  1. Happy Birthday to both donut & gtsjorge. Todays your Day.
  2. Here is an interesting tidbit. Who's controlling your computer
  3. OK. No arguments with me. I use cable now, But It was first suggested to me back in the old TTV days when I was still on Dialup, and it allways worked good for me. Never had any problems running different machines that way. But now I am going to do some checking. I have to be sure now that I'm not giving out wrong info. Thanks for the heads up on this one maxdog4.
  4. They are different things, You will find both the "Disk Cleanup", And "Disk Defragmenter" Utilities in your "Start Menu" under "All Programs" > "Accessories" > "System Tools" It would be best, if you haven't done this in awhile. Do do so in "Safe Mode". This way you won't have allot of programs running to cause interference. And keep in mind, If you have a large partition. Or allot of programs on your disk, that Defragging your disk could take some time to compleat. To clean out your Browser Cache, and cookies in IE. Goto your Start menu, to "Control Panel" To "Internet Options". On th

  6. Have you cleaned out your Browser Cache, and went through your cookies? Have you done a Windows Disk Cleanup? First turn off System Restore and Boot into safe Mode. Then do a disk cleanup, and then Run Scan Disk. Then run your Disk Defragmenter. Then boot back into normal mode and see if this helps. To boot into safe mode: Open your start menu, go to "Run†Type in "msconfig"(without quotation marks). This will open your System Configuration Folder. Select the BOOT.INI tap, put a checkmark in /SAFEBOOT. Click apply, you will be asked to reboot for these settings to take effect. You will now
  7. Thanks, marko_tomas13 Wishing you the Same. And to one and all. A Very Happy New Year! I have to be at work, So I'll See you all in the New Year.
  8. Let's take the shortcut there. Go to Start Menu>Control Panel>Network Connections, R-Click on "Local Area Connections" Then Properties. Then the "Local Area Connection Properties" window opens up. It should be listed under "This connection uses the following items:" Should have made it simple from the start.

All-Right!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO THE TWO OF YOU!!!
  10. Increase bandwidth by tweaking QoS in Windows XP Pro The following tweak applies only to Windows XP Professional edition. The default system behavior is that all 100% bandwidth is available, however, if there is a running application that indicates to the OS it needs to send high priority/real time data, then as long as it has the socket open, Windows XP will restrict “best effort†traffic to 80% of the bandwidth so that high priority traffic can be accommodated. Basically, applications can make this request to the operating system for QoS support using the QoS application programming inter
  11. If no modem shows up then you are fine. Set your settings to DSL/Cable. Also set it the same for your media players (WMP, winamp, or whatever you use).
  12. OK, In the control panel, click on "Phone and Modem Options" Been awhile since I used 98, so you'll have to do a little searching here. Look for a tab that shows which modem your using (should say "Modems"). It will be displayed in a window. Highlight it and click on properties. On the "General tab you will find "Maximum Port Speed" Set this setting to 115200. Then go to the "Advanced" tab and look for "Advanced Port Settings" and set both the "Transmit" and "Receive" buffers to high or 14. This opens up everything. Back in my dial-up days. these tweaks made a big improvement. Hope this Helps.
  13. For the modem, Go to your control panel. And you will see it listed in there. Just click on your modem and go to properties, it's on the "General" page. For your com ports, go to "My Computer". R-Click and then "properties" In your "Windows Properties" Window. Open up the "Hardware" Tab. Then click on "Device Manager" And look for "Ports" Click on "Ports" and you should see Com1 and Com 2. Double click on each one and look for "Port Settings" you will see "Bits per second" Change these settings to from 9600 to 128000 if you have XP, or 115200 for 98 and Millennium.
  14. Best advice is to check your modem properties and your com channel properties, and make sure the speeds set at the fastest limit. The default settings are at 9600, change them to 115200
