  1. That's great! Thanks for the link. Joe
  2. A good friend of mine has just recently broken the "passing fifty" barrier. Much like myself he's having some recent health problems. He has been very much into physical fitness. IE: Biking, running, even marathons. Now he can't do anything due to recent health problems. His new passion is Particle Physics. He told me today that he wants to study more about the subject. Anyone know of some good reading material? New books? He's an M.D . So it doesn't have to be introductory. Thanks, Joe

  6. No. Cold and hot lines are not crossed. There is no cold water within a fifty miles this time of year. City water lines run underground, but because there is no frost line, they are not buried that deep. 18 inches is normal. And the lines from the street to the house are sometimes less than that. Then of course there is the problem that the genuises that built most of the houses in the city and for that matter the entire southern half of the state didn't bother to build basements. So all the mechanical systems IE: water, electric, gas, venting for heat and AC... are in the attic. If you can

  8. Discussing the weather in Phoenix in August is not recommended if you want to keep your sanity. The brain dead local "meteorologists" ( I'm sure they all have degrees from some correspondence school in Paraguay) and the local print rag ( especially good for cat litter boxes) all mimic the chamber of commerce propaganda. " Well it sure has warmed up a bit lately, but by Sunday temperatures should be cooling down somehwat! It should be a great day to spend outdoors!" Translation: It was 115 degrees and humid today. Sunday's forecast is 111 degrees and humid. Let's all pack a picnic a
  9. Shanenin and Falcon1986: Thanks for your replies. I'm going to have the problem computer user download both programs. We'll go from there. Joe

  11. Thanks for the info. I'll check it out. Problem is that it has to be very easy to turn on and off on their end. Email is still a challenge for them. I've heard about "Go To My PC" also. Any thoughts on that? Thanks, Joe
  12. Front page above the fold today's local fishwrapper (Arizona Republic(an) wrote "Ariz. to get 1st wind powered farm." $100 million project near Snowflake will begin next year. It will be developed and run by Iberdrola Renewables of Spain. I guess there aren't enough smart people here to take on such a task. It does not look like a big producer. The agreement with SRP, a co-op type of power company is that SRP will buy 63 megawatts from the wind farm. Not sure over what time frame. It's also only to have a 25% capacity factor. I'll be amazed if it ever gets off the drawing board. The AZ legisl
  13. My S.O.-in-laws live out of state part of the year and are always having computer issues that they ask me to fix. Does Vista Home Premium come with Remote access enabled. If so, could it be administered from my XP Home set up? Thanks, Joe

  15. Great idea! NIMBY = Not In My Back Yard Everyone wants something or other; more power plants to prevent brownouts, more wind power, more oil refineries, more roads, etc., but NO ONE wants them in their own neighborhoods. "Nimby" Got it. Thanks.
  16. Cry baby Janis Joplin .....I never considered her as a singer, more of a screamer, however she definately left her mark on the scene at the time. Another thought: Argentina to Venezuela. A to V. .....V being on the nothern tip of the continent while A is at the southern tip. I'm just rambling here. Stay with me. There's this absolutely incredible conductor/ musician/ teacher/ activist in Venezuela that I've been following lately. His name is Guztavo Dudamel He's been on 60 minutes here in the states, along with a slew of other programs and newspaper coverage. Also had a few specials on PBS. I
  17. Which OS are you using? Are you using a router? What kind of reformat did you do? Complete? Quick? What did you put back on the computer after the format? What are the specs of the computer? If you are using Windoze, which flavor? Did you download and install critical updates immediately after the re-install? Antivirus?
