My very first computer experience was with XP. I was a late bloomer.

can you do this instead? -->> CABLE MODEM ------->> Voice Terminal/Router #1 ------------------------------------->> WIRELESS ROUTER ------------------------------------->> ROUTER #2 ---------------------------------------------------->>COMPUTER #1 (VISTA) ---------------------------------------------------->>COMPUTER #2 (XP) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------>> LAPTOP You will have to turn router #2 into switch mode(this usually can be done through the web config), then let your wireless router do all

Last weekend I got my vegetable and flower garden planted. I am happy to have accomplished something on my house. I got my sheetrock roughed in. It is all ready to mud and tape.

You can run both of those commands as regular user. lspci is in the /sbin directory so you have to type the full path. Dmesg is in the directory /bin

since you have ghost, you are probably set. I was just reading about this program on an other forum. People were saying good stuff about it. http://www.runtime.org/dixml.htm -
are you really 99? Happy Birthday Nerelda :-)

the mac mini comes with a "dvi to vga" converter. This will allow you to use any regular computer monitor. I suppose you could get a usb mouse and usb key board both for about $20($10 each).

It is probably there, just hidden. You can start it using this command avggui I found that info in the avg manual http://free3.grisoft.cz/softw/70free/doc/a...uma_en_71_3.pdf

Thanks for the suggestions. as mentioned in the gentoo wiki, I am going to add this line to my xorg.conf Option "OffTime" "20" I think without this line, it must use a default or what I have set with my gnome screen saver. Maybe this will override it

I have my linux box set to blank out my monitor after 40 minutes. I have noticed that over the past few weeks it does not always turn off. While walking to the bathroom in the middle of the night my desktop is still sometimes showing. I get the impression some process is misbehaving and not allowing my system to power down the monitor. Any ideas to what might be causing the monitor not to power off? I am going to log off tonight and see if that helps. Since logging off should kill all of the processes that belong to "shane", I may be able to determine it it is a system process. That in itsel

I am trying to understand what you did. Why would you have to disable avast to install ubuntu?

Is that kurt cobain? I am a big nirvana fan. I love his all acoustic album, "unplugged in new york"

a friend of mine has gotten three Samsungs from newegg. He has not gotten a dead pixel yet.

A clean install can do wonders. Sometimes it is easier to reload your system then to try and fix a specific problem. A reload also will speed things up.

I wonder how many shops do work like that, or if most just say, "Replace the mobo". I get the impression bad capacitors cause many motherboards to fail to boot. I wonder how easy it is to test individulal ones.

So girls in swim suits are bad? Maybe I don't remember what was posted, from what I recall, nothing was more obscene then that found in the magazine "Cosmopolitan" . I thought we were doing a good job about keeping it clean.

I back TT's opinion. That definitely sounds like a bad motherboard.

From what I read, you may be able to use this module(driver), ne2k-pci, for the realtek card. Try the code below, it will load your module(driver) sudo modprobe ne2k-pci then try the following command to restart your networking sudo /etc/init.d/networking restart you can check if you got an ip address with the following command /sbin/ifconfig
-
is it the realtek 8139? You should already have support(driver) installed. I am not really sure on the kde way to configure the network. What does this command show for output /sbin/ifconfig

if I could just buy the episodes I wanted at a reasonable price and good resolution, I would be happy to do that. I think it is just a matter of time before that is the standard way to watch tv.

1. what happens if you choose r-click and view wireless networks? 2. Did you hook up an antenna? 3. According to the device manager, does it say it is installed?

Let's see, $15 a mo. into $250-80... Sounds like you could pay for one in a year and a half. We bought a new Toshiba for $270 (shipped) off E-Bay two years ago. We LOVE it! It's like our cable modem, $3.50 a month to rent it... I bought mine for $80 and got a $50 rebate, 5-6 years ago. They kinda pay for themselves compared to renting. Is that a toshiba dvr? I was kind of thinking about building a dvr unit.

A dual core chip is like having two processors instead of one. That is giving you a huge performance gain. My understanding is the x2 4200 has the same processing power as two single core Athlon 64 3800s. As to the heat sink and fan. I would recommend getting a retail box. This includes both. The retail fan and keatsink also support Quiet and Cool edit added later// I just noticed newegg does not have any retail boxes of any 939 x2 procs. edit added later// I just asked my friend. He said the stock heatsink that came with the 64 3000+ is ok to use with an athlon x2 4200. He said they may have

what does the output of this command show. This should tell the chipset of your ethernet card /usr/sbin/lspci | grep -i ethernet

Or just buy a new mother board :-) I am just giving you a hard time. I am sure you were do for a new toy.
