  1. It's a good possibility that a System Recovery will wipe your downloaded programs. I would backup what you can before attempting it.
  2. That was on some OEM systems (HP, Gateway & etc.) with AMD cpus that for some reason had an Intel driver installed. Plus another bug effected systems with Asus A8N32-SLI Deluxe motherboards. I can't see why they rag on MS. Rag on the damn OEMs for their sloppy ass setups. Got An AMD Processor? Don’t Install Service Pack 3!
  3. You need to post the log in the Malware Removal - HijackThis Logs section (My third link).
  4. Do a search of your Startup entries here: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/startups/ Check out JSKYs site about Vista: Vista Services

  6. Have you tried: 1. Click Start > Run and type services.msc then press the <Enter> key 2. Scroll through the list and double click the Extensible Authentication Protocol Service entry. 3. Set this service to Automatic, click Start then OK. 4. Re-start the PC [Extensible Authentication Protocol Service] EAPSVC.DLL You may see it described as "Microsoft EAPHost Service". EAPHost is a Microsoft Windows Networking component that provides an Extensible Authentication Protocol infrastructure for the authentication of "supplicant" protocol implementations such as 802.1X and Point-to-Point
  7. Deleting .log files will not hurt anything. They will be recreated by programs that are still functional.
  8. I remember that problem. Go to Start > Run > type msconfig, press the <Enter> key, click on the Advanced button and check Disable fast shutdown.
  9. About tyme you popped in again. Heck you live across the lake from me now. Maybe I'll have to "borrow" a boat and pay a visit.
  10. Happy B-Day guys and to any one I have missed in the last couple of months.
  11. The best monitor for me and my bad eyesight has been the Trinitron CRTs. Right now I have a 19" Dell Trinitron that I picked up used and in great shape for $50.00 on craigslist. They do take up a lot of space and use quite a bit of power. LCDs just don't do it for me.
  12. Download and run CCleaner Slim. See if this cleans up any left over junk that may be causing a problem. I would defrag in Safe Mode afterwards. See fi the touchpad functions correctly. If this doesn't help I would back up any important data and try a system recovery using the reovery CD or partition which will reinstall XP fresh. Reinstall your anti-virus program then update XP. See if the touchpad functions correctly. If it does reinstall your programs. If the touchpad still doesn't function correctly then you may have hardware failure.
  13. I have Googled irfanview download and touchpad problems. What I see are separate issues with either the touchpad or the program IrfanView on the same site, not that IrfanView caused a problem with touchpads. This is the only site to obtain the download from http://www.irfanview.com/ which sends you to CNET Download.com The Fn + F7 keys toggle the touchpad on and off on most laptops. Try pressing those two keys to see if the touchpad starts working. Leave the touchpad enabled and reboot with the USB mouse plugged in to see fi the laptop recognizes the new hardware and loads the generic drivers
  14. Reboot with the mouse plugged in so it can be detected and the generic drivers loaded after disabling the touchpad. Hold down the Ctrl-Alt keys while tapping the Del key to reboot the laptop due to the mouse not functioning. BTW. Where did you download IrfanView from and what version? I have never seen an issue with this program. Have you tried pressing the Fn + F7 keys to see if the touchpad worked while it was enabled in Control Panel? After downloading IrfanView you may have accidently hit a key combination that disabled the touchpad.
  15. Ah, college. All that last minute cramming for tests, hard core partying and all those lonely girls away from home.
  16. Just call them and say you needed to do a fresh install. Pretty much any time you do a reinstall of XP OEM versiosn you need to call in to activate. You should have no problem. As to using the same Home OEM CD that shouldn't be an issue as long as you use different Home OEM COAs.
  17. I imagine he is quite busy with school and other projects.
  18. The temp folder in Win98SE is as follows, C:\Windows\Temp if C: is the drive that Windows is installed on. Read the procedure to remove Zone Alarm from ZoneLabs. Uninstall ZA

  20. Many people have complained about Toshiba's customer service. http://www.consumeraffairs.com/computers/toshiba.html http://www.howtofixcomputers.com/bb/ftopic83786.html I would back up any must have programs and data then buy a new or used laptop (NOT TOSHIBA) to transfer your programs and data to. Once that has been done send in the Toshiba laptop for repair and if they don't successfully fix it sue them.
  21. I have never tested them with nothing installed.
