  1. I did the same, bought a PRO 63 for $40 less then a SM57 for micing my amp. It's every bit as solid and sounds great.
  2. I had some Philips USA noise canceling earbuds that sounded great and were inexpensive but lost them. For recording I'm using some older Audio-Technica's. I just bought a Macbook last week so it will be a while before I get new headphones but the Philips will be the first I look at being made in the states is a plus. Thanks for the info.
  3. I would wait before jumping on the band wagon until other people try it. The music is being paid for by selling advertising I know there will be popup ads in the client, but besides the songs being able to be tracked will the songs contain ads. And if you uninstall the client will the songs stop working.
  4. Actually there has never been any virus outbreaks on os x. There has been hundreds or holes found and quite a few exploits written. The problem is that to get most of these someone has to have physical access to the mac and have a admin password to install them. There were buffer overflow exploit that would freeze up your browser if you surfed to them. And there is a trojan that will download automatically and change your DNS settings. But you have to install it then give it a admin password. The last one may have been patched in a recent update. Like windows if you keep everything up to date
  5. I got to go to the Bose plant a few years ago. They actually do some really cool stuff there and have some great engineers. Of course great engineering doesn't always make it past marketing. I do like the quiet comfort headphones and they would be a good deal if they were half the price.
  6. Upload is some of it but Youtube also encodes every video to h.264 and flash. Not to mention they get thousands of videos a minute. And I know they had a paid service that let you post longer videos.
  7. Many are things you will never see but will make a big differences in the future like core graphics. Some are like dictionary now searches wikipedia or desktop sharing, back to my mac, spaces. I still find new things every once in a while nothing big but useful.
  8. You can use any display you don't need a apple display. But the iMacs are really nice and plenty fast.
  9. itunes does video, movies, tv shows, audio, podcast, audio books even PDFs. And lets you put them all in playlist.
  10. And my neighbor thinks his new Polaris is the coolest thing on snow.
  11. Oh, almost forgot congratulations on the Macbook Pro, when you jump in you really jump in the deep end
  12. Agree no anti-virus needed at this time. If you create a different user account without admin privileges your golden. There is one worm for os x but you have to download the worm and install it using a password. iTunes is the way to go, does everything you need to and you can use that remote that came with your mac to control front row that is integrated with itunes and iphoto. Play around with itunes it is very powerful even though it seems simple. Check out the smart playlist feature, someone was really thinking. And the webcam "isight" works with photo booth and even does a green screen thi
  13. My guess is that the USB is stored on hardware maybe PRAM, because it loads before the operating system loads. Of course to boot from the optical drive or single user your going to need the keyboard. The only thing you can do is try the battery. Dose the cube have any PCI slots?
  14. I suppose it could be if it's mounted as a disk but I don't think either are good solutions. For short term backup it would be ok. But time machine should have it's own drive to be really useful.
  15. I heard that on macbreak weekly also this weeks episode was really good. I tried a few different youtube utilities in the past that kept getting broken when youtube would change things. My never fail way of downloading YT vids is in safari click Window> Activity and double clicking the youtube video (you can tell the video by the size) and it will download to your desktop. But I think I'll give tooble a try got to be easier.
  16. Is Burn the one with UI that smokes as the disk is being burned? I just use os x for burning on my macbook and I have Toast on my iMac. You can also burn a iso from the terminal using the command hdiutil burn (disk name).iso. Of course the file has to be in the same directory.
  17. Option-shift-K, Like your avatar and welcome. I'm mainly a safari user but another good browser Mac or PC is Flock. Also very popular browser for mac is OmniWeb.
  18. There was a night time tv show that did episode based on this story. I can't remember the name of the show, it centers around two plastic surgeons .
  19. I'm beginning to hate snow. This winter we had record cold, eight snow storms, short warm spells temp above 70 and it's 22 right now... No snow for me today.
  20. My drummer has a hart dynamics kit great for recording. We just make cd's to give out at shows although haven't played out in a long while. The multimix has 4 pre amped ins and 4 stereo line in's more then enough for me. I don't use the mixer Fx for recording I have plenty of great AU's.
  21. I also have a ART tube pre. I mainly use a Alesis Multimix 8 FW with my iMac and a Presonus Inspire for portable recording with my powerbook. I mainly use Garageband and just recently started using Logic Express. before Garageband I was a bias deck user. I should have bought Logic Pro, have you tried it yet I can not believe what you get with the pro version for the price. I just bought a cool Zoom H2 handheld digital recorder that I think would be great for podcasters, works as a Mic/interface also.
  22. USB and Firewire digital audio interfaces have very good mic-pres and you can find them cheaper then motu units. Also most come with DAWs usually cubase. And the mic you recommended was a condenser mic. This is a very old question I'm guessing he is a old pro by now. Do you do home recording podcaster / musician?
  23. I replaced the power supply on my 32" sharp aquos. Nothing much inside a couple of small circuit boards "neatly placed", power supply, sealed screen and a bunch of plastic and very few wires.
  24. Never let the truth get in the way of a good story.
  25. Because you said you reinstalled I'm guessing you have the latest versions of Fire and yahoo messenger. So first i would try using them in a different account. Next do a search for their preferences they should have yahoo in them and end in .plist and .cs they will be in your preferences folder. When you find them put them in the trash and open yahoo it should work, these files may not have got deleted when you uninstalled.
