Laptop Not Connecting To Internet--netgear Router
xxkbxx replied to murtu52's topic in Windows 10, 8, 7, Vista, and XP
Once "connected" run "ipconfig" and see if you are getting an IP. If this problem is only on the one computer, it makes me thing it's a security setting, such as MAC filtering that is not allowing the computer to join the network. One question, is your computer connected to the router, but not the internet? You can ping the router to see if it's connected to it. If that's it, then I'd call up Netgear and get the settings fixed -
Allright!

I 2nd AVG Free - it's not even dumbed down much from AVG Pro, the only major difference is that you can't run more than one scheduled virus scan a day
-
The drive with XP on it has already been partitioned (that's a required step for putting XP on it). You would need to partition the new drive for any operating system to make use of it (assuming it really is a completely new drive).

It'd be a lot easier to run a scan of that domain to see the names of all the website extensions hosted (giving all the answers)

thanks i didnt think of photo bucket does tiny pics do the same marty yeah - any of those sites (i personally use villagephotos.com)
-
You don't have to partition, and it wouldn't make sense since those drives are so small.

Use Master and Slave, not Cable Select

Yeah, but you gotta be REAL CAREFUL when messing around inside a power supply (but I'm sure you would have assumed that anyways)

No, because everyone around where I live either doesn't go to college, goes to Forsyth Tech, or aspires to go to UNC Chapel Hill. I don't see how anybody can be deadset on going to a certain college when they don't have a clue what they want to major in (in this case - UNC) I've got the grades for some pretty good schools, just not the money to spend on a school that I'd "like" to go to when there are cheaper schools that will be just fine. I'm on that border line where my family makes enough to not be able to receive financial aid, but not enough to write out $40,000+ checks every year

Do a broswe through MSConfig to see if there is something attempting to start up with your computer that shouldn't be

If DDR2 is anything like DDR you should be able to. (you can put ddr 400 in a lower speed, but it will only function at the max speed the board supports)

Getting Ready For The Rebirth Of My Pc.

I'm sure you'll get it thrusday/friday -
Here's the thing. Nature has an equalizer - you drink a bunch of beer, the next morning you'll be back to the water

Less history classes means same amount of classes - which means a double major (at NC State, you can double in electronic engineering and computer engineering by taking 2 more classes than normal) or milking the college experience by going for an MD.

WPA should be all you need then. That pdf document you linked earlier has some hub-bub in it that really shouldn't be used (e.g. disabling ssid broadcast, mac filtering) As B mentioned (and you apparently found out ), MAC filtering can be setup relatively easily. However, for security, if offers little value. It offers a lot of value for me because it prevents anyone around here from even seeing the network.

Our school only had a handful of AP classes (which is a pain, since they cater towards the lower level students and pretty much neglect the above average) but they are adding online distance learning ones next year. I'm taking AP Physics online (I'm still trying to figure out how we'll do science labs) and AP Calculus BC with an actual teacher nexter

I didn't study once this semester! That's what makes it even better

I'm not exactly worried about serious cracking of the network - just some average person with limited knowledge of networking (aka me) from messing with the network

I just found a real good website: http://www.infosecwriters.com/text_resourc...ksys_wrt54g.pdf It shows how to do all of what y'all have recommended so far! As of now, I disabled uPnP, set up WPA, and MAC Filtering! I'd say it's definitly a step up from SSID "linksys" with admin, admin logging in
-
How do I got about MAC Filtering? I assume that I get my MAC address for the computer on wireless and input it into the list of allowed addresses in the Linksys utility - would that be correct?
