  1. This is the same comp as the one with the 2K prob. I trashed 2K and put 98se on it. Well I tried using the 95/98/Me 81.98 Forceware drivers. It said there was no nVidia chip present. Well there is. It's a 32MB eVGA e-TNT2. Well I had an old eVGA disc that came with my 5700 Ultra. Well cause of the old ADM system in it, it spotted out the chipset it was running on and installed all the nesecary drivers. Handy disc to have around for old computers let me tell ya. Well after installing all that and restarting, it tried to install old 6 series drivers but there is a failure every time. That doesn'

  5. well thank you BT but according to MS's fixes (there is no ATA controller like it says) I can't do it. He has absolutely no clue where any of the disks are. Most of the repairs I do the people have no idea where the disks are. I'll just put 98se on it. It's just an old Athlon 800MHz with 128MB of PC100. It's obviously a different board and CPU than orignal. It syas on the outside of the case Geared by MSI and has a Celeron Badge. I looked up the model number on the mobo on google. It's an Epox. i found this ammusing. It was a 1.1Ghz Celeron with a 100MHZ FSB according to a sticker inside the c
  6. Well I'm fixing a friend's computer with 2K on it. It says this file is missing or corrupt \WINNT\system32\config\SYSTEMced I'd really appreciate it if someone could give me this file. I can't seem to find it in XP. Thanks
  7. Are you going to be gaming?do you need somethig that supports SLI?. I'd go for anything made by Asus Gigabyte or MSI. My preference for chipsets is the nForce 4 Series. If you need SLI I'd get the nForce 4 SLI or the SLI 16X.
  8. never used Opera. i use FF. ever since I started using FF never used IE. I even install it on the computers I use at school.
  9. have you been checkin the temps while it's doing this. Mine screams at me when i goes over the limit I set.
  10. thanks maybe when I get my tax return I'll take a crack at it. (actually my tax return is about the same amount as an average paycheck). It's not like I'm desperate to get it running. I have more CRT's than I know what to do with. It'd just be nice to have that LCD in my repair station due to its automatic screen sizing.
  11. Here's the pics for the Compaq and my speaker mod. Here's the tower. Here's the whole setup. And here's the speaker mod. The sub is in the floor on the lower left hand corner of the picture.
  12. shouldn't be a prob. I use twin hard drives in one comp. the computer still sees both drives as 2 different ones. just make sure that the jumpers are set correctly
  13. Well the back light is messed up on it. It's a Sceptre X7 Iguana. The backlight works for only a fraction of a second only when first recieves a signal, say when you first turn it on or say when it switch screens while booting or changing resolutions in windows. The light refuses to stay on. and it ain't brightness or the monitor is completely broke..... it ain't. It's just the light trust me. So does anyone know of a way I can fix it myself for cheap cause it's gonna cost more than it's worth to fix it at a shop and I have no warranty for it. Thank god it was free. Well if anyone knows anythi

  15. I've got one word....................Zalman. They make the best CPU HSF's, I've heard. I use coolermaster cause i'm cheap and lazy. And 50 Celsius is cool for my blazin hot XP 3000+. My 2000+ runs slightly cooler but my stinkin 2600+ runs at like 36. and that's on some cheapo fan Compaq slapped on it. any way Zalmans take a little more work too atach than a regular fan. thats why i bought a cheap coolermaster at my local shop. Here's some suggestions. ZALMAN CNPS7000B-ALCU 92mm 2 Ball Cooling Fan - Retail ZALMAN CNPS7000B-AlCu LED 2 Ball Blue LED Light Cooling Fan/Heatsink - Retail ZALMAN CNPS
  16. Hey you know what, there is actually a small mod I did create a short while back. I had a pair of 200W 3-Way Sony XPlod speakers and 2 Lite-On drive boxes (one DVD-ROM and the other DVD-/+RW). I took a pocket knife and cut holes out of the boxes and placed the speakers in them and ran some extra Pioneer wire out of them and hooked them up to a computer Altec Lansing BX3 Sub and using a Logitech Video game adapter hooked them up to my DVD Player. I also can k=hook them up to my PS/X N64 and Super Nintendo. I don't hook them up to the old CD Player Unit anymore. The DVD player is MUCH newer and

    Geforce 6600

there could be a sensor but the card manufacturer may have disabled it. I just read that 6600GT's (that's what I have) have them but most manufacturers disable them to discourage OC'ing. On the 6600GT you have to mod the BIOS (yes modding IS actually in here somewhere). I'll give you a link but if yours ain't a GT then it might not work. Here it is. Enabling Temperature Monitoring on the nVidia 6600GT If you want to Control your Clock speed that's easy just google Coolbits. It's a registry file that adds itself in and all you have to do is open the cards settings and voila. I'll go ahead and g
