If you want to restore it to the way it was when it left the factory, do the system recovery. This will delete all of your personal data, but the computer will run like new again(fast). this link was posted earlier in the thread. It will show you just what to do. To simplify it, just hold down the CTRL key while tapping the F11 key during bootup. Then it will start the recovery program and walk you through the rest of the process. http://www.goodells.net/dellrestore/fixes.htm

Its a great program, I have had great success with it. Thanks :-)

for vnc to work, you will need to open ports or your router/firewall for the computer you want to control. It may be easier to use a free program like logmein.

are these on the same home network?

I would guess the highest probability would be overheating. It could be a dust buildup, or maybe a bad fan. You should watch and listen to the computer with the side off. You may be able to tell if any of your fans are bad.

Deleting Files While Running In Memory
shanenin replied to shanenin's topic in Spyware/Adware Information
Next infected machine I come across, I will have to check that. -
I lately been interested in the process different spyware removal tools use to delete certain files. I noticed smitfraudfix has process.exe package with it. Do you think it just suspends the process, then uses delete on reboot? Combofix seems really powerful in deleting files running in memory. Do you guys have any idea on the mechanism it uses? I have seen in posts that you can specify specific files and folders using a text file called CFScript.txt . I am assuming that just tells combofix files the it needs to delete, is that correct?

Thanks for the suggestion.

I tried superantipyware on a different system today. After quarantining some items and rebooting, the system blue screened. What are the odds of this happening on two different systems in a row. If this happened to me two times in a row, you would think this would be happening to lots of people everywhere.

Anti Spyware/virus/adware Etc
shanenin replied to Bubba Bob's topic in Windows 10, 8, 7, Vista, and XP
I was kind of guilty of saying that. I was trying to stress that good surfing habits are more important then any anti-malware program. -
Thats interesting. Even with bad video, i would have thought the machine would have posted. I learned something new today. I wonder how many machines I have misdiagnosed in the past.

Yes you would need to purchase the cpu separately. Those boards I chose would work with the cpu, AMD dual core 4400+ 2.3 GHz processor, you mentioned purchasing. If you have a SATA harddrive, I think the Gigabyte board you mentioned would be a good choice. Please don't hesitate to ask more questions to clarify anything :-)

I think gigabyte makes good quality stuff. The only thing that may be a problem with that board is it only has one ide channel(like the majority of the new boards). Onless your hardrive is SATA, you will need two IDE channels, one for the optical drive and one for the harddrive. The following board may work for you. It has two weak points. One is it does not use pci express, it still uses agp. The onboard video chipset is kind of weak. If I use onboard myself, I like tho use one with an nvidia chipet. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16813138038 the following asus board may be

I tried superantispyware for the first time on a machine I was trying to clean. It found quite a bit of a files that were labled vundo(had mathichg 02s and 20s). I let it quarantine everything it found. I rebooted the system and it blue screened. I was not able to boot in regular mode Without it blue screening. It was a little unsettling. I recovered by booting in safe mode and returning all files from the quarantine back to the system. For what its worth, I used the program a second time, but only had it remove files running in memory.

Anti Spyware/virus/adware Etc
shanenin replied to Bubba Bob's topic in Windows 10, 8, 7, Vista, and XP
I fully agree, they all suck. I don't have any faith in them. Half of my computer business is cleaning computers of spyware that are "fully protected" with various anti-malware products. I am reluctant to sell any products in my shop. People will still get infected then quietly blame me for their problem and not call back for future business. If clients ask my advice I usually will recommend spyweeper with antivirus, but tell them it WILL miss stuff. I tell them the best thing they can do is not to install anything they find free on the web unless it is from a reputable company. You can have -
Since it is not even beeping, which means it is probably not posting, I would lean to a bad motherboard. Just for kicks check for leaky or bulging capacitors

(update) Possible Video Card Upgrade?
shanenin replied to intocomputing2's topic in Windows 10, 8, 7, Vista, and XP
I think I figured it out(with some friends help). Take notice of the circled chip. This is only on the pci version of the card(not on the pci express version). This must act as a bridge between the Radeon chipset(which requires pci-express) and the standard pci bus. This must emulate a pci-express bus. I would assume it is not very efficient(bus bound), but it seems to work -
Does "My Computer" open up if you choose it from the "start" menu

The root of the C: directory is not usually in your path by default. You need to have the file "Cdimage.exe" in a directory listed in your path. In the command window enter the following command. It will list all the directories in your path. Then just put the the file "Cdimage.exe in one of the directories listed. Then you can use the command that you mentioned in your post echo %path% You could also just use the absolute path like the following C:\Cdimage.exe -lVISTA_EN_DVD -m -u2 -bC:\Vista\boot\etfsboot.com C:\Vista\ C:\Vistax86.iso

I am still just selling new XP computers in my shop. Xp runs great on a dual core Athon with a GB or ram. Unless a customer requests Vista, I will probably keep selling XP till Microsft does not offer it anymore. By the way, If I purchase a quantity of OEM XP OSs, can I keep selling these with new computers after June 2008, the date Microsoft is officially quits selling the OS?

(update) Possible Video Card Upgrade?
shanenin replied to intocomputing2's topic in Windows 10, 8, 7, Vista, and XP
the picture they have listed, shows it as a "pci" card, along with newegg lisiting it as a "pci" card, along with all the customer reviews making references to it being "pci". Maybe it IS a "pci" card http://www.powercolor.com/eng/bigpic.asp?p.../image_a_xs.jpg -
