  1. Change it. I'm not sure if master/slave setting would make it faster. The speed problem may be a safegaurd against making coasters. M
  2. Delete that shortcut. Create a new one. Right click on empty area of desktop. Select new/shortcut. First screen is location. type G:\ or browse for your jump drive. Next screen is to give it a name. We will get this, don't give up. M
  3. Questions are a form of learning. If you ask the same question then you may not be learning, but that's not a problem either. Ask and we shall answer, hopefully correctly. LOL G:\ drive will be a partition and that is not what you want. I think an easier solution would be a shortcut. With the usb drive in and recognized, make sure usb drive is G. On desktop right click new/shortcut. First screen is location, in your case it would be G:\ give it a name, bam you done. test it. let me know one way or another. M
  4. Xp will not allow you to delete the partition? I should allow you to crash your machine then format ntfs or fat, go ntfs, then install OS. Should is the key word. M
  5. I believe if you make a G:\ XP will change the jump drive letter to one that is available. M

  7. Start/run/cmd then press enter When command prompt is open type ipconfig /all You should be able to get into your router by puting the address of the default gateway into your address bar. For user name and password try entering with no info, then user name: admin password: password or admin and default. The cd should tell you this info, explore the cd. M

  10. Xp Pro should see the drive no problem. I drive has been used on many XP machines all recognized it. I have an Impact by Lexar. Check the Removable Storage in Service, it should be Automatic or manual. This can be found in Control Paneel/Administrative Tools/Services. M
  11. Go for it. You will learn valuable information even if you cannot get them connected. Make sure Workgroup names are the same for each machine. Machines can have different names. Test to make sure the router can communicate with the machine fartherest away. Once this is done retry network/neighborhood on each machine.   15. Posting XP boot floppys in rar format size is 4390kb. Each floppy in in it's own folder. Pop in an empty floppy. copy the files from the folder to the floppy, don't copy the folder. Number each according to the folder. These were free from M$. Now Bill does not want to support fdd, everything is going to boot from cd. You will need them sooner or later if you don't have them. M

  19. I am looking to make a cd with a fully fuctional xp os on it. I heard of it but did not make a note of it at the time. Looking for direction.   20. I get to Windows: Your machine crapped out and I don't know what to do. Please choose: Safe Mode Safe Mode with networking blah blah blah last known good config normal boot. None work. I have HDD in my machine doing a A\V scan then RAR'ing files to my HDD so then can be saved. Then I will reinstall XP. I Found that you cannot get XP bootdisks from M$. Bill is not supporting floppy installs. Now I have to dig out my floppys from storage incase I can't boot from CD. Happy HO HO to all. M

  22. Refer to this thread. This mobo is what I'm replacing with. What problems should I expect with XP when it sees a different mobo? Will try to hold out 'till sunday before starting the project. I have never replaced a mobo in a machine with an OS installed. M
  23. MoBO just arrived FedEx. Will start with it as soon as wife lets....christmas with family and what not. Will probally get going Sat night or sunday. M
  24. Try eleminating apps accessing memory and processor that are not being used. No need to have your resources taken when you would be better off with apps off. Many apps are set to start in background when windows starts, therefore robbing you of resources. M
