  1. It's finally coming to fruition, Laser processor chips! Intel announced it has successfully designed computer chips that combine lasers and metal wires, into silicon based chips that can move data at "Light speeds". Thousands of tiny lasers on these chips will make ultr-fast computing possible and very cheap in the next decade. Moore's law of doubling processor speeds every 2 years, which has been in serious decline recently, will now easily be realized again with this technology. Traditional data speed bottlenecks will disappear and home computers will soon rival the SuperComputers of today,

    New To Me

Cause you've hotlinked the image at ImageShack instead of uploading it to our server. (make sense..? ) If you have the image on your puter also you can add it as an attachment by browsing to it from the reply window and add it that way so it will look like these others. I made one for my sig image for now, just to see what it looks like.
  3. I want the TOP one please...oh, and maybe the bottom one too. Never know, I could get the Munchies with all that Beer on hand
  4. Hey Bryan Yah, we ALL get that way sometimes dude...I disappear for a few months now and then myself when I get ultra-bored of being on my computer. It's not that I get bored with my online friends, it's just that I waste so much time doing...well...nothing sometimes. I don't surf either, I go to a few favorite sites like APOD (Astronomy Pix Of the Day) and some hardware review and news sites, my forums and thats about it for me too. Allot of us are like that. Anyway, no better time to travel than when you're at your age. I used to make about 3 major trips a year when I was back then, either
  5. Could also be file system corruption and not physical disk problems. Many times when the CPU runs full like that it's malware like TT states, but the disk errors could be caused by the file system being corrupted...which also could be virally related. Open the run box and type "chkdsk X: /f /r" without quotes and hit enter (X: = Change "X" to drive letter of OS partition). Your machine will need a restart, will run checkdisk and fix any errors (/f) and recover any readable data from bad sectors (/r) if found.
  6. I think you should let Ghost make the disks and then it'll shut up....plus you'll have more options if it comes down to needing a reinstall someday. Good thing you've listened to us over the years and ordered the OS and Drivers CD's Liz!!! It's ALWAYS best to have the OS disk rather then just recovery disks, no matter what those idjits at Dell say. Personally, I would rather do a fresh clean reinstall than a recovery anyday, rebuild the file system and everything is nice and clean again....ahhhh. I agree with TT on not removing Ghost from the system, we don't really know how deep it's tied int
  7. I'd actually do it the other way round myself, activate WMP9 and then d'load 10....just in case ya know. Knowing MS, they just may want to see an activated copy of WMP9 before they let you do an upgrade to WMP10, but I really don't think it should make a difference either way.
  8. Marty Have him check to male sure the OE executable is in the proper place first. Will be in Program Files - Outlook Express folder and looks like an envelope with 2 blue arrows swooping around it (if the icon is intact that is) and named msimn.exe. If he can find it have him dble click that before we go reinstalling OE as a reinstall may lose any saved mail he has. If it's not in that folder have him do a search with advanced options for msimn.exe. Set advanced search options to search hidden files & folders ans system folders too.
  9. Well, I see they haven't posted back for some time here. It would be good to know if they did as asked or are still having issues, but....oh well, we tried.

    Papa Drew

Hey Papa Glad to be able to help as I can, I hope Topher got that Home Page issue solved, I haven't heard any more about it yet so I hope that's good news. If you ever need help with the forum end of things, I'll be glad to help there as well, I do know a thing or 3 about this stuff Keep up the good work over there!
  11. Yes, it doesn't require the computer at all JDoors. There is no program installed on the machine for this service, it works strictly thru a dedicated VoIP modem and I believe there is actually a firewall on it also but that it's only accessible by a tech with a special code. Basic firewall I would guess, just because it still is Internet technology and can be "seen" by other modems and servers out there. I haven't looked into it yet. My landline is $37.00 a month and I don't really use Long Distance at all. Do these packages have carry-overs for unused minutes? My connection is exceptionally r

COOL!!! Happy Grampa-ing Bearskin, cute lil buggers eh
  13. Hiya Marty Rugby has been big here for quite some time, like around 140 plus years or so. In fact, our Canadian Football League (CFL), which is the oldest football league in the world, was originally a Rugby league. It started changing rules and other things to try to make a more "Canadian"game of it, and the North American style of football was born. Yes folks, American Football was started in Canada.....loooonnnggggg before the NFL was even thought of. The first game here was in 1861 at the Univ. of Toronto, and the 1st Grey Cup Championship game was played in 1909, so this is the 97th year
  14. They are the WORST....I hate HP for the crud they load onto peoples boxes! Back when I was doing HJT logs it was a disaster whenever someone with an HP box posted a log....chock full of useless HP proprietary garbage apps. Seriously...it was "HP-This" & "HP-That" all over the startups list and hardly any room left for the really needed stuff to run in memory. Oh well....GREAT to have you back Liz!!!! Now, I'm just gonna ask you to wear this diaper for the first little while please....you haven't run AMOK for some time now and I don't want to mess up the floors. Now, all we need to do is f

    Remember 9/11

Hi Today is the 5th anniversary of the attacks of 9/11, and I wish to pay my respects to those Brother and Sister Firefighters who lost their lives that day, and all the other Emergency Service people and the thousands of Civilians who also perished on that day. Every day Firefighters lay their lives on the line, all in the efforts of helping everyday people during the worst times they can face, and we all say that "it's just our job". Not many people can say that their family members say goodbye to them before they go to work, and silently pray that they can make it home safely that day to s
  16. I don't use screensavers either, but I do constantly change my desktop image. I have thousands of images I've converted to my desktop resolution and about 20 different catagories of images. Space - Hubble shots (my fave), Animals - Wild Nature, Landscapes, Cars, Pets, Tech, Microscopic imagery, Microscopic Crystalization....etc. Some of my favorites are super-microscopic images of some processor chips, they are really colorful and very intricate. Plus many manufacturers have very tiny images implanted into them, like aircraft, playboy bunny head, swords...really cool. Here's a couple of sample
  17. Good News Marty! Well....not the "Bag" part, but good to see you on the mend old friend! (hey...that rhymes) Still waiting to hear from you about your Edmonton trip. Just let me know when you get any more info on it, if I can find a way to get there when you're there, I will.
  18. He got tagged a few times by snakes Marty, but he always had quick access to the nearest treatment center by helicopter whenever he did that. I watched a show that showed him get bit in the face, I can't remember what type of snake it was but he was in the hospital within 20 minutes. This time there just wasn't any hope no matter how close he was to a hospital. Just bad luck that he took a poisonous stinger directly to the heart, not much chance of survival even if you were at the hospital when it happened this time.
  19. And there'll be none of that allowed here.....none!
  20. You shouldn't have to install ME first, just insert the ME CD at the point where the XP install asks to insert a previous OS CD or key. You also can just type in the ME product code at that point and everything should continue.
  21. The Asus P5ND2 and P5N32 also state just P4 as well, but the Motherboard.org site has successfully installed and run the X6800 on the boards without issue, so it seems the chipset may have support for the Intel Core 2 chips even tho it's not stated in their specs. I'm not sure about the P5AD2 tho...so don't quote me on it, all I'm saying is that it may be possible I just haven't found anything about your specific board yet. EDIT - Your chipset is the Intel 925XE Express ICH6R and does not support the Core2 chips it seems. The others I mentioned above use the nForce4 SLI chipset that seems to p
  22. MotherBoards.org has always been one of my favorite review sites bearskin! Another good one you should check out is AnandTech, excellent reviews and these guys go to the wall with their testing of things. Sometimes it's wayyy too technical for most but in the end you can trust their conclusions because they do go so deep into it.
  23. Not a problem, we understand that completely. A good writeup will take time anyway so it's not like you need to do it in an hour or 2. My Sys Restore tutorial has been in the works for months, total working time including research has been about 12-15 hrs or so and it's nowhere near ready to print yet. I probably have well over 30 pages of info so far, and I need to trim that down to a page or two.... I'm still working out the formatting of the post so that it will be fairly linear and easily understood by anyone who needs the info. It's a very complex subject that most people don't have a clu
  24. Hi aligom Thx for posting the log here. I don't think there is anyone around at the moment to look at the log for you, but I have notified them that a new log is here so they'll look at it as soon as they come back in. Sometimes it can take a few days to get everything cleaned out properly, so stick with it when the experts ask you to do things and post new logs. Good Luck!
  25. I would be more than happy to post a tutorial from you into the BTKB if it meets our requirements. If you want to take some time and put together a tutorial designed to teach members how to recognize a good PSU from a (possibly) bad one, explain terminology and feature differences they may run into, different types and the other things I've mentioned before, I would be more than willing to post it permanently into the KB and give you edit rights for future upgradings to the post as may be needed. A list of your Brand recommendations would also be welcomed at the end of the tutorial, or you cou
