  1. I believe the reason your computer speedily access http://www.msn.com and very slowly accesses www.msn.com is because of something called the URL searchhook. What this does is it takes the domain name (http://www.msn.com) and turns it into its IP address. I believe that www.msn.com first needs to be turned into http://www.msn.com before it can we translated into its IP address, so the more work for the URL Searchhook causes more time to be lost. Perhaps, i'm not too sure about this...

  3. Actually, one of the premiums for SBC yahoo DSL is eTrust AV. I use it, and i must say i am thoroughly satisfied. Running it in conjunction with ZoneAlarm, I haven't had any spyware/virus/trojan/worm trouble for a long time now....
  4. Well, i'm going to high school in september, but when i go to college, i don't plan to do any type of CS or comp. engineering major. I plan to do some other type of engineering, maybe med or dental school if I think i can do it .
  5. Ewido is a pretty good antispyware remover. Unfortunately, you need to pay to unlock most of its features, but the free version does include a spyware scanner. It is used often to fix really bad hijackthis logs....
  6. I was trying to use an old 3drage All in Wonder card, but i found out it doesn't work with KnoppMyth. I was planning on getting an AverTV card once it worked....

    Maybe I should do that...There are a bunch of programs that i can't uninstall even though there files contain nothing, and probably useless junk on my machine as well....hmmm.... As for the amount of cds, perhaps you should consider buying a DVD burner, those are great!

Well, i'm pretty good with hardware (at least better with hardware than software), but as for distros, i'm totally clueless <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Once you've determined that your laptop will run Linux I suggest that you give one of the rpm based distros a try. Ubuntu, Mandriva or Fedora are easy to install and configure. The websites for these distros have a lot of support documentation; I suggest that you read up on how to install Linux, configuration, terminology, file systems. So my dad said to return it, or fill out the $50 rebate (if i thought i could do it). We are going to return it ). As for my laptop, well, i still have hope for that .

  15. yeah, my KnoppMyth computer isn't doing what i want it to do, and now even my Ubuntu laptop can't compile the drivers for the network card....I'm willing to do it, it just seems anytime i try to fix the problem it never works .
