    marty

Boy marty sounds like a horror story. I would just reformat and go. But you might check out Kelly's Corner for some of that. I think there is a Disable for the run as command on their. As for getting pass the Password stuff you can just get rid of all the passwords by getting rid of the administrators. Or you might create a new user with administrators access without a password and then go in and fix the other stuff. Have you tried Safe Mode? http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm Might try this for the password. http://home.eunet.no/~pnordahl/ntpasswd/

  2. On start up i keep getting the following message;

    Application Launcher

    Unable to load configuration

    OK

    Please help and advise.

Sounds like you uninstalled or deleted a program and the launcher is still trying to open it. What did you delete? When you uninstall a program you should always use either it's uninstaller or from Control Panel Add/Remove programs. So if you install it again and then uninstall it the correct way your problem will go away.

  3. I have the following message on start up:

The system DLL user 32.dll was relocated in memory. DLL c:/windows/system32/HHCTRL.OCX occupied. the vendor supplying the DLL should be contacted for a new DLL.

Help - what does it mean and how can it be fixed.

I am working off Windows XP with Office Student and Teachers Edition 2003

    Thanks

Have you deleted any files lately? If you can do a System Restore to a date before this happened you might get it back that way.

  4. I currently use Nero 6 SE and am wondering if I should upgrade to 7.

Is it worth the price or does it just add more copy protection crap?

    Thanks,

    Joe

I would guess if the new or extra features are something you need it would be worth the upgrade. But if you just copy disks and create your own you might just stick with what your using. Unless the new version copies more copy righted disks it isn't worth it. You would have to have a pretty good reason to copy copy righted disks in the first place. When new software comes out all the time it's better to just buy new than to have a copy of an old disk.

  5. Bobby:

Take a look here at Mozilla Forum. People having similiar problems with FF 2.0.02 and 2.0.03. Maybe a new profile will help.

    Thanx Bar5 !

Looks like what I'm experiencing. I'll check into my extensions and so on. Right now it's just a nuisance.... though I've pounded the keys a bit hard a few times  I'll keep Besttechie on IE6 for now and keep my Firefox tabs on less important 'stuff' until resolved.

2.0.0.1 works fine for me. Haven't tried 2.0.0.2 or .3

  6. My computer is continually getting Application Error pop up messages. The error reads:

"The instruction at "0x000000000" referenced memory at "0x00000000". The memory could not be "read". Click OK to terminate program."

    Any solution for this problem?

I'll greatly appreciate if someone can help me up with this problem.

Looks like you have a failing memory chip. Try going to Memtest86.com and downloading their tester, run it over night and see if you get errors.

  7. When trying to access a website that I have gone to many times before, I get this message:

You are not authorized to view this page

The Web server you are attempting to reach has a list of IP addresses that are not allowed to access the Web site, and the IP address of your browsing computer is on this list.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Please try the following:

Contact the Web site administrator if you believe you should be able to view this directory or page.

HTTP Error 403.6 - Forbidden: IP address of the client has been rejected.

    Internet Information Services (IIS)

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Technical Information (for support personnel)

Go to Microsoft Product Support Services and perform a title search for the words HTTP and 403.

Open IIS Help, which is accessible in IIS Manager (inetmgr), and search for topics titled About Security, Limiting Access by IP Address, IP Address Access Restrictions, and About Custom Error Messages

I searched for the code, and went to Microsoft's site to find a resolution. What they say is to find the Management Console, or some such thing, and something to do with IISS(?). I don't know, I just know I can't find what they want me to find to fix it.

Can someone tell me, in plain English, how to fix this? Like I said, I have been here many times before to make payments, and need to get in here again.

So did you do something at that site to get you kicked off? Try e-mailing the web site administrator and see.

  8. Alright well I've got an Intel Mobo and CPU in a spare computer I'm building. The CPU fan (Thermaltake) on it was extremely loud so I wondered if maybe I could take the Thermaltake heatsink and fan from my old AMD and set it in place of the Intel heatsink and fan. I realize I can't be sure if it's in the right place on the chip so I'm not sure if that will create issues. I tried booting up and looking at the Fan speed in the Bios the AMD fan ran about 4800 RPM and kept it around 70 C, the Intel fan however ran about 6500 and kept it around 85 C so I figure the AMD fan is better even though it's just sitting on the chip and not clamped down or anything. Is there anything that I should be worried about if maybe the heatsink isn't centered on the chip?

Not being clamped down it will come loose and then you will have problems. Heat sink and fans are pretty cheap.

  9. Here's the situation, I had a virus that would crash my computer about every 10 to 20 minutes. I obviously got tired of this, so I decided to do another complete system reboot. The first time through, I had no problems, everythung worked, everything was hooked up right, and bammo I'm on the internet in under a day. But THIS time, everything went fine up until the time I had to install my web browser. So, I put the disc in, I waited for it to load up, I agree to every little Terms of Condition thing, or whatever, and after that was a little check too see if I had everything needed to connect to the internet. It's all green up until it gets to the Network Adapter. Apparently it couldn't detect one. So, I did some stuff that I can't quite remember at the moment and whaddyaknow, it detected a Network Adapter, but THIS time, it said it was corrupt. So, I went out and bought a new one of the exact same type, still said it was corrupt. And there's the problem. Now when you try to help me out, don't use long computer terms. I'm not exactly the computer guy, so please, I would seriously appreciate it, and I mean that, I will bow down and praise your existence.

Long, pointless story short: My computer says my new, exact same type of Network Adapter is corrupt, and I need to get it...Un-corrupt I guess.

Perhaps you need to be sure your Disk is clean before installing. Might be a problem with the disk you are installing and it gets to a point that is dirty when it is detecting the Network card. Have you asked the ISP if they had an answer? Might try there web site for an updated version of the software.

  10. I got a call from somebody who has not used their computer with the internet for about one year. It was an XP computer with 128mb of memory. It was running so slow, no web pages could be loaded, they were timing out. The first thing I did was to add 256mb of memory. I rebooted and soon the computer was up to 335mb of memory usage with no programs running. I was trying to figure out what was using so much memory. According to msconfig and HJT their was not much of anything running at startup. One microsoft process system32\services.exe was using large amounts of memory and cpu cycles. I also noticed their were about three processes from panda titanium 2005 using over 100 mbs of memory. I'm not exactly sure what processes all belonged to panda. Since panda was expired, I recommended she removed it, and replace it with avg since it is much lighter on your system. After removal of panda and a reboot the computer was just using about 140mb of memory. Somehow panda was using almost 200mbs of memory. It seemed to be making the microsoft process services.exe act crazy, both in regards to memory use and cpu usage also. I don't think panda is normally that much of a hog, something must have been making it act abnormal.

Expired or not I would think it would search for updates.

  11. i was having a problem with xp professional telling me that i had a serious system error. it had something to do with my ip. so i though that it was the operating system that i had. i went to digilink computers and paid 25$ for a legal version of xp home and i reinstalled and registerd. after i put all of my programs on my computer i was playing age of empires 2 and the error came up and closed my game. every time it comes up it ends whatever im doing and it pops up everytime i do something. but i wont have any issues at system idle..... please help

    ip=Internet Provider

Are you trying to say your XP Pro was Illegal copy?

  12. okkkkkkkkk.

I'm working on an older computer

compaq presario 1998 or 1999 model

I have rebooted and tried just about every key to get to the bios....no way

I unplugged the keyboard and rebooted and it just says keyboard error.

I unhooked the hard drive and it said drive 0 not detected.

I unplugged the ploppy and it said floppy drive not present.

BUT....it still won't let me access the bios setup.

any one have any ideas other than junkng the compaq?

I would appreciate any and all input on this matter.

F1, F2, Del, F12, F10 or Ctrl and one of those.

  13. Here is my experience with one I tried. Downloaded it ran it, looked like it was going to do some real cleanup, so I ran the cleaner. Right after that my Win updates would not work. Did A RESTORE POINT AND FIXED THAT. so I thought maybe I better look at those entries and pick the ones that look safe. Ran it again and deleted about half the entries. Same thing messed up my Win Updates. So I did another restore and deleted the Reg cleaner.

So if you run one, be ware of what it can or can't do for you.

  14. Do you have a large amount of dust built up inside? I highly doubt heat was the issue. After the crash, would you system boot anymore?

If the Card game was new to you using it, I would think it was the game that caused the problem. How long were you using it before the crash? Might not have been the first time you used it but later after a second time it would most likely access the registry entry it made and then caused the crash. I have several games I let the grandkids play and after there done I remove them from my system. One reason is there is tons of ad ware and spy ware on them. Yes new software is sold with that trash on it.

  15. Its a small company in my city competitive pricing but theres a limit I can use per month approx 50 GB, and if you go over that limit its 10 per GB...So I don't want to risk it. Something free would be great.

I have Wild Blue Satellite service and my limit now is set at 1200 MB which is really a lot. The first month I downloaded like a mad man and hit my limit. 50GB on your service should never be a problem as long as you don't download like a maniac! If you think your even close, which I doubt you can do call your service and ask them where your at. Or ask them to provide you with a Bandwidth Meter. Wild Blue has one I check once a week.

  16. I want to building a server for my family. I have 4 people in my family(that is includeing me too). All of us use Itunes and all of us have Ipods. I want to building a server that can hold all of our docs., music, pics., and video. I want to be able to put all of that on it then have Itunes look at it so that the individual computers don't have the music and videos but itunes and see it and so the user the music. I'm thinking of buying a computer then buy a case and switching the cases so that I can have room for hard drives. I have a copy of xp pro(legal too) that I can put on the server. The most hard drives that will be in it is 4 maybe 5. Here is the list of what I'm thinking of having in the server:

    a dvd burner

    1 boot hard drive

    3 other hard drives

I'm not planning on having it all built at once. The biggest hard drive in it will be 500 gb. Can you help me out. Thanks

I would like another said, just buy External USB HDD's. I have a MY BOOK 160GB drive that was less than $100. If you buy a PC with say 6 USB ports that should SERVE you nicely? No Pun intended. Just assign each drive letter to each person in the family.
