  1. Too funny! I've often read where senior citizens have use firearms to stop criminals who have broken into their home, but you never hear about senior citizens kickin' someones behind!
  2. A bit late for St. Pat's day, but I saw Celtic Thunder live last night. First, none of my party knew they had, err, such an "enthusiastic" following. It was like being at a Beatle's concert! Girls screaming and sobbing and jumping up at the first note of each performance. Weird. Well, not weird, but certainly unexpected by us. My Niece commented part way through about how sad many of the songs were. Maybe this concert will prod her to investigate her heritage, which should help her to better understand why that might be. The sound! Whoa. Their harmonies were mind-bendingly beautiful, their
  3. I can't help thinking how wonderful the countries in the Middle East could be if only they could accept secular government. The people are strong, resourceful, imaginative and industrious (among other superlatives). Religious oppression is crushing them.
  4. A banker who doesn't understand stocks? No wonder we're doomed.
  5. Your first post states you have this: VAIO VGC-JS190J, an All-In-One desktop computer. You haven't said what laptop you have.
  6. Does Obama's win negate the Constitution? No debate? No opposing views? No more balance of powers? Whoa. And nutjobs said Bush was a "dictator."
  7. Makes sense, though I've been noticing more and more that new artists I've found, in general, sound similar to someone else (is that a sign of old age? Like saying, "Gosh-durnit, all new cars look the same!"). One of the songs on this CD starts off with an EXACT duplication of a riff from a song I'm familiar with (that was one of the songs my buddy played to "throw me off"). Today, off the A-B shelf: Alan Parsons The Art of Noise Audioslave Basement Jaxx Billy Joel
  8. Had to look up "xeriscape." Reminds me of when I bought the house. I, like many people do, overextended myself purchasing my first home (thank God it wasn't in today's financial climate). I couldn't afford grass or sod for the longest time. I joked to my neighbors that I planned on putting down green linoleum; No muss, no fuss, just Mop-and-Glo once a week! Being new to the neighborhood, some of them weren't sure if I was kidding or not!
  9. Unfortunately, the "safest" repair, the kind that retains all your data, also retains all your settings. Right now your settings include hiding that task bar somewhere. A repair might put the task bar right back where it is now (wherever that is!). I don't have your particular OS, but for me, that task bar IS there somewhere. I've lost it too and it turned out to be 'hidden' on an unexpected side of the screen. It's possible that that teensy bar you "grab" with your mouse, that you normally see on the bottom, is offscreen due to your monitor setttings or capabilities. If that's the case, swit
  10. Umm, there's been plenty of vote fraud long before electronic voting machines were invented. Intentional mis-counts, ballets "disappeared," questionable rejections, etc. I'm just sayin' ...
  11. I was at a friend's house and he just bought a bunch of music. He said there's one he wanted me to hear, knowing I'd get into it (we've known each other for thirty years), but he didn't want me to know who it was at first. Hey, I'll play along! He played a song ... Umm, Bryan Adams? No. He play another one ... Umm, new Aerosmith? No. John "Cougar" Mellencamp? No. One after another, song after song, each sounded great (I knew I'd want the CD), but I had NO IDEA who it could be. Each song had some similarity to an artist I know (mostly artists I know and own), but I couldn't pin down who this wa
  12. --Whoa-- I saw 'em before but never tried 'em. Techno? Hey, let's try it! Looking good ... Oops, the reply page wouldn't load any images (the dreaded red X in place of buttons, etc.). Back to Besttechie!
  13. I've been a member for longer than many of you have been alive (crap, has it been forty-six years?), and I've never noticed any connection between being a member and any sorta-related junk mail. Oddly, I did get mail from "the competition" from back when there was that pointless backlash against the NRA. The only way they could have known, I think, was from an NRA mailing list. On the other hand, I used to be a member of PBS and from THAT I got tons of mail from gun-banning groups. I wrote back telling them that for every letter I get from THEM, I was going to contribute a thousand dollars t
  14. The joke's on you, it's YOUR APPLICATION!
  15. Oooo! That is CRAZY smart!
  16. There are no other comparible electronics stores around here, so Best Buy can do whatever they want now. I feel about Home Depot like I felt about Circuit City; don't like the atmosphere, don't like the lack of help, don't think the prices are anything special. I decided to replace my lawnmower (a new Craftsman that I had to have repaired each of the four times I used it) and out of frustration I decided, dammit, I'm just gonna get a Honda lawnmower at Home Depot, like normal people do. I stood around the lawnmowers for twenty minutes or so, grabbed somebody walking by who said he'd ge
  17. Good point! I did not like the atmosphere in their stores, I did not like the customer service, I did not find any particularly special deals, so ... On the other hand, I do not mind the atmosphere in Best Buy, their customer service is better than CC was (though not up to the level of, say, a mom-and-pop store), but their deals aren't anything to write home about either. It's just convenience: you need something NOW, they got SOMETHING that should work. You need a new scanner? They HAVE one, it may not be the best choice, it may not be a special deal, but you can get "a" scanner -- now.
  18. Checked the site, looks like that company is doing some imaginative design work! About time, huh? SO glad to hear the new chair is SO much improved over your last one. It's a shame you had to put up with the last chair's design deficiencies for so long. And now, without the discomfort of the previous chair, you're likely to get out and around more ... BONUS!
  19. Pete, had the news on in the background as I was doing chores and heard a terrible story about a guy (I thought it was in TX), probably drunk, who drove his car into a ditch, killing several kids. I got the impression the bad weather was a factor too. I don't even know what to say.
  20. Yes it is, yes it is ...
  21. Humans. Are we sick, disgusting animals or what? Anyone know if Craig's List keeps any specific data on communications between individuals?
