  1. I know this isn't the kind of information you're seeking but hey, my opinion counts for something: I still haven't made the transition to an OS that requires phoning home for "permission" to use it. Still ticks me off, even after all these years of OS's requiring it. From everything I know about Vista, "upgrading" to it is NO DIFFERENT than any previous Windows upgrades. I don't know why people no longer expect or tolerate the necessary steps when moving to a new OS (new drivers for old hardware, new updates for old software, increased demand on hardware, etc.), but that seems to be the norm,
  2. I forget where I saw it (What? Me? Forget?) but that "reserve" thing is strictly an American thing. Apparently the rest of the world would like to know exactly how much fuel is left. No, I don't think it's because we need to idiot-proof cars for an ignorant populice, though I can understand why one might come to that conclusion (and it does help those who cannot fathom the notion of filling up BEFORE you run out). I think it's more because in the U.S. our "average" trip by automobile is SO MUCH longer than other countries. A lot of people elsewhere have no comprehension whatsoever of the dist
  3. Good point, IF it's never used.
  4. A couple of new aquisitions: Coldplay, Viva La Vida, or, Death And All His Friends And: Les Paul & Friends, American Made, American Played The Les Paul album has almost two dozen guest artists; Sting, Joss Stone, Kenny Wayne Shepard, Edgar Winter, Noah Hunt, Sam Cooke, Eric Clapton, Peter Frampton, Alsou, Billy Gibbons, Neal Schon, Beth Hart, Jeff Beck, Richie Sambora, Buddy Guy, Keith Richards, Rick Derringer, Johnny Rzeznik, Steve Miller, Joe Perry, Mich Hucknall & Keny Olson.
  5. They chose to create a theoretical verison of the more powerful later bomb just to complicate things. The "weaker" (uh-hem) bomb that would have been easier to replicate would, of course, still cause untold damage if someone were to create an actual bomb. Saying "it worked well" is misleading since it had to be created using vast resources, tested theoretically, tested again after one was created, and only then did it work, and that was never guaranteed. People do create cars of all kinds all the time, but it's extrememly difficult to create one that meets thousands of specific standards. A c
  6. Don't unbuckle that seat belt just yet!
  7. Theoretically: They didn't build it, therefore they don't know if it would actually work (though the design was successfully tested to see if it would, theoretically, work), and they didn't have plutonium nor did they make any attempt to produce or aquire it. It's easy enough to make a car, throw a bunch of parts together, but the entire process and the ability to make one that meets all the necessary design goals? Not easy.
  8. Not what I said. Their opinions on the economic crisis are irrelevant as long as it's just another round of America bashing. If they have something useful or pertinent to say, let's hear it. If it's just more "America sucks," it IS irrelevant. Funny how the world ignored the shipments of yellowcake uranium we took out of Iraq around a month ago. I don't know how there could be yellow cake uranium in Iraq if there were no nuclear power plants to use it. Maybe they use it for paperweights or something. Or maybe we snuck it in there just to take it back out. Or how the world forgot the chemical
  9. I loved that game as a kid. I remember the prommisory notes, but I don't remember how they worked. Probably the biggest word I knew as a kid. Nope, I memorized: pnuemonaltramicroscopicsilicovilcanocaniosis. Not the spelling though ... Just read somewhere that was the largest word (at the time) so I thought I'd memorize it to lord it over any of my peers who thought supercalifragilistiexpialodocios was the largest word (aside from the fact that it's NOT a word at all).

    Woke Up To This

Not ready? I can't wait! But it might get up to 80 degrees today. What the heck?
  12. We're at war. How's the economy?
  13. There are other factors in that growth, however. Like the enormous number of "new" workers in the work force, that is, women and children. They had been only a small factor before. And if you count tanks and planes as "production" then yes, GDP skyrockets, but tanks and planes do not improve anyone's standard of living. Then there's the rationing; No meat. No metals. No rubber. No gasoline. No plastics (remember how 'valuable' nylons were to civilians?). Why would a politician purposely subject the population to shortages across the board and force home makers and children into the workforce?
  14. There's a famous quote from the movie Wall Street, "Greed, for lack of a better word, is good." I HATE that quote! Especially as it applies to Wall Street. Yeah, humans HAVE to have some greed for survival (ya gotta stock up some nuts & berries or you'll starve when times are tough), but greed that harms others is NOT good. Naive, maybe, but that's the way I feel. I would NOT want to hear what other countries have to say about this or any other subject. The sport of America bashing is just a way to distract people from troubles at home, and it appears to work quite well. It means nothing
  15. Ha! What a thought, the "zero" dollar bill.
  16. Please post a warning when you're gonna talk about food: Get a drool napkin ready! EVERY SINGLE STYLE of bread you talked about sounds SO good. And fresh? Compared to store-bought? Cripes. Ooo, how about a nice, rich, dense bread with nuts? Can you do that?
  17. Same here. A flat grey-ish color (very easy on the eyes) with just a handfull of icons. The fun-factor of the PC has completly left me I guess. Hadn't thought it might be a lack of, well, interest. Could be. However, the reason I originally went minimalist is my OS, '98 SE. The less memory and resources I use for backgrounds, icons and the like the more I have to keep this ol' girl running. I have an entire folder on the HD filled with interesting wallpapers, I just can't afford the ~meg of memory they take up while displayed. Can't wait for the first person to tell me, "Windows '98? I was
  18. I agree; no one person, company, organization or political party is entirely to blame. Some are more responsible than others ... but ...
  19. Mine's still the same (from WAY back when) -- Entirely black with just My Computer and the Recycle Bin icons.
  20. America does not eliminate black leaders. That's hogwash. Republicans have been asking for regulation of Fannie May and Freddie Mac for ten years, Democrats crushed it because Fannie May and Freddie Mac are among their largest contributors (with, surprise, Obama recieving the most money) and because Democrats wanted to use the force of law to give loans to lower-income people who could not afford one, hence the crash when home prices droppped. So that's hogwash. Stock markets have been crashing throughout the world. America has had one of the lowest percentage drops of them all. America cras
  21. Or Washington should be crying ...
  22. With the way gas prices are this is true only as long as you wean her off the bottled wine and get her t'a drinkin' wine-in-a-box.
  23. You can buy brackets that can be clamped onto the exhaust pipe and attached to the vehicle's mounting points. They are easy to work with but expect a lot of rust to fall while you're working on them. Then you can work on the trust issues you have with your girlfriend. Though I expect the car to outlast the relationship.
  24. I've had a rough week, this was my "Friday" at work and I came home, collapsed on the couch and said, "Oh My God." So, Pink and Oh My God : That's the first time I've seen that performance ... err ... It might be a little TOO sexy! Playlist for a lazy Sunday afternoon (no particular theme, but a lot of techno in the middle): Pink, Try This Rabbit In The Moon, Floorida Robert Miles, Dreamland The Prodigy, Music For The Jilted Generation R.E.M., Automatic For The People
