  1. Recheck the setup on #3. What is the hardware on #3? Have you checked the wireless adapter on #3?
  2. I think it would be funny to walk by the Beano section.
  3. I have dealt with large cottonmouths before, but never that size. If that guy is around 5'6" that snake would appear to be about 8' long. If it is true I'm glad I didn't run into it while laying pipe through some of the swamps and canals down south. They can get real aggressive when you stir up their nesting areas.
  4. Are you booting into the Safe Mode Administrator account?
  5. All I need to do is get a DVD drive, better video card and larger hard drive to run Vista. I had already planned on the needed hardware for my XP install. I may do away with my 98SE drive, bump the memory and triple boot XP, Vista and some 'nix system.
  6. You shouldn't have a problem. Tell them it is the first time that the OS has been reinstalled.
  7. I have had that same issue with many proprietary computers. That is why I always attempt to retrieve the key used with Majic Jelly Bean before reinstalling. If you use the key on the sticker or the one listed in use and have problems call the phone number in the activation box.
  8. Someone from the IP address 211.199.139.35 is sending phony emails that have yourself listed as the sender with a subject line containing just numbers. I made a thread about this in Security Alerts yesterday. The email had a 1KB html tag within it. I assume when opened it gets reported back that the email address is real and active. This could leave you open to more spam or worse.
  9. I right clicked on it then selected properties to see what was contained in the email. I never open any emails if they are suspicious (as in this case), forwarded, have an attachment or are from an unknown source. I always scan with my anti-virus and use properties to check them. Panda will strip viruses and Trojans from emails as they arrive in my Inbox. It also warns me if an email contains one of these small "bots" that wish to send a confirmation back. Not many anti-virus programs will warn of this tactic.
  10. You weren't hacked and your email is still secure as long as you didn't open the email. It was a computer generated email that sent a small bot that when opened sends a response back letting the spammer know that the account is real and active. This will add that address to a spammer list.
  11. Have you disabled the firewalls and tried? Are you using Norton Intenet Security (NIS)?
  12. I don't know what it's motive was. I looked at it through properties and didn't open it. Usually something like this automatically sets a cookie that reports back to the sender to let them know the email that received it is active. They then include your address on their list or sell it for sending further spam or worse to that address.
  13. I think you may want to find the disk. Installing SP2 should have been done quite awhile ago. It may fix the problem or cause more problems. Without the XP CD you won't be able to repair your install if something goes wrong.
  14. If just one workstation have you tried using a password protected screensaver set to the required time of inactivity?
  15. I received and email this morning that the sender was me and the subject contained just a number. This was also reported by a user at WindowsBBS. This email contains a 1KB html tag from IP 211.169.139.35 which Sam Spade gave me a warning that it was aborting my search. The actual sending address was a jumble of letters at sumindmob dot com. I assume that the file sent would report back that your address is real and active.
  16. Is there a space anywhere in the printer name? If so you need to remove the space in the name on the computer that it is connected to. Open Printer then Properties/Sharing and remove the space in the share name. Also see if anything here helps. Share Your Printer Over a Home Network Using Windows XP
  17. It could be possible. Maybe they are sealed within the lid. In that case you would have to buy the complete lid/screen.
  18. I used to collect snakes when I was young. I would always know when my mother went into my room. Neighbors a mile away could hear the screams and yelling. hehe
  19. I don't know. I'm happy with the speed of my single EIDE hard drive as it is.
  20. I believe that the RAID setup just won't "see" the rest of the space on the larger drive. You would essentially have a 320GB (2x160GB) RAID setup.
  21. Have you tried removing the monitor in Device Manager then rebooting to see if XP reloads the previous monitor drivers?
  22. I've got to buy 3 XP Pro OEM versions so I can upgrade all of the computers I built for the kids and myself. From what I understand Home support ends 2 years after Vista is released. I have Home on mine and my niece's. My great-niece is still using 98SE on her PC which is going to get the hardware upgraded. I will build a new PC for my self next year.
