  1. well I've fixed it. I replaced it with a Lite-On from Walmart. Even the autoplay works correctly unlike the one I bought for the main computer. i think that is an OS prob. Also remeber the CD-RW drive prob with it not opening right. well I moved it to the bottom and put the new DVD-ROM on top. Now the CD-RW has now probs opening. Go figure. * scratch the part about the CD-RW it just doesn't have quite as much trouble but still jams a little.
  2. I've even updated the firmware. But would it still be able to read cd-rom and audio cds?
  3. Also yes I have restarted the system, like 5 times.
  4. still I don't recomend trying to run PS with 256MB anyway. I highly suggest an upgrade. There is dell at my school with 256MB of RAM but has a 3GHz P4 with HT and it doesn't have a whole lot of stuff runnin on it (mostly cause I cleared it all out) yet it is still the slowest computer I have ever delt with. My old 233MHz K6 Compaq with 32MB of ram and integrated everything responds faster (Win98SE) than that dell piece of crap (WinXP Pro SP2) in opening IE. Of course I could be exagerating but my old athlon XP 2000+ system with 256MB of definately responds faster (Win2KPro Origianlly then Chan
  5. I don't think it's vanishing I think it's just getting used up. Have you installed anything recently? Even then 512MB would keep you runnin good. If you were runnin fine up until now on 256 addin 512 ought to make your system stretch it's legs out big time.
  6. since some these are all email accounts you can use from other computers, have you tried sending emails form other computers on those accounts?
  7. ahh see the only computers I've seen do it though were HP's and Compaq's. I don't think the one I built is set to do that, then again I'm sure if I tried.
  8. are you running FF and paint while trying to open photoshop? Also I've always heard Photoshop was a memory hog anyway. You may just want to scrounge up a buck or 2 for some ram. You can get 512MB of PQI Power memory for like 40 bucks off of newegg.com.
  9. It don't really hurt to do either (except like I said bearings and I also forgot to mention your hard drive has bearings too but thats a big DUH) I just say turn it off to save a few bucks. My reasons for turning all mine off. The main system: covered up in blue LED fans. It's in the den. The dog sleeps in the den. nuff said. The compaq: not exactly the quietest computer. It's in my room. That's where I sleep. nuff said.
  10. Skinning (First in creating 3D images in games an movies is modeling then skinning the model.
  11. Well like the title says it stopped reading DVD's but it still reads CD-ROM. I was trying to play Colin McRae Rally 2005 but the game told me to insert the disc, well it was in. Well just for the heck of it, I put in a movie and it couldn't read it either. What would cause this. By the way it's on my Compaq the drive is a Samsung DVD-ROM SD-616Q By the way my CD-RW has a strange prob where I have to try a few times before it'll open when there is no disc, it opens fine when there is a disc though. No biggy just slightly annoying.
  12. Great Pics man love the Hyundai one. actually the S2K pic is wrong. the F22C engine that replaced the F20C in America a few years ago has a crapload more low end torque. The japanese ones kept the F20C. Up until now though. The F20C Just didn't have enough low-end torque to be a feasible daily driver.
  13. I've heard both sides of this argument and I think you should turn it off. Wrap your mind around this. When you leave the system on you do have mechanical things going......Fans. They have bearings in them that can go bad. The other side of the argument is heat stress. Well the average life span of components a lot of time is longer than the usefulness of the computer. Say a CPU, it's usually about 10 years or so. Yeah, we trashed an 8 year old computer not too long ago (proper recycling place of course). Plus when you leave it on you are running your electric bill real good cause computers su
  14. ya know what my Compaq in my room, if ya hit the power button (not hold it down) and it will go through the shutdown sequence. The HP's and Compaqs at school do the same thing.
  15. Ahhh the Ultra X-Connect. Don't much care for it. I don't like the detachable connections cause that's another place for failure to occure. Now I'd love to have this one. Aspire See-Through 500W This would blow my friends' minds. P.S. Have you noticed we are pretty much the only 3 active in the modding section.
  16. Has anyone even listened to me. I've actually done this and have already had a thread on it. For your reference: My experience with 1 CD and 2 Keys
  17. with early relationships don't get too attached. If you ever get a girlfriend, after dating her for a year or 2 then maybe. I was prepared for the inevitable with my last girlfriend. I knew It wasn't gonna last but I think she is startin to regret breakin up with me. She did the "lets be friends" crap too but we kinda had to when we work at the same place.
  18. I say screw the Korean cars they'll fall apart before lap 20. Honda would be an awesome competitor if they let each company use whatever motor they wanted within certain limits of course. They restrict to much though. they can only be carborated V8's. Honda has some gnarly V8's for indy and F1. I only expect to see nissan and honda enter along with toyota, but hey they are american too. My 95 Civic EX Coupe was built in America. The VIN even starts with 1. (1-US, 2-Canada, 3-Mexico ahem* Mom's PT Cruiser*, J-errr DUH, 4-I think also Canada). They also manufacture nissans not too far from here
  19. stress and frustration...........................crap We talked about in Psychology class today that also included conflict
  20. yeah it sounds like it isn't detecting them properly. did this start when the new cable was put in or was the new cable put in to correct it?
  21. make sure the IDE cables are connected to the motherboard correctly, maybe try another IDE cable , also does windows still show the drives when you open up My Computer. I mean like It says D:, E:, A:, etc?
