  1. I would say his first problem was not creating a dual boot setup bewteen XP and Vista plus not doing further research regarding the hardware issues which have been posted on the web for some time now. My 5 year old PC will run Vista as is with the hardware in it. This computer cost me about $700 to build back then. To allow it to run Vista even better I would need to upgrade the memory ($50) and video card ($60).
  2. Well after a couple of days using IE7 on my friends computer I can positively state they should keep it on the options list. What a pain in the butt. You could never get me to switch from IE6 let alone Opera.
  3. You can include Panda for Vista users. For users of Panda Antivirus + Firewall 2007 and Panda Internet Security 2007
  4. Here's the latest logs. Panda Active Scan was down so I ran Housecall. It found three adware related entries and cleaned them. I also deleted those two registry entries that I posted previous. Housecall detected and cleaned. 5. I don't need to deal with it. I bought all my favorite CDs years ago and made copies. The originals are stored properly. The only time I listen to canned music is through my home or car stereo CD system.
  6. I think these are bad and should be removed. 7. I hope they keep it optional. What a pain to have that install automatically, especially if the computer is malware laden.

  9. Should I run kazaabegone v1.30? Should I remove any remnants of My Web Search using HJT then remove any folders? I need to leave before 5 PM EST. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I ran kazaabegone, created a new Restore Point then deleted the older ones through Disk Cleanup, ran CCleaner, ran the online scans from Kaspersky and Panda. Panda Active Scan shows 2 detections for Hacker Tools and rootkits. All of the new logs are below. I had to leave. If you see anything further or have any other programs that should be run let me know

  11. This is my trackball mouse. I rarely use it.
  12. I am moving this to the Malware?HijackThis section of the forums.
  13. I'll be back there about Noon EST Monday. There are still two active accounts on the computer (his and hers). Do I need to perform any additional scans on her account? Everything so far has been run through his account.
  14. I need to run. I won't be finishing this until Monday. I will check on this thread when I get home and print further instructions from you to bring back here. Here is the Panda Scan log and a new HJT log. I have also ran jv16 and CCleaner. Later. Thanks. Incident Status Location
  15. Over an hour to scan. There used to be two other accounts that were removed. I have noticed that one of them left behind remains of Kaaza. --------------------------------------------------------- AVG Anti-Spyware - Scan Report --------------------------------------------------------- + Created at: 5:03:12 PM 2/23/2007 + Scan result: C:\Program Files\Starware316\bin\Starware316.dll -> Adware.Comet : Cleaned. 16. I will be running some of the online scan shortly plus AVG anti-malware. These logs are to show you what the PC has on it to start. My friends use Limewire but have no knowledge how Kaaza got on here (son maybe?). The McAfee subscription is up and I need to remove it. They now use AOL's protection. 17. I can't remember how many critical updates I downloaded. 12 seems about right and I don't do the additional ones unless they are needed. I have installed all of the Genuine crap without issue even though my XP setup is supposedly a Gateway.
  18. We have another round of lake effect coming. I don't think the snow in my yard will be gone until June or July. I have two big mounds that are about ten to twelve feet tall and solidly compacted. I have another mound that runs the length of my driveway that is eight feet high and about thirty five feet long. The snow around the house is piled up to the windows. At least it is hard packed and frozen so the dog can walk on top for his morning rituals without sinking out of sight.
  19. That's the way any burning software I have ever used worked. When you copy a CD it is an exact copy. You may need to adjust the speed down on some of the newer burners so no errors crop up.
  20. The Copy feature of my NTI burning program makes an exact copy of my music CDs. I believe all burning software disk copy features do so.
  21. http://www.motherboards.org/reviews/motherboards/1651_4.html That's the floppy for installing the SATA/RAID drivers. Just because it is labled RAID doesn't mean you need to enable RAID. The manual should have a section describing loading those drivers for the SATA drive.
  22. I am not sure about setting an ATA hard drive as slave on an IDE channel to transfer to SATA. You may have to make the ATA drive a Master also.
  23. Attach an extra IDE cable (slave end) to the drive (jumpered as slave) then stick the drive into a ziplock freezer bag with the IDE cable hanging out. Seal the bag the best you can (use tape to seal around the cable). Wrap a towel around the ziplock bag and place it in the freezer for a couple of hours. Make your new drive has XP installed. When you are ready to transfer the data unplug the IDE cable from the motherboard to the new drive and install the cooled hard drive and IDE cable in the computer. Make sure the new hard drive is jumpered to recognize a slaved drive. Get your data transfer
