  1. Hooray for you, Tater!

Now, if you check out Dell's site, make sure you look for an area called "advertised specials". This breaks down to "tv ads", "newspaper ads" and another section (?don't remember, magazine ads maybe?) and look at all three links as they all carry different sales. That's how I found this computer, it was in "newspaper ads" section--and was never advertised in my local paper!

AND when you're ordering your computer, a little ditty that is easily overlooked is the option of buying an "XP Disk" (it's a Dell Version, not the 'real one' but contains the same stuff) for $10. Even though there are back up programs available and the OS is installed in a hidden area of the hard drive, a Disk is $10 well spent if you ever need it. In my case, it's insurance that I'll never have to use it since I bought it :D *knocks wood*

Don't purchase an AV/Firewall until you get your computer if you don't use the freebie AVs. My new idiot box had "PC Cillian AV" advertised as a 3 month free trial, bought 2006 Mcafee because I didn't want PcCillian. Ended up my free trial was for 3 months of Mcafee and by the time it expired, the 2007 Mcafee was for sale!

AND write down everything! When I ordered now-Son's computer, I wanted to upgrade the graphics card but the website wouldn't let me do it for some reason. So I called Dell, explained my dilemma and ordered everything over the telephone (because I had everything written down!) AND got the website price! AND if you call Sales, most likely you'll get someone speaking English as their first language

  2. Ooohhhh! Thanks for the invite, Marty! NZ is such a beautiful country with equally beautiful people. I've always wanted to go "down under". Someday....someday...! And you can bet that if we ever go to NZ, I will definitely contact you for a meetup!

And you know with your Ladyfriend from the other board, any friend of yours is a friend of ours! We will welcome her with open arms ready for a hug

  3. There's a Nintendo in there, too? (must be the thing under the tv?) Now, that's intreging....I could get Son out from under my feet with that.... Wouldn't be too good for multiple player games, though...you'd need side by side loos.

  4. Oh Good Lord! Like Jdoors said, put a fridge in there and I'd never see my Husband again....Hmmmm, that's something to think about for when he retires as I have a feeling he's going to drive me nuts

  5. Hi Shane and welcome to Besttechie! So glad you shouted out and introduced yourself. I'm Liz, I'm not techy so I just run amuck and confuse everyone here....

Hope to hear a lot more from you, we love busy posters!

    Merry Christmas!

  6. LOL, JDoors! At least you found out what the problem was! I remember plenty of times when my kids had to go "confess to a bad throw" to the neighbors to fetch their ball--too bad your neighbor kids didn't do that. And I know you're really not a cranky ol' man :)

Like Terrorist said, don't shop if you don't have to! Geez, I read in the newspaper today that area stores added extra security for rude shoppers. How sad!

  7. And Macmarauder's here, too! I've also been wondering your whereabouts!

I heard about the Power Outage this morning and said,

"Good Lord, Portland got it again!!!"

We need to put a force field around that area!

  8. I am so glad that you lucked out with very little damage! Being a "Tornado Survivor" when in KY with the Dancers (10 years ago and seems like yesterday! Will NEVER forget that sound!) and surviving "150mph straight line winds" a few years ago, the winds make me nervous now. Gosh, can wind be so destructive!!

And for the folks who don't have to deal with high winds, you have nooooo idea.....consider yourselves lucky!

Again, I'm so happy to hear you and Hubby went through this without much damage!! I've been worried about you!

And yes, the hikers need to be in our prayers. What a horrible dillema for them!

  9. Pat, I am so glad to see you posting as I've been looking for you! I've been hearing about the horrible weather in your area; and you and Hubby have been in my thoughts and prayers. Did you weather the "big-blow" in one piece?
