  1. As to your question, you can't revert back to XP after upgrading to Vista. If it was me I would set up a dual boot system, this is how I have my work laptop setup. This would give you the option to boot either Vista or XP. You would need a place to store your important data like music and pictures somewhere temporarily while making the change. another computer, dvd, or harddrive would work for this. To use this method, you would need to have an OEM copy of vista, instead of an upgrade version. If you already have an upgrade version, you can use this method to do a clean install. I have done t
  2. That may be an easier solution then rewriting the webpage. I will check into that.
  3. The PHP code is what I am looking for. I will pass that info on to him. Thanks for everyones input :-)
  4. I have a friend who is getting harassing messages from a person. They are using this contact page. My understanding of web design is pretty week. Is their any way he could determine who, or maybe the ip of the computer that is filling out this form? I was hesitant to post the contact page, but since this is a public web site, it seems acceptable
  5. I suppose a program(or msconfig) to disable startup programs would be very helpful. You could also use belarc adviser to get her key, then use her install cds with that.
  6. It may be worth reloading it again. After a clean reload, see if you can make the changes to the processes. Then see if installing drivers of software seems to cause the problem again(keep testing it after each change to the computer is made).
  7. For what its worth, I did a test on my computer. I have UAC on but can still change the properties on all processes owned by me. Since they are owned by myself, I do not even get prompted for an Admin password.
  8. That sounds like it may be a setting to do with the mouse pad. I suspect he is lightly brushing it. You may want to install the mousepad drivers(synaptic).
  9. you need to search for a cmos battery http://search.ebay.com/search/search.dll?s...earch&fgtp=
  10. Thanks. That is something I will recommend to my clients. I get nero 7 with alot of my dvd burners, but hate it. I would be more inclined(but won't) to stick a pirated version of nero 6 on systems. This program sounds like a great alternative. By the way, does he also have a paid version?
  11. A setting change would be nice, but a third party app would also be good. Thanks for the suggestion.
  12. I am often backing up whole directories, for example, "documents and settings". I will typically get one file that won't copy for various reasons, usually do to permissions. When that happens the whole copy call stops. I would like the copy call to keep copying files, even if it fails on one file. Any suggestions?
  13. I couldn't imagine not having a computer hooked up to my tv. We put all of our owned DVDs amoung other media for easy access. My friend has an array with over 6 Tbs of media using windows raid 5. He is upgrading it soon to 11tbs using raid6. I will never run out of media to watch
  14. The media center pc is also configured to record live tv and play it back. In your case that is not at all needed. Just playing back media is much simpler to do. The p4 system you will be using should be fine for most media, with exception to some hi-def media
  15. To keep it simple, any computer with a video card that supports widescreen should work. I used a sempron 2200 system for just this for a long time. That was enough power with exception to some high-def media(for example .mkv). For the video, all you need to do is connect it to the computer with a vga or dvi input on the tv. For the audio use the audio out on the computer to audio in on the tv. You may need to get an adapter to make the connection. After the tv is hooked up, just use "Winodws Media Player" or "VLC" to watch your media. I use a cordless keyboard which has a built in mouse. This
  16. With all the problems you are having, you need to reinstall your OS. Your drive may be failing, but not for sure. I would recommend doing a slow format when you reload the system. The slow format will check for bad sectors and if found not use them.
  17. I found this removal tool. I wonder if it does as good or better job as smitfraudfix does on XP. it also apears to remove some vundo infections(winantivirus pro).
  18. That link looks interesting. If I get some time, I may try and experiment with it. I have a client who wants to buy a computer form me, but asked if it had a "restore feature" like his HP computer. I told him I could do it. I was going to use acronis, but if I can do it for free, that would be better.
  19. I would use Acronis True Image to make a backup image of your drive. Then just place this image on the other partition. As JSKY said, if you get some sort of major problem, you can restore to a previous image in just a few mouse clicks.
  20. I think you would get much better gains in game performance with a video card. 1 gb of ram with XP is pretty good.
