  1. So this is what the Mac room looks like.... Hey guys, I have a business client who runs mac os x. There are about 8 macs here. We are switching their mail hosting, I want to be sure we do not lose any mail they have on their machines. I am backing up: username/library/mail and com.aple.mail.plist and com.aple.addressbook.plist and username/library/App support/addressbook Is there anything else I should backup? I will be changing the in/out servers on each machine so I believe it will keep all emails and addresses. Trying to cover my butt. This should take place tomorrow am. M
  2. WOW! http://www.aimhawaii808.net/index.html M
  3. I have multiple email accounts, gmail, yahoo, email.com, hotmail, one for a family members site I built and my personal one with the ISP where I work. I am intersted in other email sites. The good the bad and the ugly. Size and features available. M
  4. In SW Louisiana Bellsouth is the major player. Last I checked they have no naked packages. You need $80 of crap features to get DSL. Many people pay their phone bill of $100+ just to have DSL, while making most all their calls with cell phones.
  5. Weatherman says cool front behind the line of storms....I guess he is right 2* drop in temp is cooler. Kinda want a little more cold to kill the mosquitoes. M
  6. Got some pretty nasty weather this morning and got more coming. Wanted to check on tg, handplane, and anyothers down in this area. No damage to my place as of yet, just a mess of things that were laying around. Cleaned my yard good, sorry to the neighbor though. LOL Some tornados / rain / high winds. Mike
  7. I smelled freah baked cookies with that post. LOL
  8. Chappy I am not certian about the connection log, but there is a security log. Liz, has your computer or firewall software had an up date since you can't watch the videos? I have seen some updates cause people to run in circles trying to figure out what happened. Also what model router do you have? It should have a sticker under the router with the model number. M
  9. There may be an IP Address conflict with your modem and router. Most belkins are 192.168.2.1 to get to the web interface. You can google your modem brand to find the IP for it's web interface. M
  10. Also check to see if it is on some sites or all. At times a site may be heavily loaded and will drop. If you are using a router the router may need to be reconfigured correctly. If it is your router your ISP may have a charge to come out. M
  11. Hey folks, I am looking for a ping utility that logs the resuls. Time of each ping, time of drops etc... I have PingLog but want more info than it is giving. M
  12. I have a multisheet workbook. I want SheetA to have a listing of info from SheetB. I want this to be sorted so as info with _, __, ___, or zz to not appear in SheetA. I will be referencing 3 columns in SheetB, ColI, ColA, and ColJ. Each column has 200+ entries. If anyone has a link to a good Access Database Tutorial (free) please post. Access is actually what I need to learn, but need the aboverequest untill I earn Access. M
  13. is putting the hard drive from working machine into second hand machine as a slave an option? this would be easiest. Second hand machine gets a fresh install then you have 2 drives. M
  14. Usually a "stop by with a beer" will pay off bigger later. If you client knows you are there for him he will pay a "finders" fee of sorts. If you keep a rough track of how much you give out free to who, you can justify charging them a lil extra. I find that the free phone support, pays off in the end. Good Luck, you have the best tech support here. Just don't tell your clients, then they will join and your business will drop. lol I agree completely with building a customer base by being inexpensive and giving a way some service for free. That has been what I have been doing: free data backup
  15. Need a sofa for the guy who is going nuts trying to figure out why his machine craps out while downloading from kazaa, listening to MusicMatch, when he is editing his kids school pic into a autoplay dvd, and chating on G4. DOH had to throw that in.....lol. M
  16. Power - Get an APC on eBay then pull the battery, extend the battery wires, connect to a 12v deep cycle marine battery. I wouldn't run pc on this for long as a pc is a power hog when talking batteries. But also gotta concider the 911 issue. I work for a small WISP in SW Louisiana and we concidered VoIP. Only cost effective for "rural" business, around here everything is rural. You can get some of the best VoIP server software free. Anyway.....only those with a lot of money will make inroads with VoIP, then the cost per customer will drop and smaller ISP's will be able to afford to provide it f

  19. AVG is free as in free not free trial. It can scan everyday and check for updates everyday also. I have it on the machines at work and suggest it to clients who have nothing.
  20. Got my brother in laws work laptop here. Here is having problems when XP Home would boot it would pass the Windows splash screen then hang. A tech where here just purchased a desktop told him it was the LCD ribbon cable, they could change it for $300. I found this same laptop on the net for a little more than $300. I booted to Safe Mode ran like this for an hour no problem. F8 on reboot then selected Last known good config. Q. How do I find what changed or didn't when doing this. I did a *.* for everything modified today. Wanting to narrow down the area that I need to focus on. M
  21. Mike: Is it Abilon, the one Jeff told us about awhile back? If it is, here is a D/L from PC World: PC World - Abilon I still have it, and like it a lot. Barb /me Gives you a big smouch....thanks that is it.
