  1. I am not sure what happen if you upload a file to UploadMalware.com. Do they contact you about it, and give you an opinion on its status?
  2. as a former agnostic, I also like to give God credit :-)
  3. that is still some decent Milk Money.
  4. Good for you :-) Now I need one of those jobs. It takes me about 1100/month just to break even. $1000 of that cost is just my monthly payments for my two yellow pages phone book ads. I have another $100/ month that pays for telephone and credit card processing(which I don't really use). If all goes well, I am left with about $600-$1000/month to pay all of my family expenses.
  5. thats reasonable. Did you get the job?
  6. I have always told clients that they usually got infected by agreeing to and installing a bad program/executable. I have been hesitant to believe simply going to a website without manually installing anything could cause a problem. How does a drive by install work? Do these only work on unpatched(no service packs) computers? edit added later// Doesn't windows always prompt you before any install is initiated?
  7. Spyware Sweeper is a bad program, do not use it. On the other hand Spy Sweeper is a very good and respected program, but it is not free. (Edited to remove link to rogue product)
  8. I knew you meant figuratively, I was just trying to be funny. It is twisted in a very literal sence
  9. Do you mean that literally or figuratively?
  10. Have you taken a look at your C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts file? You may see a suspicious enty in it Mine is just the default # Copyright (c) 1993-1999 Microsoft Corp. # # This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows. # # This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each # entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should # be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name. # The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one # space. # # Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted

All operating systems need to set up a space(partition) to install on the harddrive, Windows asks you to partition also, not just Linux.

    Gas Milage

The Kia has been good to us. It had a lock mechanism jam up several years ago, they fixed it. Other then that, not one repair. I would buy another one. My only concern is the safety of driving my family in such a small car. The small Kia against an SUV would not be a pretty sight(hopefully the family would be ok) :-( edit added later// We have a hard 60000 city miles. For all we know, it may have got the better milage one year later, we never checked. My wife was feeling that we were losing millage, so we decided to check. Boy were we surprised.

    Gas Milage

We bought a brand new kia rio in 2001(just $8000, with 5 year bumper to bumper, 10 year power train). It was rated at 27city and 33highway. We checked the milage for the first month, and got about the same as it was rated. Recently(5 years later) we checked the mileage again. We are now getting about 33city and 39highway. This is about 6 miles more then it was rated. Is it typical for a car to gain that much better mileage with the engine being wore in. What else could cause the great mileage? For what its worth, we slack on our maintenance.
  15. What kind of prices do you charge? I tend to under price myself, but I hate to lose a job. For data recovery and a reload I charge $95, $20(data), $75(reload). You could get a mother board from newegg for about $60, I would mark it up to just $80, including installation, then make most of the money on the load and data recovery. According to Minnesota law, their is not any sales tax charges on it because it is a repair job. $75 reload $20 data recovery $80 motherboard -------- $175 To make the deal go, I would offer a warranty on the mobo. Newegg will replace most all boards for 1 year withou
  16. what is the new mother board you want to use? I have used this one in builds before. It worked nice. I have had good luck with biostar If you are looking to save a few dollars, this one might be ok. It seems to be newer, and does not have much feedback.
  17. Did you make a mistake on your post, you showed the same board on both links. Did you try a new power supply? The mother board sounds dead, but until you rule out the PSU, I would not feel confident in the diagnosis. While at it, I would try swapping out the memory. I would also disconnect all the stuff not needed to post. edit added later// I am pretty certain I have told clients that they had a bad mobo(most techs have make that mistake), when it really was not the case. It can be a tough diagnosis, since many other factors can give that appearance.
  18. "no sleep till Brooklyn" "the new style" Beastie Boys
  19. The quick format is just fine. Do you have a driver disc that came with the computer? What model is the computer? You can download the driver with the computer you are using then copy the file to the computer you need to install it on.
  20. Did windows install this time without any errors? As to your Lan problem, you may need to install the driver for your ethernet adapter. Open the "device manager", and check for devices that are not installed. Any problem or uninstalled devices will have yellow by them.
  21. I would definitely try it again. you may want to clean the disc. If you have two optical drives, you may have better luck using the other.
  22. Read errors are common during reloads. Did it get past that point?
  23. is their an option to restore deleted files? Most programs like that have that option.
