Hmm , maybe I should fix those two old tvs I put up in the attic rather than taking them to the city CRT recycling event. Not. I do have one old (1960 Magnavox console with tubes) one I will hold on to (although I really should just gut the console since it is solid cherry wood and put in a nice new tv.) But the old 19 inch Craig and Sansui will go to be recycled . Besides which new CRT with ATSC / QAM tuners are cheap at Walmart if I wanted one.

The reason not to hide your SSID is that first it really does not add any more security. Sure the network does not show in normal windows zero config and most wireless adapter software; but it is still there and still detectable. Secondly if you hide it and forget that you did and go to add another computer to your network; then it is more difficult than it should be. Same if you add a new device which needs to see your ssid to join. So no real gain from hiding your network ssid. As long as you have a good WPA password you are safe. The old standard was eight character alpha numeric mixed ; b

I second that; overall regcleaners are a bad idea. Too much dependence on databases and to likely to delete something important just because it is not in their database. They do have their purposes; if you are having a specific problem which you suspect is registry related then using one in a manual mode where it will let you pick and choose which entries it deletes (fixes) . Then if you know what you are looking for; the reg cleaner can be useful to help you find and delete the specific entries which are causing a program to not install because you had the old version or trial version instal

Did a google search for Bolton and Salford and wound up with links to "Hot Female Escorts" in Manchester. But the GOOGLE MAP gave me an idea of where you are. Funny , I always thought Bolton (Not Lob) was near London . Guess it was from Monty Python. Very interesting line of work you are in.

That is good to hear. Remember it never hurts to ask; there is no such thing as a stupid question. At one time or another all of us have been where you are; sometimes we forget that fact and sometimes we need to be reminded to explain things in a simple manner or take the time to write up a script or batch file to do the job rather than trying to explain how to accomplish a complex task. So do not hesitate to ask; and be patient there is rarely a single correct solution or approach and often you will get two or three different expert opinions on how to accomplish the same thing. Use whichev

Whenever you make changes like this it is best to restart rather than use the application in question (Internet Explorer). What I would do is disable the addons, reboot, enable them and reboot. It is possible that one of the add ons is malfunctioning and hence IE is loading the "IE Safe mode" with all addons disabled. If you suspect this the solution is to disable all add ons and enable them one at a time ; at a minimum close IE after each one is enabled and then re open it . I would also recommend that you go to the malware board and post a hijackthis log to ensure you are not infected.

Graphic design is such a broad term. What are you a CAD tech, a Photoshopper, advertising grahic artist?

Well, I still feel like I have since 2001 that we have been in a recession and downward spiral since 2001 and we had eight years of hands off wait and see and trickle down economics and deregulation to see if it works. It did not; it left us where we are now. Yes, I still have a neighbor who blames Bill Clinton saying that it really began when the dot com boom busted. While I do agree that that collapse was an initial factor I blame the deregulation under the Graham Leach Bliley act which led investors to pull their money out of the tech sector and put it into newly deregulated financial and

Launch IE go to tools => add ons => manage add ons enable them

Internet Explorer is the big blue E you double click when you want to go online. Of course netzero may automatically launch it when you run their application to connect. Do not worry about it if you used msconfig. I really prefer that people use code stuff starter over msconfig because as you have probably noticed some startup entries do not show in msconfig startup list; they exist elsewhere . But they will show up in the list in code stuff starter. This helps cut down on the risk of partially disabling something and making things worse rather than better.

I do not advise using MSCONFIG; the big issue is that as you can see with AOL many applications have more then one entry , not just the 04 startup entry but an 023 service entry , and maybe an 020 appinit dll entry and winlogin entries etc etc ets. Disabling one component and leaving the others running can be problematic at best, often causing slowdowns as one component which is still running checks to see if the other which it expects to have been loaded has started up yet so it can complete a task it was supposed to do. So lets start at the top. I see you have both google toolbar and netzero

I am wondering if this is a case where the mouse keyboard combination were designed to work together and normally the firmware on the keyboard manages the mouse . When you connect the mouse directly it needs to have a driver installed first or it will be mis identified. IE the mouse in and of itself is not fully HID compliant; it is designed to use the keyboard driver. Normally, the mouse and keyboard are not in constant communication with the cpu. They work by "polling" where the cpu periodically asks them what input they have. Thus they have a small built in memory which the PC uploads in

Run Hijackthis , choose scan and save log and post that log and I will talk you through a manual AOL disable / removal. Is your problem only with internet connection speed or is it with overall performance? Which have been improved (connection speed, general performance?) by the changes you have made? What type of connection to the internet do you have? Dialup or DSL or Cable Broadband? I just need some clarification on what I am trying to fix.

Possibly commodo did the same thing. Or maybe it was an update and things changed enough the it did not recognize firefox as the same application as it was a few days ago. It happens.

I use web based interface for some accounts. Then there are the ones where I have a strong password and complex username and really do not want to be bothered with remembering them so I only use those with POP access except the occaisional review and cleanup where I run keepass and use it to access the web interface. I have to admit that now with wysiwyg html editors built into most web based interfaces and the speed of modern internet connections it has come a long way since the days when you would read one email while the next was downloading (or newsgroup post .....)

I know several other geeks; but most of them tend to be specialists (network admin, sys admin, sales, etc) and not generalists like me. I actually find the specialists to be more "geeky" as I can often find other things which fascinate me and enjoy the mundane world of carpentry, plumbing, working on my truck, landscaping and a whole lot more.

Just as when you use thunderbird or Mozilla mail when you click a link it will open firefox (if installed) or Mozilla as appropriate even if IE is set as default browser. First try the approaches listed here http://kb.mozillazine.org/Integrating_Fire...Outlook_Express If that does not work try this http://email.about.com/od/outlooktips/qt/e..._links.htm?rd=1 Note that Zone Alarm will cause your problem (inablity to get OE to open links in Firefox ) . Do you have Zone Alarm??? More info on setting browser here http://kb.mozillazine.org/Default_browser Might check this http://www.pc-tools.net/

I think the most significant thing about the passage of the stimulus package is that Obama has in one month achieved more of his and the Democratic parties "agenda" as President than George Bush and the Republicans did in eight years. It would have been far nicer if there could have been bipartisan support ; if they could have worked together and put forth an interim package which would be unanimously supported rather than the normal infighting. I think that the majority of the "earmarks" and "pork" will be addressed in the administration of these funds. It would be nice if they had not been

I know how that goes; the OL keeps insisting on having them over and rather than one or two max she invites them all and then by the end of the weekend swears she will never do it again.

A few days ago they said that the record low occurred on that day in 1899 when it was 8 below zer0 (-8 F) in Dallas with two feet of snow on the ground. All I have to say about that is hurray for global warming. Given what happens when we have a dusting of snow or a little ice , sleet or even a good rain I doubt this city could function with two feet of snow. And I definitely do not want to experience 8 below again; did that enough as a kid and in the army.

I couldn't believe that I saw a Republican Senator last night expounding that the economy "shows signs of turning around" and that "it would be better to wait and see" than pass a stimulus package. We have tried that and it did not work. But by far the most disappointing was the chief Republican blowhard advocating that they should vote against it because he has not read it because it is 1100 pages. Well maybe if he spent more time reading an less time holding press conferences he could have at least read the important parts. Part of the reason that it is so long is that everything has to be

Agreed. Consider how fast is your interent connection 10Mbps? If so Wireless B is going to be just as fast. The only place where that additional speed of the wirneless N router is going to come in play is communication between computers and devices on your internal network. IE if you are playing each other inside your LAN (LAN PARTY) with one player on each of the two computers then possibly you would notice a difference. If you are using one as a media center and streaming from it to your TV then it could help there. But as far as contributing to better online gaming no it will not. You woul
