I would be interested also on what people have to say about this. I personally think a router that does stateful packet inspection is secure. This is all I use to protect my home network, but maybe mine is insecure.

slackware 9.0 was the second version of linux I used. If nothing else, slackware taught me how to configure X. With version 9, you had to configure it yourself(maybe it is still that way). edit added later// I just read, this is the first version of Slackware to use a default 2.6 kernel, WOW.

Setting Up A Windows Network
shanenin replied to bobeverywhere's topic in Windows 10, 8, 7, Vista, and XP
sometimes ip addresses can change. You can also use machine name in its place \\machine_name\mysharedstuff -
I love the microwave, but use the stove top all the time. How do you sautee stuff? Even something as basic as fried potatos needs a flame and oil.

I like it. I has Tested it on both SATA and IDE drives. It seems to work really well. I like the design also, it looks cool :-)

I think your easier route would be to get a linux compatible wifi adapter. check out this link, it has some good info about compatible wifi adapters http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=367917 from what I read, this chipset is natively supported with ubuntu http://ralink.rapla.net/

I got my first Vista Machine with a malware problem. I think it had a virtumondo infection. As soon as it booted, it was getting winantivurs popups, among others. Then explorer would crash and restart repeatedly. With explorer crashing I was not able to run vundofix(not even sure it works with vista). I tried to boot in safe mode, but that kept failing. So I recommended a reload. Even with Vista's extra security, it can't stop people from installing crap. I don't see business dropping off anytime soon.

did you format the computer before reloading it? I would check the process tab in the task manager. If you click on memory usage, it will resort the process by memory used. It should show you what process it using all the memory. It sounds like a defective program.

it won't prompt you at all. I was just showing you how to set an empty password. Once that is done, you will not be prompted again(assuming you don't have a windows password set) If you use a windows password, you could probably just set it with the smbpasswd command I showed you above to match it. I have never tried it. This method above is for logging into a Linux samba server from a Windows Client. If you want to log into a Windows server from a Linux client, you can just save the username and password in your fstab file like this //ntserver/docs /mnt/samba smbfs username=docsadm, passwo
