  1. Being the smarty-pants that I am, that one always cracks me up the most.
  2. Spoken was my second choice ... ahh, Vedder and his infamous enunciation! Still remember some skit show (Mad TV?) where they had each cast member come out as a "new" artist, and each and every one sounded exactly like Vedder (a commentary on the "sameness" of the current crop of crooners) (I like the alliteration of that ... Current crop of crooners, current crop of crooners, current crop of crooners ... ).
  3. Statistics sure are ripe for abuse. You can quote statistics that support your argument 'til you're blue in the face, and STILL not be right.
  4. Haven't had the urge to listen to anything in particular for the last few days, so it's been WXRT radio, Chicago. I think it's currently Pearl Jam , Jeremy's Broken (not sure of the song title).
  5. I think it says ... you're looking for any excuse to buy more beer! And no, I never got the urge to drink more beer.
  6. I'm no statistical genius, but it sounds like all that could be condensed into:
  7. Good to know the "last chance" call is just the latest lie by the loan sharks. If it WERE the last time they called, we wouldn't be having this conversation.
  8. I'll sit this one out, trailers are tornado magnets.
  9. Semi-related: I needed a new garage door and hardware and wanted a local company. I look it up in the yellow pages and there's one with a local number and lists my town's name (I'm in a small town, there are, or were, only two numbers in use at the time -- that is, the first three digits). Nope, they lied. They were from out-of-town. I've seen this several times since. Seems the phone company will sell anything to anybody for any reason.
  10. If the fraudwatchers site didn't convince you, you could always follow up and as soon as they ask for money, you'll KNOW it's fraudulent.
  11. Good one! Now we need a third "chauffer" joke -- everything in threes!
  12. I'm well past the point where playing games satisfies me in any way. For one, they don't care. The operators still get paid, the computers obviously don't care, the calls will continue despite anything I do during the call. I am now able, without so much as a twinge of guilt, to say, right over whatever it is they're trying to say, "I do not accept this type of call at this number" and immediately hang up, and if I get silence or clicks that indicates a computer generated call, I just hang up. It's still annoying, but that feeling only lasts a few moments now.
  13. As long as we're talkin' annoying calls, I kept getting a "last chance to" call, probably every week for months. I never picked it up, but they left a message that angered me. Seems my credit card company, who can call me despite the "do not call" list because I do business with them already, wanted to offer me the chance to "lower my rate." OK, they can RAISE my rate at any time for any reason, but they need to talk to me to LOWER that rate? Baloney. They're obviously trying to "sell" me the "opportunity" to get into some other damnable credit trap that'll wind up costing me more money th
  14. So I answer the phone (I normally screen calls, but I was expecting a call): "This is not a telemarketing call. We have been trying to contact you for some time. We have records of a [my full name] who purchased a Florida vacation property two years ago and ... " "Nope not me." [click] What kind of new hell is this? You can telemarket as long as you say you're NOT telemarketing? Depends on what the definition of telemarketing is?
  15. I don't care if they duke it out all night long, but they better change the font back to English before I get up in the morning!
  16. Walking down to the "office" this morning I found myself singing Monday, Monday (by the Mamas and the Papas), so, it shouldn't be difficult to guess what I'm listening to: The Mamas and the Papas, Greatest Hits.
  17. I think it's realistic to say there are a "few" crazies in every culture and that "most" people aren't subject to old-fashioned prejudices. But, if you're living in an enclave of crazies or people with deep prejudices, I can see how you might think those attitudes are more prevalent.
  18. Tuesday 5/7: One hour (1) (Didn't make it one month ... ) Sometime after midnight on Saturday 6/28: A few minutes (I reckon, as I wasn't home). Made it over a month! Around 5 or 6 pm on 7/2: about 35 minutes (lasted four days this time!). Around 5 pm on 7/21: about 8 minutes (two-and-a-half weeks of uninterrupted power!). Two weeks of continuous electricity! Around 5pm (I see a pattern) on 9/12: about ten minutes. Today, 9/15, one momentary and one just long enough to screw everything up. Another one: 9/16 ~12:15 pm for about fifteen minutes. Didn't even make it one day this
  19. National Guard? No ... that can't be it ... ?

Haha. I don't use Vista (or XP), but I've gone through OS upgrades before; some programs won't work, some need updated drivers, and the new OS works better with upgraded hardware. Vista's no different, and no Kool-Aid is required to know that.

Personally, I think the reluctance to upgrade to Vista is more about people forgetting what a major OS upgrade entails than any flaws in the new OS. A major OS upgrade has; ALWAYS meant some programs would no longer work under the new OS, ALWAYS meant some drivers need to be upgraded to be compatible with the new OS, ALWAYS meant optimum performance would require hardware upgrades. I don't see the difference with Vista. The only thing that's changed is people's attitude toward upgrading. Instead of simply discussing the necessary changes they had to make and how difficult or easy they wer
  23. It's jumped to ~$4.35 for regular here.
  24. Apparently, Google want you to "upgrade" to Chrome now.
