LOL You made my day! Yes, the best course of action is read first and perhaps reply. I'm not always able to keep my big yap shut at other forums though. But, I'm learning later, hitest

Heh. Not so much these days, probably not until DragonFly matures. Actually I've been looking to get away from 'nix entirely but there aren't many alternatives. FreeBSD and NetBSD are probably about as secure as Linux, OpenBSD is more secure than all three, and SELinux is almost certainly more secure than OpenBSD. It would be interesting to see how the more liberal (or more conservative -- whatever) Linux and BSD developers could take advantage of the Trusted Computing infrastructure. IIRC IBM is using Linux in their TC research. (Hmm. I just noticed that RMS conflates TC and DRM, as do

Thanks for the link. Your article outlines many of the reasons why I run Linux. The article is an also example of why I keep running away from Linux I'm not really prepared to take advice about Trusted Computing from someone who thinks that security is immoral. Yeah, I know you're a big BSD guy, jcl. BSD as far as I know is very secure, maybe even more so than Linux if I'm not mistaken. I think I read that apple's OS X was rated very highly for being a very secure OS.

i'm not sure if that's even posible, but i'm a little out of the loop. You're not missing anything over there, buddy Trust me on that. This board is much better. Good to see you on the boards, man!

Welcome. This is a great board. The "other" board seems to be up now. This board is better, not as hostile.

That sounds very familiar to me tictoc5150! I also got hit by the flu, bronchitis this holiday season. So I'm laying low, just staying home with the kids having a few beers and some snackies. Happy New Year, everyone Take a cab if you get loaded. Stay safe.

Well beleve it or not, I have never used knoppix. If you are wondering why, 700 megs takes around an hour to download at school, and will take around a couple of months on my dial up connection...lol I've used this company for a few years when I didn't have access to a CD burner, they are reliable. You can buy a copy of Knoppix 3.7 for $2.50 US. That includes shipping. I ordered my copy of Knoppix from them. Discount Linux CDs cheers, hitest

I was there when it was TTV. Seveal I know are as well, but I will let them speak for them self's. I also was there when it was Tech TV. I hang out there on occasion, it's a little weird. A lot of us migrated from other forums.

I'm about five minutes away from work driving at 30. What books do you like? I like trashy sci/fi, some horror, and technical manuals.

Yeah, it's down or something. I was just able to post just now, but, it's deadly slow. Something is out of kilter over there.

Yes, there's a mountain in plain view from my rear window. What is your favorite type of movie?

I would recommend against lindows, now known as linspire. It is Linux, but, linspire makes you run your unit as root. Also, they encourage you to use their click and run warehouse (not cheap) to download software that is freely available on the Internet. I am opposed to a pay for view version of Linux. On occasion I will buy a boxed set of Linux to support the Linux company of my choice. I imagine it would be stable enough as it is Linux. However, I'd say go with another version.

I used to use Red Hat 9, but stopped using it when Red Hat discontinued support of that great product. I hear Fedora Core 3 is pretty good.

Thanks for helping iccaros.

Even though I'm an avid Linux idiot I agree that XP with SP2 is a good operating system. My first choice will always be some kind of *nix though.

Cool article. Thanks for the link. That's the only beef I have with Tbird; it doesn't have an integrated calendar function. I'll be first in line to download Lightening when Mozilla.org serves it up hitest, good to see your interest...... A bit more info here. Cool link, thanks.
