OK here is the problem. '99 'Paq Presario 5700T 400mHz processor 64mb Ram 12.5 GB HDD LG 16X DVD ROM Tried to install '98. Installed fine no mouse driver, no graphics color(only 16). Wiping HDD to go with the copy of ME I have. How can I remove the\some scratches from the 2 Recovery CDs. No DiskDR, or anything like that. There are a few zip files on the Recovery CDs that do not copy. Tried to copy to MY HDD to then burn to new cd. Narrowed problem to about 6 zip files accross both CDs. Machine will not install OS. When these files come to copy sys hangs. Even tried to unzip these files on my

In the bios make cd rom boot first. If fdisk/format has been done, you could remove the floppy then reboot. I had problems with making bootdisk last night, possible problem with the floppy I tried to use. M

Thing to do is to find what happened so it can be prevented in the future. Here are some utilities from a good site. I can't comment on how good any of these are. They are shareware or freeware so no money lost. M

Basic things you would want on your machine as soon as it is back up and running. Somethings for me would not be for you. IM, P2P programs and such. But basiclly (sp) that is what you want. It took me about three (well alot more that that, I'm stubborn) installs before I did a fresh install with just my esentials, then burned image to cd and a back up to a second physical HDD. Now I load "crap" after that. Like Joe friday said: Just the Facts... M

I use the "back Up" util in xp pro. Sofar it work ok, make doubles of folders if I don't pay attention. Also I have this backing to a second HDD, just incase some happens to the drive itself. Have antivirus looking into backup, compressed, and sys restore. That paranoid security thing. This back up util can run when any file is changed, as most other prog can be configured to do this. Dailey, Incremental, Differential back up. Can't explain these in detail at present, fog on the brain. What OS are you running. M
