  1. That page looks familiar, I'm certain I've used it before but either lost or misplaced the link. I'm certain that'll do it, if not ... I'll be back! Thanks (and I'll save that link)! ----- Just the fact that it opens tells me that's where I need to be.
  2. I'm using Win '98SE so the most recent Flash versions have passed me by. Some sites "recommend" I update Flash, but if I went to Adobe's site they'd say '98 is no longer supported. No problem, I just keep the old version. Ta-da! However, Adobe snuck an update in there somehow. While deleting extra files (temps, etc.) at the end of the day yesterday I found a Flash update exe in the temp folder. I deleted it 'cause I know I CANNOT update Flash (so I don't have the exact filename) but I didn't know at the time that the update had already taken place. How do I know it's already taken place? Man
  3. Feelin' kinda down, so blues compilations seemed appropriate: Big Blues Extravaganza!, The Best of Austin City Limits Blues Deluxe, Live recording at the 1980 Chicagofest by WXRT-Chicago Blues Gold, two disc compilation of, well, everybody.
  4. I do believe they intentionally misspell the topic to get past filters, but if I ever opened one I'd expect the body of the message to be in Chinglish too. My ISP has a "known spam" box that over the years I've come to trust enough that I have it automatically delete everything that goes into it. I haven't seen one of those kinds of spam in a long time.
  5. I must not have a crooked bone in my body as I would NEVER EVER have thought of that. What a ROTTEN thing to do, for what? Fifty bucks worth of gas? Crazy.
  6. With blind panic setting in over the financial markets, and OPEC agreeing to lower output, AND this information on the 'net, I imagine we'll be hearing about this a LOT more. At least they won't be getting to MY gas tank, the car's in the garage when I'm home and under camera surveillance in a guarded parking structure when I'm at work. Funny (to me) story: I have friends that drain every last drop out of their car's gas tanks before they'll begrudingly fill it up, all the while moaning about how much it cost when they finally get around to it. So when they're out and about it's a gam
  7. Uh, you know, if you have the time, uh, POST EM! Often, while mindlessly watching Antiques Roadshow, a lamp will be on and it perks me right up.
  8. I just used it yesterday and it worked BETTER than usual, much faster scrolling for one. It did spazz out after I used it for a while, but that's probably due to my Jurrasic-era computer. Maybe if I shovel in more dinosaur dung?

    Halloween Card

Oh man, sorry, but "cards" are a major source of malware, so I just can't bring myself to trust the link.
  10. What? You mean there may be more to the story? Wow, that hardly EVER happens! I pulled into a station once after work in the wee hours of the morning and began the process of pumping gas but ... something was amiss. I looked at the building and I couldn't see anyone inside. Sure, they could be stocking or something, but ... something was amiss. The station wasn't open yet and they must have forgotten to turn off the pumps the night before. You still would've had to charge the purchase to start the pump, but it sure was odd.
  11. ... Too true, in my opinion. Foreign nameplates can make money building here partly because they locate their factories ONLY where non-union labor is available. Just to be clear, that's fine by me. America has become non-competitive partly because we demand too much in compensation across the board, from janitors to CEOs.
  12. I saw many of those and drooled, but thought I'd spare ya all my obsession. Some are new to me though! ----- It all started back when I had my first job, lived in a studio apartment, and saw ... IT. A floor lamp that resembled a miniature building crane in chromed steel. Hot-diggity. I was too cheap to buy it then and have always wished I hadn't been (though I imagine cleaning it would have worn out its welcome -- chrome bars and wires, dust, wear, ugh). My only fancy-schmacy lamp is one of the first of the new-wave in consumer torchieres that I bought maybe thirty years ago; a black
  13. That is one sad chain of events. I suspect the shooter will be prosecuted as he only has his word to indicate the kids might have been stealing his property, and he made no mention of feeling physically threatened. Kinda has to be one or the other, life & limb or property, and he can't prove it was either.
  14. Phoenix data. It looks like violent crime is slightly above the ten year average but the rate is relative stable over the last decade. (min: 9471 (2004), max: 11194 (2006), avg: 10317, last year: 11168) OTOH weapon violations are way up over the last decade. (min: 531 (2001), max: 1144 (2007), avg: 728, last year: 1144) Edit: Forgot: population grew from 1,256,353 in 1998 to 1,609,935 in 2007. So far more people, in all likelyhood far more firearms, and little or no increase in violent crime. "Weapon violations," whatever that means, could just be better prosecution, something the NRA has be
  15. Just a hunch to use V8 instead of water? Was it too heavy because of the solids in the juice? Odd that, if that's it, the extra 1/4 cup of liquid would make it too wet ... I think you should'a bought two bread machines 'cause you're gonna wear that one out quick!
  16. It seems to have settled to between $3.25 and $3.50 around here for regular. For now. Isn't this tropical storm season?
  17. Multitudes of lawsuits over, what? At most, a hundred dollars worth of gas? Uh, no. I don't think so. If the gas station was smart, they'd write off the loss as customer relations. But as we already know, they're NOT smart!
  18. Routine procedure means that in that area the local police don't make the decision whether or not to prosecute, a grand jury has that responsibility. It also means firearms are used to prevent crime hundreds of thousands of times every year in the U.S. so, yes, firearms used for self-defense is a routine matter for the police. Regarding the comment: "a life for a father/husband/sons life." If someone breaks into your home and comes toward you, you have every reason to suspect they intend to cause you bodily harm. That, too, is all too common. You might feel sorry for the criminal, but better

    Castlecops

They either ticked off the mobsters who distribute phish-ware or some greasy-haired kid living in his parent's basement.
  20. Our unseasonably warm weather's over too, back to typical Fall weather: 50's to 60's with overnight frosts. Some good color from all that rain this year.
  21. Sometimes a property owner's intentions aren't clear, but it's clear enough here: "Some guy's in my house and is comin' at me -- BANG."
  22. I agree the oil companies aren't planning for anything that may occur in the future. One, why should they? They'll just do whatever they have to do to continue making a profit. Two, they're not that smart. I think it's all about Supply & Demand. More supply, less demand. Sure makes all the hand-wringing over off-shore and restricted area drilling seem like a waste of time for now.
  23. Companies often overlook mistakes in the name of customer relations, but the law is on their side if they decide to make you pay the "correct" price. Essentially the law states: If it ain't yours, under NO circumstances are you allowed to keep it. If it ain't yours and you keep it, you're a thief. No "finders, keepers," no "possession is nine tenths of the law," no "oopsey, we charged you the wrong price, oh well." If an item rings up wrong at any store, you're still liable for the difference (legally speaking, again, some places have an in-store policy that's different for customer relations
