  1. That's what you should say anyways, just to save time. Especially if you change the motherboard!
  2. You should be able to snag some deals easily if you just watch the bi-weekly sales. (such as: Corsair XMS 2x1GB is around $110 this week!)
  3. I've had a little trouble searching for a chipset fan (unless a VGA chipset fan would be usable for a motherboard chipset fan) Just typing that makes me say DOH! Of course it would work! I have one that will work for it, from a video card too! Breakthrough
  4. You don't have to pay! It's an option in Windows where you adjust screen resolution and such (display in control panel) When it recognizes your two monitors you select extend screen resolution (what you want since you want more space) then choose the 2nd screens location to the other (that way when you drag a box to the right of your 1st screen, it continues on the left of your 2nd or however else you have it set up). I wish I had the desk space to do that on my main computer, but I don't so
  5. Rebooting my computer today (which I do once every blue moon) to find a nice beeping message from the board telling me my chipset fan isn't working. Upon closer investigation with a multimeter, I found that the fan itself was bad, but the headers on the board were putting out current. Here's the question - should I get a replacement fan from ASUS (upon research this is a common problem) or should I go 3rd party for the replacement? Oh yeah, obviously I'm on here from a different PC since that one isn't coming on without a chipset fan
  6. Firmware won't make a difference - CD drives just die out. I've salvaged a few by putting a vaccum hose up to it (with the tray out) while blowing air in there, but it's most likely not going to fix it. It sounds like your laser is bad since you can still burn (the burner is a different laser than the reader)
  7. I was like, okay, where is this going? This isn't supposed to be a porn forum
  8. Didn't mean it personal - besides high-range systems only stay high range for about a year or so (ala my parent's $3000 gateway w/ a P3 933 and 128 MB RAM was once considered a high range PC) Nowadays, the computer I built should be high range until the new Socket comes out making 939's obsolete
  9. Looks like I'll be having a multi boot with XP, Vista, and Fedora Core 5!
  10. I'll just do GRUB on the MBR - hopefully this time it'll boot and I won't have a need to remove Linux. Well I'm headed to the beach, thanks!
  11. Okay, I'll keep that in mind. The simpler the better (and the defualt GRUB is the simpler!)
  12. Okay, I'm installing Fedora Core 5 when I get back from the beach Friday - so I figure I'd give this question time to stew. What is the best way to configure the bootloader so that I can have a multi boot system with Fedora and XP - that is easy to remove in case I need to? I've read that you can do so without messing with the MBR, by installing a tiny partition with the loader right before Windows (before the 1024 cylinder) Let me know so I can be running two OS's by next week!
  13. I'm 99% sure you have to have identical makes, models, and sizes for a Raid 0
  14. Nevermind, I just downloaded BitTorrent Dur, how else would you open a torrent file (and I'm supposed to be smart with computers!)
  15. what do i do with it (sorry new to torrent)
  16. Having a small problem. I try to download the DVD ISO and this keeps happening (with several different mirrors) Notice the percentage is Negative This is after 2 hours or so of downloading
  17. The good wiper program I'd recommend is removing the drive....voila! private data secure. Yeah, I'm being serious....I don't think I'd ever sell any of my PCs including any hard drives.
  18. Good plan - changed as of now! I dind't plan on it being this popular so...
  19. If you're referring to glass AGU fuses - auto parts stores DO carry them. Different companies use different fuse types - I think most American made are using blade fuses now, and some foregin (I know of Volvo for sure) use AGU fuses
  20. Update - I'm looking at downloading Fedora Core because of the extensive write up instructions from the folks at red hat and because it supports AMD 64 architecture
