  1. Perhaps some more info about your PC and TV. If your PC has an S-Video out port and your tv has an S-Video in port, you could use something like this for video. Not sure about the sound, Ill keep looking around though. Matt
  2. LOL Wow a snake.. hmm I'm not sure if that's better than a worm or not..
  3. MattOrr, I moved your HJT log post to the HJT section. I created a post for it with your username in it. Any HJT analysis replies will be posted in that thread. I left this thread here as this may or may not be a malware infection. Matt
  4. Hey everybody. I just wanted to share with you all that I have just been accepted into ASAP: Alliance of Security Analysis Professionals. You've probably seen other members carying the ASAP banner within their signature or in other places (like the bottom of this forum). Well, just thought I'd share it with you all. For more information on ASAP check here. Matt
  5. The BIOS can normally be accessed when you start your computer. You may see a reference to "setup" when you turn your computer on. That's your opportunity to get into the BIOS. It usually requires the push of a function key, such as F10, to get access to it. That "F" key varies between computers. Sometimes it's the ESC key or DEL key.

  7. Perhaps the item you are looking for is actually called 'Show the Desktop'. This will minimize all windows when selected in the right-click context menu. You could also do <Windows Key> + M, that will do the same thing. Hope that helps. Matt
  8. Hey all. Yes, many of you will recall this list from G4. Mlegg was able to hook me up with the BB code of the thread there. All I really had to do was edit (whew boy did I edit, lol) it to work with our forums. The idea for this thread came to me while prowling around JSKY's site, I noticed he had the list up, and I thought it would be a good addition for here. Anyway, enjoy the links. If you feel something should be changed, added, or removed; or you just find an error or a dead link, drop a Mod, Admin, or Windows Expert a PM, and they can assist in fixing that. Enjoy! Matt

We are working on compiling a new list*** Please see here: http://www.besttechie.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=16104 Commonly Recommended Software, Links, and Tips Last Updated April 3, 2007. 10. I haven't really been following this thread, but I did notice a repair instll was mentioned. The knowlege base has a tutorial on how to do this (written by myself ). Located here. Just for future reference. I don't know if this will fix the problem, as I said I haven't really followed this thread, just wanted to throw it in here. Matt
  11. Ever wish you could make one of your computer's drives invisible to anyone snooping around on your system? Whether you have sensitive docs, pictures, or any other private data, this is one of the easiest ways to keep them safe. Keep in mind that you'll still be able to access your hidden drives; you just won't see that they exist in Windows Explorer or the My Computer folder. Before proceeding, it is highly reccomended that you backup the registry! You'll thank yourself for saving your existing settings if anything goes wrong, so be safe rather than sorry. Steps: 1. Open Regedit. 2. N
  12. Clear index.dat files manually in Windows XP Even if you regularly clear your Internet History, Temp files, and cookies to keep ordinary snoops at bay, you're overlooking a very important detail: index.dat files. These hidden files contain information about your IE surfing history and your Outlook activity. Microsoft claims index.dat files cache webpages you visit to help speed up the loading time in Internet Explorer. A lot of folks disagree, and there are a few conspiracy theories floating around about what index.dat files are really for. Index.dat files aren't only hidden, they're system fi

  15. Hey REMIX_23 By default, when you minimize Firefox, it gives back to Windows most of the RAM the browser was using. It sometimes can take several seconds for the browser window to become fully loaded when you restore the window to its original size. Fortunately, there's a hidden setting that can accomplish the restoration of Firefox windows much more quickly: 1. In the address bar, type 'about:config' (without the quotes) 2. Right-Click anywhere and select to creat a new Boolean value. 3. Type or paste the following string into the dialog box that appears: config.trim_on_minimize 4. Click OK
  16. Hey marsh! great to see you again!
  17. Yep, you can listen, download, or subscribe via rss here. About it being 'bad' just for the reccord, the first two were pilots of the show. Merely tests to see how the recording software worked, how to upload and get everything functioning correctly. They should get much better and longer (the goal is about 30 mins) in soon time. Matt
