Heh-heh I can see it now. Bill Gates: Who is this iccaros guy and why have Windows server 2003 sales declined by 24% last quarter? Steve Balmer: Uh-uh,,, huh?

Have a great Birthday

You could probably run your super computer cheaper if you built a portable nuclear reactor in your backyard. Then you'd have an unlimited supply of electricity.....................of course then all of your neighbors would mutate into hideous beings.

Iccaros linux 1.0. That name has a nice ring to it! That'll be your legacy once your distribution takes off and challenges the other distros.

Wow, you must be playing some new beta 3D holographic version of Halo2 to need horse power like that. Cool.

Hi folks, The wait is over, Fire Fox 1.0 has finally been released! I've installed it it on all of my machines, it's awesome! You can download it here.

I've been writing to iccaros for a long time, he's a very knowledgeable Unix/Linux master who is very generous with his time. I totally agree with iccaros. If you run Linux behind a router and run as a user you are more secure than a windows box. In my opinion Linux is more secure than windows.

Good to see you on the board, uberpenguin It's a great day for open source people every where! Fire Fox, version 1.0 has finally been released! I've downloaded and installed it on my Linux box and my windows boxes as well. Fire Fox 1.0 is awesome.

hitest replied to tictoc5150's topic in Linux & Unix Tips and Tricks
Hi tictoc5150, Hmmmmm........I've been trying to connect for over two hours now. I guess everyone and his dog is trying to download updates. AAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHH!!!! I'll keep trying. Good to hear you were able to connect. How long did it take you to connect? Yeah I quite like the polygon M$ rip-off, heh-heh Maybe the screensavers will work in 10.2. Oh well, got to go try and connect again...........grrrrrrrrr. -
Hmmmmmmm.......my hotmail account is still set to 2 MB. But, I did see a window that said I'll be upgraded to 250 MB at some point. Cool.

Mandrake 10.1 Official Released
hitest replied to tictoc5150's topic in Linux & Unix Tips and Tricks
Hi tictoc5150, I've also found that some of the screensavers don't work as well. I'm not sure why that is. It doesn't bother me too much as I usually set my monitor to power down after about 15 minutes. I've got the screensaver called Polygons running, it's simple, some nice eye candy. I still can't connect to mandrakeupdate, now I think I know why. This version, the community version, isn't compatible with the new mandrake update service. I think only Official versions are compatible. Maybe the next point upgrade will allow me to connect. Or I could have the service mis-configured whic -
Thanks for the link, very cool.

Very cool, man. What is Sunray? Unix?

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MACMARAUDER! I hope you have great day my friend Kick back, relax, have a few beers!

They all look very nice indeed. I voted for #9.

Hmm... that's odd. Could you post a screenshot of that (strange things on the monitor)? It's mostly Gnome that does that for me. I'll try to create that effect and post back here. It did anyway in Red Hat 9, so far I haven't seen this in Mandrake 10.1 Okay, now this is just weird. I logged onto my system and loaded Gnome 2.6 for the first time on this box and it ran just fine. It looks a bit clunky as I didn't re-size the icons, but, everything worked just fine. I notice though that this version of Gnome looks different from what was on my Red Hat 9 box. Gnome on Red Hat 9 was hacked a

Thanks for the link, man. I like the look of your desktop, very minimalistic, a bit like Enlightenment. I found Black Box a bit restrictive too. I've got KDE, IceWM, and Gnome istalled on my unit, but, usually just use KDE. KDE is the only WM that doesn't produce strange video artifacts on my monitor.

Thanks for the heads up. I'll update my eMac at work.

You're welcome! Thanks go to Kyle He's a super smart dude. He's a master level Linux/Unix guy from way back to the tech tv board days. Now we've got jcl, Kyle, and uberpenguin back here again. Very cool.

Hi Kyle, I haven't heard of Openbox. I've run Black box, Enlightenment, ICEWM, Gnome. Is Openbox like Flux box? I'm glad you're here, man.
-
I hope you had a great birthday sethook!

Hey Kyle, Welcome to the forum. I'm not certain if Mandrake CD has a shell. I guess another possibility would be to use your idea with a knoppix CD. Then su to root and follow your steps. That might work.
