  1. Your using onboard graphics that shares memory with the RAM. You didn't tell us how much actual RAM the machine has but first off maxing out the RAM may be a big and only help. Also when you say you have lag what is lagging is the screen jittery or freezing with lots jaggies?
  2. Your going to love the Macbook Pro... sweet machine, my friend just bought one it's his first Mac.
  3. Just letting any Mac users or future Mac users know that OS 10.5 Leopard will be available Friday 6pm. The new OS looks great Apple says 300+ new features . I like the new finders cover flow feature and stacks, oh and quick look. Video Tour here
  4. Being a Red Sox fan I'm not allowed to say anything nice about the Yankees... but they did a lot better then the Mets.
  5. I'm sure someone would want that little portable, I guess portable is subjective. I've had a Mac Plus in my closet forever... don't know why.
  6. Wow, a 20 year old apple. When I need answers to Apple history questions there is one place to go Low End Mac. If you can get it to boot, pat yourself on the back, shut it down and forget it ever happened If you do get it to boot I think there should be a control strip that will have the system profiler in it, this should have all your info.
  7. This shouldn't be happening these days "stating the obvious". Does the DVD play fine on your PC? Have you tried playing the DVD on a different player?
  8. I agree with CurlingSteve it seems like a very simple thing to do as long as you have the hardware. And no need to buy a mac my guess is once it's written this type of thing could be done on pretty much anything even a smart phone.
  9. The problem with storing all your data on a large drive is if it fails your out of luck. The best is to store on a raid set up there are plenty of systems that you just plug in an they do all the work, and if one of the drives dies you just replace it and it all gets restored. This is pretty expensive though. Or burn your movies to DL DVD's This is what I just started to do for long term back-up. Also if the Blueray / HD battle ever gets settled we could be storing everything on these disc. Of course whatever you choose in 5 years there will always be something better and cheaper.
  10. I seen survivor man use parts of a camera, lens or battery I don't remember but he used it to start a fire. But then again if your a lost tourist you would probably have a camera. The other show should be called "man man man man helicopter vs. wild".
  11. I just checked I still have my old iLife 06 dvd. If you need it or just want to have a newer version in case she still has 04 or 05 I can send it to you. I was also just thinking about having trouble moving the user directory. She may have file vault turned on, this is a auto encryption like true-crypt if turned on it may cause errors trying to move it and could cause problems putting the data back on a new os. You can disable File Vault in system preferences > security. Also do a repair permissions just in case you can do it in the terminal or use Disk utility.
  12. All mac have firewire sense the 400mhz imac g3. If the ilife apps came with the imac "I'm sure it did" you can reinstall from the original disk. To make things easier you may want to just archive and install. This will replace the os completely and keep all the apps and data safe, and it's easy to do. I know a lot of people like to do clean installs because of disk fragments but the archive and install will put the os all together and os x auto defrages all files under 20mb on the fly.
  13. In case there are any Mac users reading this. Most any app that displays text can be read and there are apple scripts that will turn the text into aac file and sync to itunes and your ipod. But the voices get on your nerves pretty quick.
  14. According to Engadge the ipod touch has started shipping. People have been getting them in today and they have started to show up at a few Apple stores. Pictures of the touch being unboxed from Appleinsider. Looks pretty thin.
  15. You can do a archive and install that will make a backup of all users data, preferences and settings then rip out the old os and replace it with the new one. When you start up everything should be working with the new os. If there is something missing there is a folder called something like old system that has the original data. If everything is fine the folder can be deleted. But a good clean install is what I do. I just drag the user folder to a external hard drive and format and install. Then drag the user folder back to the new system. This works great and you have a good backup of everyth
  16. Please don't turn this into apple bashing thread. The BT staff and regulars show great respect for members and friends of these forums and there opinions. We all have different opinions and taste.
  17. I feel the same way. Technology gets cheaper and/or better every few months. But a $200 cut is almost unheard of when a product is still in the limelight. And you know people will use that $100 to help pay for that new Nano.
  18. It looks like steve Jobs released the new iApology. read my BT blog post. He apologized and offered a $100 gift certificate to anyone that bought a iPhone. Win Win for apple.
  19. I really want the ipod touch but I have a video ipod and a couple of shuffles. It's funny how two days ago my sleek black 30 gig video ipod was so cool and now it looks so old.

    My Project

I have a 4 liter ranger that is plenty capable of hauling quite a bit weight up any hill. The 4.0 has over 200hp and over 230 ft/lbs of toque. The I4 and 3.0 V6 use the same auto transmission that shifts way to early and need to be downshifted to climb hills. But with the manual transmissions they really do pretty well.
  21. I figure he has had this setup for weeks now. I didn't notice this post until a week after it was posted, I apologize for that. It doesn't really matter what he chose when he did the initial set up they ask mainly to register the mac and applecare. The mac will connect to whatever is available if he plugs in a ethernet cable it will just use that if a wifi shows up and the airport is on it will ask for a password (if needed). The "control panel" equivalent is called System Preferences and for manual network settings click on Network.
  22. Congratulations sweet machine. I just picked up a 20". There is nothing to worry about messing anything up. I would suggest first thing to do is open system preferences and set up your mouse. Then maybe check your display preferences I didn't like the imac profile and am using the adobe RGB setting. Then play with the other preferences to see what they do. Next click on the apple and set the Dock preferences put it where it's best for you. Remember all app on the mac no matter who makes them has the same menus in the same place. All app preferences can be found by clicking on the app name. D
  23. I actually like the third one the best, but it obvious I'm a minority. The first one does pop when you first look at it, good first impression. The only thing like about the second one is the binary in the sun.
  24. Here are a few more to look at. Pixen or this may be more what your looking for GIFun
  25. When you say Blinkies do you mean the animated gif's, like the annoying banners people use on Myspace or vector type animation that exports into a video format? Pencil works pretty good and not too hard to learn.
