old IBM drive that a friend said was dying and causing him all kinds of grief. It is running my XP HE SP2 install just fine.

You shouldn't have any problems with those specs. I'm running XP Home with SP2 on a XP 2400+, Epox 8KHA+, 512MB Kingston PC2700 and MSI MX4000. Have you tried doing a low level format on the drive then run FDISK and format with a Win98/ME bootdisk? I use KillDisk to wipe the drive so no remnants of previous installs can cause problems then I FDISK and format with this WinME bootdisk from Radifed. http://radified.com/Files/bootmec.exe. Just format a floppy then install this to it (self-extracting).

I'm not lucky with this piece of crap rider. Dear old dad bought it off his friend who needed money for the casino. He paid $500 for it and has sunk another $400 into it. After the last fiasco with the repair shop it has now come down to me to fix it. This rider was sold at Agway about 15-20 years ago. Finding parts is almost impossible. The fool thing isn't even worth $150. I need to replace the base gasket, rebuild the mower/blower deck supports, replace the blade spindles and bearings plus the blades, replace all of the belts and many more small but necessary items. I have cussed out the ol

WHat are your system specs? Did you run the compatibility test from the CD before installing XP? It sounds like you have a hardware conflict.

I think you're getting delayed broadcasts Marty. The major storms hit a few days previous. We are at that time of year when bad storms crop up quickly. Today is a teaser for me. It started out nice and warm this morning/early afternoon, but it is now raining with strong winds. At least I got the push mower tuned up and running nice. In the spring I prefer using that over the rider.

There's actually someone that is as warped as I am when it comes to filling out job applications.
