  1. *waves to Nebraska!* Let GF know I am so sorry to hear about her Grandmother. Sounds like she had a happy long life here and she's at peace now. Thank you for being her rock and give her a big squeeze from me.

Been pretty non eventful here during hibernation season, which is a GOOD thing, believe me! Very quiet with the kids at school all week and they've adjusted pretty well, with minimal kicking and screaming learning how to be on their own. (Son is living with 3 girls....need I say more??) But of course weekends, when they come home, back to insanity with a hearty dose of laundry!

  2. Marty! You are too kind! I read your post to Hubby and when he finished laughing about him being lucky, he agreed with you. Maybe it was me standing over him with my cast iron frying pan? :)

And as I always say, when one raises a Percussionist/Soccerplayer/Morrisdancer Son (I call him 'triple doomed' in the eccentric department), NOTHING ruffles you! Aron made sure I'm pretty much numb ;)

  3. :D No, Cheap Bohemian! :D Especially when I discovered my $299 celeron works just as good as Daughter's $600 Dell! Son even played on it and he didn't curse, which means it didn't miss a beat (he "guns" computers)

BUT neither idiot box is Vista compatable, I don't think. (daughter's with more ram....maybe)

Sure hope the hardware prices come down in time after Vista. I'm thinking of all those Jr and High School kids who may need a new computer for college in the next few years. Will be a hardship for them if prices don't come down.

  4. The system requirements dont seem bad to me. A 1 gig CPU, 512 - 1 gig of ram, and direct X 9. Other than the ram requirements, that's not terribly expensive.

However, as long as I can surf they net and use Open Office Ill stick with XP

Unless you're looking for a $299 computer :angry2: Those days are over. (Glad I got my elcheapo when I did!)

  5. Oh, wow, Barb, and I know just the person to send that link to! He's on another board and keeps making new usernames (using his original name and adding a number---I think he's up to "10" now!) because he forgets his password when he's travelling out of town :D I'll tell him to use this and write his password on his hand! :) John will certainly thank you for this!!!

  6. Oops, it double posted!?? (no "delete post" on this new version?)

    Liz

    Hi Liz,

There should have never been a delete post on any version of the forum as we don't delete anything here we just move it a hidden trash can forum, if there was it was a mistake. B)

I know there didn't used to be a delete post feature but thought maybe I could cover up whatever I did to double post with the upgrade :D Oh well, y'all get to see my goofups, warts and all! And Thank Goodness you're all used to my goofups by now! You can just leave that post or throw it in the trash, whatever's easier! (assuming it's easier just left there!....And aren't you supposed to be doing homework, young man?? ;))

  7. No Vista for me, thank you (and hoping my XP idiot box holds out for a long time!) From what I can see, the hardware requirements are going to make a Vista machine wayyy out of the typical family's budget! And besides, the main reason I got THIS computer is because XP Home was on it--XP Media Center has too many bells, whistles and eye candy, I can just imagine all the stuff I'd never ever use on Vista!

  8. I am sooooo bad, Pat.....I was going to install the new critter last week, thinking,

"Do it during the first part of the week, so if something gets goofed up, I can hopefully resolve it before the kids come home from College, so they'll have a working computer on the weekend to do any necessary online homework." (so many College assignments are done online nowadays! And both kids planned on being home this weekend!)

The week flew by without me finding/making the time to do it. My goal is to definitely do it this week!!! Lord willing, that is! :)

  9. Matt, I had to log in, too. I logged out and logged in on Son's account to PM Nancy with the fixes for her quirk (finally thought of that option! Glad I know Aron's password! :)), logged back in as Blim, checked the "remember me", was offline for a quite a few hours doing supper and laundry and Mommystuff, checked back here and had to log in again. (Forgive that run on sentence!)

Seeing as after the upgrade, I had to log in; I just figured Jeff was tinkering with things again and didn't think anything of it until I read this.

  10. I really want to see Elf! Saw commercials for it and it sounded hilarious. Someday, someday (just gotta talk the kids into renting it some weekend....and NO, I don't have a movie rental place account! :) But they do! )

  11. Hi Jeff and Gang!

Wonderent sent me a PM telling me that somehow her friends list in her profile are now blocked. I sent her a reply and got this,

"This member has chosen not to be contactable by the board Messenger

This personal message has not been sent"

Sooooooo, something got goofed up somewhere, probably a quirk in the latest upgrade? Can it be fixed? And if not, how does one go about "unblocking" someone? (I've never blocked anybody!)

    Thanks a million!

    Liz

  12. OK, folks, I'm breaking a rule and please forgive me--Nancy always posts here and I'm afraid she won't see this if I post it in Open Chat

Nancy--sent you a PM reply and it didn't work (got an error) but wanted to let you know I did receive your PM! Jeff will fix you right up soon, I'm sure. In the meantime, I'm going to pop a post in the "comments/suggestions" forum here. Probably a quirk in the latest forum upgrade

  13. One advantage to living in Michigan...prices go down when the sidewalks roll up for the winter! But we make up for it in Summer. Gotta get those Chicago tourist dollars, I guess.

One thing that a gas station clerk told me--when gas goes down, milk goes up....yup, she's right. 2% jumped from $2.49 to $2.79 in the past two weeks!
