I have always suspected Newegg.com did some really big sales numbers. According to their web sight they do about 1.5 billion/ year. I am into business and thought that was pretty amazing.

Now I am not so certain. I have been experimenting with my pcs with mixed results. I was getting access errors, so I created a folder, then I was able to view that pc. I then deleted the shared folder, but was still able to see if any shared printers were available on the pc. Windows file sharing seems quirky sometimes.

have you shared a folder on the computer you want to access? it sounds like you have not. To share a folder do the following 1. create a folder 2. r-click on the folder, and choose "sharing and security" 3. depending on your setup, you can then just check a box to share that folder, or you may have to click on the link the says "if you understand the security risks, but wnat to share files without running the wizard click here" click it. 4. another box will pop up. Make sure you check "just enable file sharing". then click ok 5. now you should be able to check "share this folder on the netwo

It has been a busy month. The transition has been stressful. Everything job I have done has been loaded with extra work. This is do to my infrastructure not being in place yet. I am slowly getting things together. By the first of the month, I should have my basic infrastructure needed to do client work efficiently. I also should have my sign installed. I then will keep the shop open regular hours. It has not helped that Newegg has for the second time froze my account do to a chargeback of $42.80 they said I made, which I have not. My account was closed for nearly two weeks last month, and almo

It appears the same as a repair install, does that seem correct?

it is used for my business. I will store some of my own stuff like disc images, programs, and other miscellaneous stuff. I will use it mainly for backing up client computers before formatting them.

222 will give you read and execute permissions(not write) for everyone. This way you do not have to be logged in as root to read the directory
-
I built it using 5 320GB drives. after formatting and a 20% overhead, which allows for the failure of one drive without losing my data, I have 1.12 TBs for backup.

I just received my Action Pack today. I opted to install server 2003 instead of linux(it was a tough decision) for my business file server(raid 5). Since I would like to pursue business clients, I need the experience with "server 2003". I got all kinds of fun software, and all for just $300. Now I can play :-)

You could add an entry to your /etc/fstab file. With this entry you can add read permissions for all users using the umask option. Below is from mine /dev/sda2 /home/shane/ntfs ntfs defaults,umask=222,noauto,users 0 0 Of course you will need to change the device name and mount point.

I sometimes forget about "wiki" . Thanks.

First off, I should say smitfraud infections are great for my business. I get multiple calls a month based on people with smitfraud infections. Sometimes I do a full reload of windows, other times I just use smitfraudfix to clean them. I can't understand why nortan, mcafee, spyweeper, or other commercial programs are not able to remove it, but yet smitfraudfix removes it easily. What exactly is a smitfraud infection? Smitfaudifx says it removes the following programs: AdwarePunisher, AdwareSheriff, AlphaCleaner, Antispyware Soldier, AntiVermeans, AntiVermins, AntiVerminser, AntivirusGolden, A

Vista Professional Support Software Raid 5?
shanenin replied to shanenin's topic in Windows 10, 8, 7, Vista, and XP
The huge negative of hardware raid is a recovery from a motherboard(raid contoller) that goes bad. The only way you can recover your data is to have the same controller as a replacement. With software raid that is not an issue. -
$25 is barely worth your time. If I worked all day for $25 would feel used and stressed out. My thought is if you are doing purely to help them out, just because you like them, then don't charge anything. If you are doing it as a part time income, I would tell here $20/hour. That is low, but at least worth your time. Any shop in town will charge 50-100/hour(I only charge $50 myself, I am on the low end)

The tail command is not nessasary to mount and view the drive. Iccaros was showing you a way to view what is happening, and if it fails to mount you would get extra info to show you what caused the failure.

My computer started smoking a bit after installing them, but it is getting old. I am not going to worry to much about it.

Hmm. I am not seeing what I thought I might have. If you could, try this. If the drive you need to read is plugged in your usb, remove it. Then plug it in, wait about 30 seconds then try this command. Post the output sudo tail /var/log/messages

Need Help With Bandwidth Problem

i also tend to recommend format and reinstall. It is such a clean good way of doing things. If you feel like investigating more, install an outgoing firewall. It should detect processes trying to send stuff out. You may then be able to pinpoint the offending bit of malware. -
could you post the output of the following command cat /etc/fstab also post the output of this command dmesg | grep sda

Their should be native drivers for that chipset. You shouldn't/can't install the .exe drivers. Are you having any problems that lead you to believe it is not working correctly?

I think that was smart of you to take the time to learn how to use iptables rules. I was never patient enough to learn. I have no advice to give. As to cleaning up firestarter. First use the following command to remove all the symlinks sudo update-rc.d -f firestarter remove now lets remove the script from the directory /etc/init.d sudo rm /etc/init.d/firestarter then use apt-get or synaptic to uninstall firestarter

Not yet. I am going to install it with vmware. edit added// I just got vmware installed.
