  1. I personally can't see spending so much an something that will depreciate so much. what can a $1600 laptop do much better then a good $600 one. Besides depreciation, I would be worried it would get stolen or dropped. Did I read it comes standard with a 3 year warranty, without that I would not even considerer anything so expensive.
  2. Not that I am aware of. Why do you need to disable it, just use the usb instead.
  3. I love it :-) Sometimes we make things so hard.
  4. I have been there :-) A good night of sleep can do wonders.
  5. I don't use an outgoing firewall. If I use an anti-virus, I choose AVG because you don't have to register to install it.
  6. Wow. i did not notice that. why would they do something so crazy edit added// from a quick search, it seems to be designed that way for the antenna. Even so that seems not necessary http://forums.lenovo.com/lnv/board/message...;thread.id=1718
  7. Since my machine was loaded with vista, I was able to use the option listed in this document. I have not fully went through with it(still need to backup), but it appeared like it was going to work. Did you find a work around that worked for you?
  8. I would set up a second account with the same server information. If the second account works, then transfer the emails from you current account to it.
  9. I noticed the past few times I booted my mini it has not chimed, should I be concerned?
  10. as to the recovery partition, did you try "ctrl F11"(I am assuming you did). The timing can be tough. I have had systems that would not go into the revocery console at first. Usually if I kept using that key combination at different times during boot up it works. If nothing elase, just hold down the ctrl, then just start tapping the F11 key. With dells, you may get a keyboard error if you press it to many times. On some dells, wait until the dell copy write line apears, then try the combination. The ironic thing, I have a newer dell in my shop that I am not able to get to go into activate the
  11. I am glad nobody bet me, I would have lost money :-) Since your cd is OEM, the only other thing that comes to mind is one is home and one is professional(the key and the disk). Other then that, I am lost. I don't know any reason it would not be excepting your key. Did you get an "8" and "B" mixed up while typing?
  12. Your not even able to install, so activating is the least of your problems. Put is your xp disk, then navigate to the i386 folder ,then look at the file called setupp.ini. If it is an oem, it will look like this. I would bet money it is NOT an OEM disk [Pid] ExtraData=786F687170637175716954806365EF Pid=76477OEM take a look at this article http://www.thetechguide.com/howto/setuppini.html
  13. That is the problem. You are trying to use a full version disk with a oem key. TT_75 found this article and posted about it previously. I have used this technique with windows 2000. It is a grey area, but I believe it is ok, so long as you are not using the same key on multiple computers. http://www.thetechguide.com/howto/setuppini.html
  14. according to the mac, the files system was ms-dos, I assumed that meant fat32(most external drives come that way). It turns out the drive is formatted ntfs. That was the problem.
  15. have a 500gb seagate drive formatted with fat32. I have this drive plugged into my macmini using firewire. I am running leopard. I am not able to write to it. I get a drive can't be modified error. Any ideas?
  16. What kind of XP disk is it? I have a hunch it is not a plain oem cd. Could it possibly be an upgrade or retail version? If it is, this will not work with an oem key. From what I remember, even the key that comes preinstalled with most oem computers(different then the COA key) WILL allow you to install, but will NOT allow you to activate.
  17. Sound like you have a spyware infection. You could start researching with google and find the tools to manually delete it or you could have a trained person that will walk you through the whole process. We have people with this web site who do that, free of charge :-) Below is a link to get you started http://www.besttechie.net/forums/How-To-Po...Log-t12175.html
  18. I have been done that procedure for over two years on tons of drives and never have got infected. Viruses can't just run by themselves. They are just sitting their dormant on the drive. The only reason they run on her computer is because their are registry entries that make it happen. The only two ways I could think you could possibly get infected would be to double click an infected file, or possibly autorun. In theory, if the drive is plugged in and has autorun enabled, it could possibly run a dormant piece of malware that is autorun aware. Temporarily disable autorun on all of your drives
  19. Where did you get the copy of XP? Are you using the same cd that came with the product key and jewel case?
  20. When you say "product id code" I am assuming you mean the "product key". It sounds as if the key you are using does not match the type of media you used to install.
  21. He uses it to store video files, movies and other stuff.
  22. My friend is upgrading his current 6 tb raid 5 media server(its full) to 12tbs(formatted space) using raid 6. He just ordered an $1100 raid card. He also has 24 750 gb drives to put in his Raid 6 array. In theory he can have two drives die, and still not lose any data. He also has one drive as a hot spare. When I met him, he was just 16 years old(4 years ago). His sisters played with my son. I new he was into computers, so I showed up to his house with knoppix cd. He thought linux was the coolest thing ever. We have been friends ever since. Back then he was running a slow 1.0ghz celeron syste
  23. Thanks for your help. After putting "margin: 0" in the body instead of the image it is now working. That must mean the margin I was seeing was not from the image, but from the body.
