Is she getting it from Apple online store. Macworld starts tuesday and there may be some updates and if there are her mac will come with them. Crucial RAM is great very good company. I buy my RAM from OWC they specialize in Apple and if you update your RAM they will usually buy your old RAM. And 1 gig is fine I'm using my 4 year old powerbook 133Ghz PPC processor with 768 Mb with leopard and is very snappy. And be carefull of the Mac fanboy thing, it starts with being confused, then actually enjoying using the mac next your shopping for a black turtleneck Almost forgot every mac user has to v

And you don't need to install any software on the macbook, comes with everything installed. If you want to administrate the airport from windows you will have to install airport software on your PC. The only thing you really do is open the airport utility, follow the extremely simple setup, choose a password. You can also plug in a usb printer to the base station and all computers on the network can print to it. If you want to do advance configurations just click manual set up. This part of the reason Mac users get the reputation for being tech dummies. You can setup complicated network and

Did anyone every get one of those manuals that you swear needed a manual just to figure out how to use the manual? How about using something for a good period of time, then you look something up in the manual and find that the device has a feature or two you didn't know it had? JDoor, yea, though it was time for a new avatar and though of the Mac guy.

Don't have to tell me about old computers. I have a old Mac Plus vintage 1988 boots off a floppy and somewhere I may still have a Atari 1200XL.

Ok... I'll admit it, I recently bought a Chia-pet, the Sylvester and tweety one with the fast growing cat grass. When I went to Rite-aid to get it there was only one left, the girl said they're very popular gifts for people with cats, thats what I used it for. And you never know when a tree is going to fall on you while your filleting a fish

That would be a killer laptop but it's a tower, and a mortgage.

I know Mac followers are few and far between but even if your not a fan of Apple you got to check out the newest Mac Pro. It is available with 8 core Xeon running 3.2Ghz using Intels new 45nm chip, up to 32Gb of RAM as much as 4Tb of hard drive space and a whole bunch of other goodies. What gets me is that a year from now this will be just another computer.

Don't expect much, the old imac and os 9 are very much part of Apple history but both the G3 PPC processor and the operating system have been abandoned some time ago. OS 9 and OS X are two different operating systems unlike Windows 95 and Vista that although very different, still share many of the characteristics and DNA. OS X has no ties to OS 9 and earlier OS's it is Unix based and was brought to Apple along with Steve Jobs from NexT computer.

I'm really hoping that these are not true...

The imac will work fine, you might even be able to run os x on it although painfully slow. os 9 will run very well on it and it will surf, e-mail and run old apps just fine. The Quadra is best used as a doorstop. If it runs you can always use it to remind yourself how far we have come.

Need Some Tips On Website Security
isteve replied to Honda_Boy's topic in Windows 10, 8, 7, Vista, and XP
VBulletin has been a easy mark for a "Inlinemod.PHP SQL Injection" exploit in the past. The older version was so easy to access it was just a matter of typing some code into the login. Like Matt said just keep the software up to date. -
I've played with minis at the Apple store they seem pretty snappy. I've heard that a lot of people like to boot their mini from a firewire drive and use the internal drive for storage. They say it makes it faster, I kind of doubt it make that big a difference for most everyday tasks. The mini hasn't had any big updates in a long time, it did get a processor update I think this past fall but I can see a hard drive update coming soon.

Rebuilding the desktop is long gone with os 9. You can still Zap the PRAM by holding down Command+Option+P+R at startup. Even better download a utility called Applejack that runs in single user mode, (doesn't work on 10.5 yet.)

Get one of each... just kidding. Macworld starts in two weeks go with the one gets the update then you'll feel you got the latest greatest. As you can tell I'm not going to be much help my plan for the last year and a half was to upgrade from my 12" powerbook to a macbook, some how I ended up with a Aluminum iMac (loving it). I do think either computer will get the job done with no complaints. If you are planning on a second display then the Macbook Pro may get the advantage of being both a portable and a desktop. Wait for macworld for whatever you decide, my guess is some modest upgrades t

Just to let you know you don't need to buy a apple airport your mac will work with any router. I have both a extreme and a express. They both also work as a print servers. The extreme is a N router and you can plug any usb hard drive in and use as a NAS drive. And the extreme has a much larger range then the express, I actual turn the signal strength down because it was reaching two houses away and interfering with my neighbors wifi. If you decide on a airport check the Apple online store for refurbished unites, usually the express goes for $79 and the extreme around $169.

Marty, believe me I'm not rich by any stretch. I buy my Mac's because I got lucky with Apple stock. Back when Steve Jobs announced the iPod I bought $500 worth of Apple stock at just under $10 a share with my income tax return money. I sell the stock to buy my Macs. Next month I sell some more for a new Macbook and that leaves me with just 5 shares left.

I recently tossed out a old Digital with a 486 that was running BeOS. I remember when BeOS was going to be the future now it's just a distant memory.

Well dug the Mac Plus out of the attic. I think it's a 1988 Mac, I got it around 93 or 94.

Yea.. I notice that and decided not to change it, I should have wrote Donationware. I always donate if I use someone's freeware and they have a paypal donation button on their site.

Just imagine how underpowered today spec will look like in 2018.

If you decide on the Mac wait a few weeks Macworld Expo starts January 14. Could be introducing new laptops or updates to the lineup. I'm ordering a new macbook right after Steve's keynote, new laptops or not.

I'm a huge online shopper. Amazon, Musician Friend, Moss Motors and Ebay those four alone keep my paypal account busy. I also buy plenty of software and freeware online. I make it a point never to carry a balance interest fees are crazy.
