  1. I'm not sure why some active, low-count threads are being closed. Today: The Matrix, Music From The Motion Picture What an ICONIC movie that was. I remember the first time I saw what has become known as, because of its extensive use in The Matrix, "bullet time." Oddly, it was in a GAP commercial. I was blown away by that one, short use of the technique I actually recorded the commercial just so I could play it back to try and figure out how they did it (I couldn't). Then out comes The Matrix and practically the WHOLE MOVIE is done in bullet time. Whoa! (To coin a phrase.)
  2. Oops. I probably would've fallen for it. Sometimes my BT cookie gets lost in the shuffle and I do have to log in, so that wouldn't raise any alarms. Good to know.
  3. We're getting scary weather. It's not BAD weather, just a light rain, but it's a FALL RAIN. It feels like one anyway. Not a good sign!
  4. I got to see him live too. He'd start to play a song and I'd practically scream like a school girl, "Oh man! That's (fill in the name of a song)!" A guy nearby said, "You guys are real fans, huh?" OK, that was a little embarrassing. Rings is one of my personal favorites, but he says that though he realizes it's a fan favorite, he's not particularly fond of it. That was a bit disappointing. I'll never forget one of the album liner notes where he says he knows his voice isn't all that great, in fact, it sounds like, "Goose farts on a foggy afternoon." Close, very close.
  5. I'm feeling a little bit Country / Folksy so: Leo Kottke (Man, can he play the guitar or what?) Emmylou Harris (What a voice!)
  6. Yeah, I'm thinking window panes, but ya never know. I won't forget one of the first home videos I saw of a tornado approaching a house. They're taking the video out through a HUGE plate-glass window as the tornado heads straight for them! As everthing is getting destroyed they FINALLY decide it's time to get in the basement and, with the camera still running, you see them heading down the stairs. As they go down the stairs they turn the camera upwards and ... the house is GONE. Whew! Another beautiful day here; seasonable, warm, sunny.
  7. I've seen those probes used in cooking shows, makes a LOT of sense nowadays. Six bucks makes it a no-brainer. I should get one for my buddy who overcooks everything just to be on the safe side. Naw, even when cooked to the absolutely correct temperature, he'd cook it "just a bit longer" to be on the safe side. Whoa, with those prices for chicken and steak, are you SURE you didn't walk into some kind of time warp? Re: fish. Had baked scrod for lunch at work, one of their best dishes IMO. Just had a couple of warm, soft, breadsticks on the side, nothing else looked good. Got home &
  8. Sound similar to the wind damage 'round here. However, some reports say a tornado touched down in a town not previously mentioned, and THAT town was too close for comfort to where I was at the time. Still far enough away that the effects from it were non-existant locally, but close enough that I HAVE been there. One report from a meteorologist said the damage was consistant with a micro-burst, not a tornado. Some buildings damaged, but nothing that wouldn't be expected from a very severe storm rather than a tornado. Still, I would have felt like such a dork if I had been the only one whisked
  9. I'd never heard of that soup so as I browsed I skipped that one. Guess I should check to see if it includes the story behind it. I LOVE pasta/meat/veggie/garlic/oil (or butter) dishes! I make it fairly often because it lends itself to "whatever's on hand."
  10. Guess we'll be seeing a lot less of you around here, huh? Everyone I know with X-box online gets addicted. Good luck with that!
  11. Yeah, I grew up in the MidWest and wouldn't have thought about supply lines being closer to the surface and running through the attic. Now I'm surprised your "cold" water's THAT cool. ----- We had severe storms last night that caused damage, mostly South of where I was. However, one of the people I was with has been within spittin' distance of a tornado before and it was bizarre to watch the panic set in. She's a very strong person under most circumstances, but once the adreniline or emotions kick in, all bets are off. There was a tornado "warning" in effect for the area (someone, somewhere,
  12. I'm not a chef but enjoy reading your food posts. I'm as disappointed as anyone that there aren't a WHOLE lot more contributions! (Where's the "drool" smiley?) On the topic of food, someone forwarded a cookbook to me in PDF format filled with all the "secrets" recipes (likely culled from the 'net). I never thought of making my own 3 Musketeers bars, but the Red Lobster Stuffed Mushrooms sounded yummy! cookbook.pdf
  13. As long as we're at it (I think I recounted this before so I'll make it short): Had to replace the heater core on the Mustang. On my previous car you took out the glove box (a few screws), the core cover (few more screws) and replaced the core. On the Mustang you had to remove the steering column, the windshield, then the entire dashboard. THEN remove the core cover and replace the heater core. The book says it's an eight hour job. It took me eight hours (and I cheated; I only dropped the column "just enough," and didn't remove the windshield at all).

    Your torque curve, doesn't! Amazing.
  15. Kind of a dancy, trancy, tecno-y two-disc compilation. If you know any of them it'd be these: Daft Punk: Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger Basement Jaxx: Where's Your Head At? Gorillaz: 19-2000 Paul Oakenfold (remix): Days Go By
  16. Yikes. "Cold" water over ninety degrees? I HOPE your hot & cold lines are crossed! They also make fun of L.A. weathermen: "Beautiful today." "Another beautiful day." " ... another beautiful day." "Does anybody actually listen any more?" Here, "seasonable." Warm, Sunny, picture perfect. (Too warm FOR ME, but everybody else seems to like it.)
  17. A long line of severe thunderstorms passed by just South of here. At work, it was raining, driving home, it was RAINING. Got home, no rain, dry as a bone. Look South and the sky was dark and often lit with lightening, look directly overhead and there were huge white clouds, look North and ... nothin' but Blue Skies. We could use the rain though.
  18. I arrived at today's selection in an odd way: I was reading a car magazine and they had a feature on "speed." One vehicle they covered was ... the REO Speedwagon. I vaguely remember there being a REO car company (Ransom E. Olds started it when he lost Oldsmobile), and maybe, somewhere among the cobwebs, I might have known there was an actual "Speedwagon," but I don't know if I ever put two and two together (my brain function MAY have been impaired back then ). So, in honor of THE REO Speedwagon : REO Speedwagon ! Roll With The Changes, Keep On Loving You, Take It On The Run, Can't F
  19. Just great. Prices are dropping, but since it's the beginning of the month I fill 'er up with Premium @ $4.19. Re: Ethanol. We've known for decades that we HAVE to wean ourselves off gasoline, yet when we finally start to do it, people complain 'cause it's expensive. Meh.
  20. Hey! I miss those fresh air vents! Ahh, ACTUAL, REAL, DIRECT, fresh air. Not some gerbil hiding behind a small grill on the dash blowing through a straw. BTW, my BIL and best friend both have had Mavericks. They were typical American cars for the day. You can knock 'em all day long if you like, but ... YOU ARE WORKING ON A 1972 MAVERICK. How many foriegn cars from that era do you see tooling around? Just yesterday I saw BOTH a Pinto AND a Vega. No Hondas or Toyotas from that decade in sight. They were fragile little things even when brand spanking new (they had other good qualities though).
  21. Man, it's practically unbelieveable that people are still leaving their kids in the car ... AT ALL ... , but especially when it's unbearably hot. Such a completely preventable tragedy. On the other hand, people still drive stinkin' drunk, still speed, ignore stop signs and lights, don't wear seat belts, and on and on. Must be human nature to become accustomed to then forget about everyday dangers. That hot weather's arriving here over the next few days with predictions of severe storms. Some went close by last night, 60+ mph winds did some damage, but nothing here, no rain, no winds, slept l
  22. There was a recent case around here: A utility proposed building a "peaker" power plant that'd only run when necessary. It was going to be built out in the "country," among corn fields, miles from any towns or cities. They had a design that "disguised" the plant to look like a grouping of farm buildings (IMO it was quite handsome). Nope. Shot down. "Too noisy!" "Too ugly!" "Too much pollution!" Noisy? What, it'd disturb the crows or something? Ugly? It looked like FARM BUILDINGS, there are already FARM BUILDINGS in the area! Pollution? It was gas fired, there's nothing currently feasible tha

    Bug Bites,

I'm with ya (though I can't quite go so far as saying I wish there were NO bugs, what would the wittle birdies eat?). I think I posted here about my Nephew's bug bite but I'm not reading it all again so, since I visited with them last night the subject came up and I was reminded he also had that swollen, hot, bug bite thingy that's going around this year (and that I've never in all my 53 years had heard of before). He had it treated and the docs had NO explanation other than "it's some kind of staph infection" and a round of anti-biotics (but then, doctors prescribe anti-biotics for viral inf
