  1. Happy Birthday, Tommyd! Have a wonderful day! Liz
  2. Thank you, Pierce! I'll let you know when she finds out for sure what she'll be required to use NOW, in the meantime, if you do have an opportunity to give it away, go ahead, I certainly will understand Thanks again Liz
  3. I'm not a gamer, but yes, subtitles should be included! (and I know they used to be on SNES games) I certainly LOVE having subtitles on DVDs on movies that have loud music and then conversation (like LOTR movies--my ears just can't adjust quick enough to hear the speech!) I'm ordering my son to make a request for subtitles on the game sites he visits and I'm going to pop off an email to his gaming friends to do the same. This is important! Thanks for bringing this to my attention, DD Liz
  4. *waves* Hi Kat, I don't really know you, but your name is a familiar one. Come run amuck with me (Robroy's slapping his forehead now...) so I can get to know you better, and welcome back! Liz
  5. House full of boys tonight, couldn't resist showing them this--a comment "WTH, is that a Hemi in that?" Liz
  6. Thank you all so much! But Jim hit the nail on the head--the college might require a particular gadget for all it's students (and she is majoring in Journalism, lots of writing) That's something I never even thought of. Be best to wait and see what the Professors say--they might not want the students to use Word. *Oh, the student version is usually under $50 if I remember right. Thanks again, Liz
  7. Planning on buying Daughter an idiot box for her college apartment (groan). We bought Microsoft Works Suite 2003 (Microsoft Word) for our home computer--can we install it on her computer, too, or did MS get greedy with Works Suite like they did with XP (one for each computer)? Thanks a bunch! Liz
  8. So Emo Thanks for letting us know about the new pictures, Goman--and please do keep bumping this or creat a new post when you do have more pictures--otherwise us old senile folks will forget to look at your site Liz
  9. Oooh, branching into some abstract now--I'm liking the variety that your work has shown--very good work as usual! Keep it up! Liz

    Hiya Folks

Glad to hear lil' Jacob is getting so big and strong. Oh, boy, next Christmas is when the real fun begins--just don't forget to snag a television box from an appliance store to wrap a present in Liz
  12. Congrats for diving into the wide, mysterious world of programming, xx! You have my admiration! I have seen Dummies books on programming and I highly recommend this series--I love my XP for Dummies and my Windows98 for Dummies--they are written in "plain English" and are humorous enough to keep you interested--and I still reference them! Another option is if you live near a college, look in the college bookstore for Programming Textbooks. Son took a "C class" this past semester, he liked his textbook (unfortunately, he returned it and I forgot what it was called, it was light bluegreen )
  13. Scroll, scroll, scroll, yep, there it is, by golly! And it works! Thanks, Jeff! Liz
  14. Oooh, Macmarauder, that makes sense that a tiny "snippet" of the illegal game might still be in Remix's computer, especially with the newer games copyright issues and XP's craving for authorizing everything. OK, folks, any idea of where to find that varmit file? (heh, don't ask me...!) Did you uninstall the illegal copy, Remix? If you did, did you do it through Add/Remove Programs or the "uninstall feature" from the Start Program...thing (you know what I'm trying to say) If you didn't, DON"T uninstall the illegal copy until the experts advise you the best way to do it. Liz
  15. Yee-Ha, Bright-Eyed Computers is off and running! (you did keep that name, right?) Congrats on your reinstall! Now don't forget to make a follow-up call to your customer tomorrow to make sure everything's running alright and ask if he or she can recommend you (give them a couple business cards) Glad to hear the good news! Congrats! Liz
  16. Wow, Pat, now at my Church, they'd use coffee for Baptisms instead of Holy Water if they could! Liz
  17. Aw, Terrorist, you wouldn't scare me--the big guys are marshmallow on the inside (but I won't tell anyone--oops, I just did) Pat, you're right about grocery stores being downright dangerous! You reminded me of one thing I'm passionate about. Toddlers who have parents that allow them to stand up in grocery carts! I don't care how many dirty looks I get or how many "I'm the parent" responses I get, when I see that, I tell the kid to sit on his bottom, that the grocery store floor is cement under the tile (and I use my "mommy means business voice"). I witnessed a toddler tumble out of a car
  18. About the only thing I can contribute is that (in my opinion!) a fancy flatpanel monitor isn't necessary. Sure, looks cool on the desk, but from what I've seen, there isn't much, if any difference in picture quality. Also, I would recommend that your friend spend an extra $20 and add "an old fashioned floppy drive if he is still in school. We did that and both kids have used it A LOT for school stuff. When BT's was down, I asked a similar question to yours at Drew's World--many of the same great helpers that we have here at BTs help there, too. There might be some info there that can help y
  19. LOL, Makai, if anyone can understand where SIL is coming from, I sure can!! 1. Idiot boxes are too expensive to chance screwing up 2. Trying to decifer the tech language 3. See number 2 when it comes to learning a new gadget (which is why I still use IE--I know how it works....kinda) 4. Brain surgery vs. monkeying around with a computer? Yeah, I'd choose surgery, too! Now, if you want to "nudge" her into a new browser, buy her a Dummies Book for it and then have her sign up here, where folks know how to explain tech in very simple English words How about some Captain Nog? Liz
  20. They must have changed it, Chappy--I just went there and got the same thing you did, BUT in the upper right hand corner, it says "click here to read" or something to that effect and it went to the coffee article. Liz
  21. Now, I don't know if these firewalls let you monkey with the ports (that's way beyond me) and I don't know if a "free with rebate" is still free in your opinion, but right now Mcafee and Norton have rebate deals. Free after Rebate (Mcafee is on the front page and Norton is on page 2 ) (kudos to Barb for that site!) Liz
  22. Great work, Goman! I like the snowman and that "gold light" photo is awesome Liz
  23. Good point, JDoors--now you have me wondering if folks in England drive shopping carts on the left side of the aisle Liz
  24. Terrorist, they can find their grocery balance over the telephone? Grrrrr. Now, that really makes me mad! I'll tell the cashier that next time I get stuck behind an arguer. Cashiers in Montague, MI will be thanking you for giving them some defense! Matt, I don't understand what all those initials mean, but it sounds like a rotten plot on the Music Industry's part. Not fair! Wishing for the days of cassette tapes and a cassette copier...thing (dubbing...thing, you know what its called) My rant! Niece opened up each Christmas present today and said, "I already have this" instead of "thank
  25. Oooh, some Cookie Monsters here, I see. Here's more Gingerbread--try them with Blackberry Tea. And Spritz (with apricot and raspberry jelly in the middles) and Candy Cane cookies (with crushed candy canes melted on the top) and of course, Haystacks....and chocolate walnut fudge and peanut butter fudge and chocolate mint fudge and Sugar Cookies I got from Daughter's Boyfriend's Mom. Enjoy, please, I have too many leftovers! Soooo, how was everyone's Christmas? Liz
