  1. Well I know for a fact one of the OT Mods got one of the younger ones to PM all the tech help and a few Mods and others that are popular people with Cartoon Porn. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Keith my friend,I hope you're kidding but I know you're not. A sad state of affairs! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Actually he is not. This was one of the first attempts to find a reason to demod me. They caught Zorro in the trap. I got a scolding for telling people how to block PMs from specific users and telling folks to add this individual to their blocked list. I also got falsely accused of banning peo
  2. If you paid attention, the mods who actually took a stance to fight spam and trolls got demodded. Those who remain were told that the others had been to strict and that moderators needed to lighten up and stop trying to lock down the boards. They gave out a big list of things they no longer wanted us to take action on and specifically told us that it was better to leave something on the boards until we had a chance to ask an admin what they wanted done about it than to lock or delete before we cleared it. They told us that if the language filter did not block it, not to worry. They told us s
  3. Not always, lots of mexico is hot and dry. But last I checked they were still using lead in their gasoline. One tank and you are buying a new Catalytic converter if you ever want to get another emissions inspection sticker. Also , lots of their pumps have the oversize nozzels which require you to punch out the fill hole and then you need a new filler neck to pass a safety inspection. What all this points out is that after all the BS about forming a Department of Homeland Security to coordinate things and be ready for a major terrorist attack , we just have a bunch of beaurocracy , not a func
  4. DO you have any cordless phones? Is there a microwave oven nearby? These emit on the same frequency as the cordless keyboard and can cause interference. (Even a neighbor with a more powerful keyboard could be interfering. ).Or a wireless network. There really should be a way to change the channel on your wireless config. keep digging.
  5. Is this XP? If so go to start / run and type diskmgmt.msc Locate the "unallocated space" and right click and choose Format. Let disk management do its thing.
  6. Yes and no. It is best to do it in safe mode. Normally , if the file is in use, it will not delete. Your firewall and other running programs are apt to store files in the temp folder. These are supposed to be cleared on reboot but may not be. In any case, it is best to reboot after you have deleted the contents, and like I said, boot to safe mode, delete them immeadiately and then reboot.

  8. It should work for browsers as well as email; and there is also a time out feature where you can set it to shut the connection if not used in x minutes. But I would just try it. Also, there should be no problem shutting down the PC with the dialup still connected. It will just be disconnected when the modem closes down.
  9. Check out this microsoft article CD-ROM Access Is Missing and Messages Cite Error Code 31, Code 32, Code 19, or Code 39 After You Remove Easy CD Creator in Wind: Often having nero and roxio on the same machine causes the same problem with the buffers. Second, I would try a different brand CD just to be sure, but the tracking error to me sounds like you have one of those artec burners which has a problem where the burning laser vibrates loose enough to get out of alignment and be unable to follow the track.. No fix, just need a new burner. May happen with any brand, artec are just notorious fo
  10. Have you considered going to tools / internet options/ connections Select the connection/ click on settings/ click on advanced Check the box "Disconnect when no longer needed" It will now disconnect when you close all open browsers / email clients.
  11. The drive uses a seperate laser for CDROM and DVD (different frequency) so it is possible that the DVD laser failed and the CDROM one is still functional. If it is a matter of playing DVDs, this is a matter of software. You need a program like WinDVD to play and view (Decode) DVD format. If the disks play on the burner, but not the player, I would go with the laser failed. First thing to do is to run a laser lens cleaner (looks like a cd with a row of toothbrush bristles on it) to ensure it is not just coated with dust. DVD requires a lot finer focus, and is thus more susceptible to a little d

  13. The router should have a built in switch on the back (Four ports labled LAN to connect computers to , one labled WAN to connect the modem to). You just connect each computer to the Router, the router manual should include instructions on how to configure both the Win98 and WinXP machine to connect to it. Then the next step is to check that both computers have the same workgroup name. In Win98 go to control panel/ network Click the identification tab and change the workgroup. http://www.wown.com/j_helmig/win98.htm XP you right click on my computer/ properties/ Name/ workgroup / change Insert
  14. Remember, if you have onboard sound , read the motherboard manual to find out how to disable it. If you are replacing a sound care, make sure to uninstall (remove) it in device manager before you install the new card. Also uninstall any software associated with it. Sound cards are finicky and tend not to work if there are two . They tend to want their own settings and resources and not function well if at all if forced to use the backups because another sound card is assigned them.
  15. Yep, checking out several other forums and newsgroups I used to frequent. Most have shown a major decrease in traffic. I found a new one that I think I really like. It took me seven hours to go through the new posts today. If I decide to make that my new major hangout I will let folks know. Really a friendly place Threads: 45,986, Posts: 261,834, Members: 16,935 Currently Active Users: 385 With ten new members today alone.
  16. Yes, this could be it. First , right click on desktop/ properties /settings / advanced/ troubleshoot Where is the hardware accelleration? Try moving it one notch to the left. This will decrease performance, but can identify if this is a problem. Second go to start/ run and type dxdiag and hit enter. Check to see if there are any problems. What version of direct X does it say you have?

  18. I reserve "Borg" for people with Wifi enabled microprocessor interface implants in their brain. I do not think this is to bizarre, and actually think it will be an option before too long. I think it will initially be an optional interface developed for disabled persons, but will in due time be expanded for fighter pilots and military RPV pilots, then eventually gamers and finally the mainstream populace to interface with their computers and the internet. This will allow you to exercise, vacation , and do other things while still working on projects or accessing internet news or education.

    G4 Email

That's a tough one. I would just as the other posters said block the messages and label them as junk. Thunder Bird 1.0.6 has a great junk mail filter. Good luck, man. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> You have to log in to your account and make sure the email listed is the one they are sending stuff to. Then you can use the link in the email to unsubscribe. Then once you do that, change the email to a junk one.'

They recently have been hiring a bunch of Microsoft OS designers , why would you want to waste money on an OS designer if you were not planning on building and marketing an OS? http://www.eweek.com/article2/0,1759,1772141,00.asp Read this And he is just one of many they have hired away recently.
  21. The advantage of having the same RAM is that you have the same specs on both sticks. If you are gaming, video editing, or other memory intensive tasks, it is advisable to have sticks from the same manufacturer, not just sticks with the same speed. Notice these specs SDRAM (2.5-3-3-7 @ 166 MHz) (2.0-3-3-6 @ 133 MHz) now, if they differ between the two sticks , then you could have problems. Not all the time, but occaisionally when they get out of step with each other by a minute amount.

  24. The biggest problem with flash drives is wear and tear on the contact surfaces as you move them from one device (camera) to another (reader) over and over. Compact Flash are more durable than most, but SD and the like are pretty close. Some like smart media cards are very vulnerable. Now for how do electronic devices which have no moving parts wear out? As thing heat and cool, they expand and contract. Different materials expand and contract at different rates. Different materials have different flexibilities. Thus overtime wherever two different materials meet, one , the other , or both or

I still have the feeling that they are planning on marketing a set top box which will enable internet access using your HDTV (Or maybe any TV) to compete with MSNTV (Microsoft bought out Webtv) http://www.webtv.com/pc/ Lets see, google an email service which they can easily integrate in a settop box. They have Picasa, a photo editing and sharing service. http://picasa.google.com/index.html They now have a chat service http://www.google.com/talk/ (Note that it is planned to offer both IM and VOIP in one application. Thus you can voice chat one on one like a phone call, Text chat, leave voice o
